About the property

Apartment, Studio, 1 bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

[please inquire about price and availability; because of the unique multiple configuration of this flat, we cannot make the calendar here work accurately and VRBO is incapable of calculating the rate accurately for all the different possible ways of configuring the apartment -- IMPORTANT: note that the price VRBO calculates is based on one guest, staying in the studio (no-bedroom; very comfortable sleep sofa in the living room) configuration]

A charming studio apartment for 1-2 guests, Apartment Pierre is an affordable yet amenity-laden alternative to more expensive 4- and 5-Star hotels. In the absolute center of the city, Pierre offers everything from free N'espresso coffee to high speed Internet to unlimited free international VOIP calling with a US incoming phone number. Renovated in 2011, the apartment is decorated with antiques and furnishings appropriate to the setting and its period. Overlooking a landmarked courtyard from the top (5th) floor, with elevator, washing machine, air conditioning, and a tiny but panoramic view (from the kitchen area) of the attics of Pest and the hills of Buda.

You will feel immediately at home when you stay in Pierre. Our attention to detail ranges from the custom-loomed towels made of organic Turkish cotton to the Mac Mini computer, flatpanel TV, dvd library, and assortment of guidebooks and fiction; from super-soft bamboo linens to welcoming wine from carefully selected vineyards.

The kitchen is stocked with staples, the bathroom with all the basics in case you've left anything home

Expandable options...

Pierre is a studio apartment (no bedroom), but an optional bedroom can be added; and it is adjacent to our Apartment SarahBelle (VRBO #124227) and can be inter-connected with that larger flat to create an apartment with up to three bedrooms and three baths.

About John Farago

John's father grew up in Budapest, and John grew up hearing about it, filtered through the oddly appealing love/hate lens of nazism and communism and Central European nostalgia. His father left in the mid-30s, and never went back until a 1975 week-long visit. But Hungary lived within him throughout his colorful career as a journalist, popular historian (author of the books that the films Patton and Tora, Tora, Tora were based on), propagandist and operative for Radio Free Europe. He died in 1980.

John Farago purchased this apartment in 2013

Why John Farago chose Budapest

Jeanne and John visited in 2001 with John's father's younger brother, spent a weekend and fell in love with it. We purchased and renovated these apartments for our own use (Belle and Sarah are our daughters, Max is our son; Olive and Andrei our grandchildren) and only rent them when we are not using them ourselves for friends and family (we have another apartment where we stay ourselves, not very far away).

What makes this apartment unique

We are passionate about Budapest and want to share that enthusiasm with our guests. We would be happy to assist in any way we can to help you have a wonderful trip whether you stay with us or elsewhere. Unless you speak Hungarian, booking tickets to concerts or events can be daunting, and are best handled in advance because so much sells out so swiftly...we are happy to take care of this kind of thing, advise about the city, or book a reservation in a restaurant for the day you arrive (though you may be weary by then).

Put your faith in the descriptions of John and Jeanne's apartments, and the 5 star reviews that others have written - John, the owner, is truly helpful, as is his local apartment manager. The apartments are so well set up that it's hard to see what local help you might need, but you would certainly get their help if you need it. I had a great time here and would be delighted to return.

Exceptional apartment in central Budapest.

  • 5 of 5

Apartment Liesel / Pierre is in a fantastic location in the heart of beautiful Budapest. Even before our arrival, we received detailed information from John, the owner, to help us plan our stay. Our visit was well orchestrated; from the pick up at the airport to the warm welcome at the apartment where we were greeted and briefed on the incredible amenities. The apartment is very well laid out and spacious. The owners have put a great amount of thought into ensuring that travellers feel at home and have all that they might need, including wine and welcome treats! The apartment is well organized and thoroughly equipped. The attention to detail is very impressive. There is a wealth of information on hand to help travellers plan where to go, shop and eat. The location is perfect; close to the major sites and yet very peaceful and great for sleeping. We were absolutely thrilled with the apartment and most impressed with the thought and care John puts into making sure guests have a wonderful stay.

