ROOMY REMODELED VINTAGE COTTAGE - HISTORIC MANTEO:
Located just steps from the waterfront harbor, this large two-story cottage, is furnished in a colorful and comfy style. Historic Manteo is only a 10 minute drive to the Outer Banks beaches.
RENOVATED & RESTORED in 2012 :
With 2 new baths and kitchen, the cottage has beautiful dark hardwood floors throughout contrasting with elegant white wallpapers and tall old-world ceilings in the living room and formal dining room. Perfect for a small wedding party.
GREAT KITCHEN - FRESH SEAFOOD:
The kitchen is bright and colorful, well equipped for preparing a fresh seafood dinner. Also you'll find a new microwave, coffee maker, toaster-oven and blender for making spring soups or summer smoothies.
A charming full bath and restored bedrooms are on the second floor. All have quirky and quaint ceilings and closets – typical of vintage Manteo – and are furnished with large comfy beds (California King or Queen) and Manteo antiques. The house is centrally heated and air conditioned.
A high-ceiling sun-filled library is perfect for your early morning coffee and the daily paper – hardcopy or electronically delivered via the internet connection. (wifi)
Adjacent to the large living room is our petite television room with a 32” LED TV.
AND THERE IS MORE:
From the cottage, it is only a few steps to the Manteo public boat ramp, the Manteo Yacht Harbor and the waterfront and street front shops and cafes. During the summer months, a Saturday Farmer’s Market is held in the dockside public park – locally grown produce, local honey and local seafood. The nearby weather tower is a must for youngsters as the flags indicate the current (and changing) weather.
The following attractions are all within a short 5-minute drive: Island Farm, NC Aquarium, The Lost Colony and The Elizabethan Gardens.

A travel writer, and publisher, I reside much of my year outside the U.S.
My haunts are usually water related -- beaches if I can get to them.
The house has been in my family for more than 30 years and I grew up on this street (in a different location) attending the local schools. I'm a 9th generation Roanoke islander.
In the summer, I love walking with my granddaughter, 'JB' to the Saturday morning Farmers' Market where we share a danish and cold drinks and pick out great NC produce. 'JB' loves the weather tower and we check it often.
Walking to Poor Richard's for breakfast (love those grits) and reading the Wall Street Journal!
Browsing at local galleries -- the old courthouse gallery is charming. Sitting along the dockside late afternoons -- great views of Shallowbag Bay and all the sailboats make for great relaxation.
Walk to Festival Park (2 minute walk) for summer entertainment -- take low chairs or a beach towel -- food/beverage allowed. Many performances are for kids. Granddaughter, 'JB' loves them all.
Thanks for the great experience. Our 2 1/2 year old loved her "Queen" bed (fit for a princess) and the 'yellow house' overall. She didn't want to go home! Had a great time!
The Baum Cottage is perfectly located within Manteo's historic district, an easy stroll from Festival Park, the marina, restaurants, art galleries and shops. It's perfectly clean and inviting, well-appointed and cozy--like staying in your favorite relative's home--assuming your relatives have good taste! I especially appreciated the small touches throughout that give it personality and make it feel like home: lovely artwork, quality dishes and glassware, great books. Would I book it again? I just did!
This home is so welcoming and in a great location. Being in Manteo kept us off the main drags on the Outer Banks in the evenings but allowed easy access during the day. So much to do just on Roanoke that we hardly had time for the beach! Wish we could have stayed longer, Baum house felt like a home away from home!
Was very pleasantly surprised by the nice furnishings, loved the antiques and art. Kitchen was well-equipped and rooms were spacious yet cozy. The best thing about the property was the location, just steps away from everything in downtown Manteo. Would have liked some sort of outdoor space to sit, but if you bring your own chairs, that would suffice.
My husband, in-laws, and I stayed at the Balm house. We had the most relaxing vacation. It was just the right size, clean and comfortable. My mother- in-law stated that it was the best vacation spot that she had ever stayed in. The house is perfectly located. We will return. Thank you for a great vacation.
We absolutely loved our stay! The house is perfectly situated in town - 30 second stroll to cafes, shops, museum, gallery and the waterfront. Only 5 minutes from the rest of the island's attractions.
Loved the house's quirky, comfortable elegance and the large beds.
A group of four women, myself included, spent a weekend at this house and our every need was met. The house was spotless, very welcoming, comfortable, private. We were within walking distance of the town and area attractions. i do not hesitate to recommend this property for your enjoyment.
