Completely restored and renovated, this original Folly Bungalow features porches on three sides of the house with the kitchen and dining area opening onto the screened porch overlooking the river (soundtrack here should be playing "Summertime"). It's a wonderful place for family gatherings and entertaining friends. The beach is two short blocks away and the outdoor shower awaits your return. Charleston's beautiful and historic downtown is nearby as well as many other wonderful attractions. Folly Beach boasts a number of excellent restaurants near Center St so it's possible to spend a week down here without even leaving Folly Island if you choose. The house, set on a large landscaped lot, is in a quiet residential area so that you can truly get away from it all at the Folly Bungalow
Keywords: Beautifully crafted, nicely equipped and furnished house on the marsh of Folly River, two short blocks from the beach. This house was recently used for the filming of "Army Wives". The kitchen and adjoining dining area connecting to the riverside screened porch together make for an excellent space for family gatherings.
My family and I had a wonderful time here this past week. The house was even better than the pics on-line. It's open, bright and airy with a huge screened-in porch and a stunning view of the Folly River. There are NO neighbors or noise behind you- just view! It's peaceful, relaxing and just 2 short blocks to beach access. Doug made booking it so simple. We are already planning for next year's visit. If you want a real home away from home while on vacation-this is it! We cooked family dinners and also enjoyed the local restaurants. Even our 10 year old Boxer had the time of her life in the large fenced in yard. If you want a private and peaceful getaway with easy beach access that's still a quick ride to the action, this is it!
My family has been spending time on Folly since 1994. We've rented several different places over the years including beachfront. The Folly Bungalow was one of our best rentals. As our children have grown, we no longer need a large place and the bungalow fit our needs perfectly. It's cozy and comfortable with a gorgeous marsh view from the back porch. It is well equipped and we couldn't believe the generous supply of paper goods and cleaning supplies that were provided. The fenced yard was secure and worry free for our 2 pups to wander. Beach access was extremely convenient as mentioned by other reviews. We look forward to continuing our annual tradition of visiting Folly and plan to make the Folly Bungalow our go to rental.
My wife and I just spent a Spring time week in this wonderful cottage and, were we not happily ensconced in a continuing care retirement community elsewhere, would try to buy it in a heartbeat. We enjoyed it all...from front to back porches and everything between. It is not only furnished well but stocked with every implement and gadget you ever need. We didn't have to add a thing. It's location is also a real plus being just far enough away from the constant commotion downtown to provide some peaceful quiet but also situated very (repeat..very) close to a beautiful active beach while sitting right at river/marsh side. She's a fine representative of what a beach cottage can do...providing a setting for quiet relaxation as well as a place to come back to after an active afternoon on the beach or in downtown Charleston. Thanks to Doug and a whole support system that made this possible. Hope we'll be back.
Three words. Charm, comfort, relaxation. The weather was perfect for playing backgammon every morning on the wide screened porch that faces the river, a lovely vista of sea grasses and tide changes. The house is well-stocked and well-equipped with a wonderful bed that invited us to sleep a little longer. The beach really is two VERY short blocks away with public access right there at the end of those two blocks. We walked on the beach every day with our dog, Sadie, and also loved to walk along East Cooper, a charming avenue in its own right. In short, we love this place and will definitely return. Thank you, Doug, for being a wonderful help while we were here!
This home was great. Nicely decorated, charming & clean. Nice easy 1/2 circle drive way for parking & getting in & out. Wonderful screened porch w/ hammock, table & chairs for hanging out and looking at the Marsh while it rained. Hot hot water which was nice when we took showers & the outdoor shower was awesome. Plenty of linens, towels, pillows & dishes & kitchen items. We just had to bring the food. The road is nice & quiet but such a super short walk to the beach access - only a block & a short bike ride to Center Street where most restaurants & bars are. Neighbors were friendly and the boat launch was so convenient too. We had a really great time. 2 Beds & 2 baths w/ sleep sofa - just note the bathrooms are in the bedroom. So you have to go through the bedroom to get to a bathroom. No biggie for us. The Owner was very quick to respond to inquiries & accommodating. We were impressed w/ such a nice place to stay at and we will definitely hope to stay there again for a return trip. Favorite was the nice large screened porch and hammock. Thx!
The house is nice and just a short walk to the beach. The accommodations were almost perfect, but the master bedroom mattress was hard as a rock and left my wife and I both sore each morning. The screened-in porch on the back has a great view and the hammock was the perfect place to relax in the morning and afternoon. Unfortunately for us, we were only able to enjoy it for one day before the workers next door started their air compressor, power saws and hammering along with their music blaring from the radio from 8am until 7pm each day. It's really a shame, because the porch and view were two of the main reasons we chose this rental.
It appears that the bulk of the construction is complete, so hopefully not too many other guests have to endure this nuisance.