Fabulous time in Budapest

  • 5 of 5

Although I have been to Budapest many times and still have family there, I chose to rent accommodations for the whole family, travelling together, this trip. The apartments were wonderful and I cannot say enough positive things about the owners. For every aspect of the trip there was sound, good advise and helpful information about how to get around and nagivate a foreign city. The apartments were beautiful, well situated and thoughtfully stocked to allow an easy arrival. We had the option to open the three apartments, to each other, to be together, or close them, for privacy, for each group. Every aspect of comfort was addressed, and each apartment had above average amenities that would certainly make any visitor comfortable . I will return to these rental sites, in a heartbeat, if needed, in the future! Rating would be 8 if allowed!

The Best of Local Culture with the Feeling of Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in apartments Belle and Leisel, using Belle for an entire week and Leisel for a few nights for our daughter and son-in-law before they transferred to the Hilton for a work conference. They were disappointed with the hotel after their first nights in this home! It is truly perfectly located, and provides every amenity you could hope for, while giving you all the local flavor and history you travel to Budapest for. There are lively street markets nearby, you are only a few blocks from the Deak Ferenc ter Metro station and the Danube, and every type of shop you could need is within walking distance. No need to overpack for this trip - anything you might forget is already here - we appreciated not having to buy converters/adaptors for our phones/tablets, the internet worked flawlessly and at decent speed, the phone is available for free calls back to the US if needed. The amount of information John provides is daunting, but make sure to read it all, and don't hesitate to use his recommendations for anything. The taxi service was perfect, no need to struggle with public transportation after a long day of travel and jet lag, and return to the airport was just as easy. Restaurant suggestions are spot on, and his favorites were ours also. After a few days of acclimation to getting around with the public transit, we ventured further out for a day trip to Szentendre, which is very quaint and picturesque if you have time. If we are lucky enough to return to Budapest, we would schedule our trip around the availability of one of John's apartments, they are that good!

Perfect Budapest stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (children ages 10 and 11) recently stayed in the Sarah, Belle, and Liesel/Pierre apartments with another family of five and were beyond impressed. Having all three apartment gave us all plenty of private space for the nine of us but nice areas to mingle and enjoy each other's company. The space could even be big enough for 3 families to fit. The amenities provided were way above what we expected and every detail was taken care of. We had wine, cheese, eggs, fruit, bread and desserts upon arrival. Internet, calls back to the US, comfortable beds and linens, plush towels, bath towels for the spa, umbrellas, games for the children, books of all kinds...the list goes on! The apartments are all welcoming and comfortable and make you feel at home and John, the owner, was available when we had any questions or needs. Location is right by a pleasant shopping and eating area and 5 mins to a metro but very quiet. We easily walked to most of the main sites. Long term parking is right across the street and places for money exchange around the corner. These properties are well worth every penny you will spend. John, thank you so much for making our stay perfect!!!

The best in Budapest

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in Budapest in late July 2015 after pre-arranging a stay at the Liesel/Pierre apartment. We travelled by air from Cleveland, Ohio to Budapest with a few stops in between, so we arrived a bit weary. Luckily, we had taken our host, John's advice, and hired his driver to pick us up at the airport; he was there as planned, and drove us through the city, directly to our apartment. We liked him so well that we used his services for day trips during our stay!

We were greeted kindly by the apartment property manager, and she gave us an orientation to all of the ins and outs...including the locks and safety features of the apartment building. She had stocked the apartment with a huge bowl of fresh blueberries, cheese, salami, fresh baked bread, butter, water, wine, coffee and milk, and freshly baked, still warm hungarian pastries!! What a treat all of this was. We had a snack and a strong coffee, and felt ready to make use of our first day in Hungary.

About the apartment: The living space is not huge, but it is enough, and it is very comfortable. The kitchen is perfectly equipped with every tool or utensil you may need. The pull-out couch bed is wonderfully comfortable, and the bed in the bedroom is, too. The linens are top-notch, and all kinds of extras were supplied...from shampoo, to toothpaste, to band-aids and sewing kits. We wanted for nothing. Our host even supplied a full set of electrical converters for any tech or appliance we may have brought with us.

What I appreciated most about our stay in this apartment was it's owner/manager. John was completely willing to communicate with us about our stay. He was happy to help us with our trip planning, and was able to answer all of our questions. He worked hard to accommodate us. And, we felt very well cared for, and perfectly accommodated. We will refer others to the beautiful city of Budapest, and we will surely recommend them to stay in one of John's properties. Our experience was stellar. Thank you, John!
