Why Al Hurley chose Arezzo Province

We fell in love with Cortona during our first visit to Italy in 2001. After exploring Sienna, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Montechiello and Florence, we kept returning to this beautiful town. The people, the food, the wine, the everyday hustle and bustle of Italian life; just some of the qualities that led us to settle in Cortona.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is a two minute walk to the central piazza where you can take a seat at an outdoor table with a glass of wine and have one of the best meals of your life! Watch the Italians stroll by on their nightly 'passeggiata'.

Stepping outside the door and walking just a few steps to your left you come upon a sweeping view of the valley and the northern end of Lake Trasimeno where Hannibal once marched against the armies of Rome. Enjoy your Italian vacation in this beautiful typically Tuscan apartment.

Great apartment in a great Tuscan hill town

  • 5 of 5

We rented Sernini 6 for 3 weeks in October, 2014. The apartment is well suited to one or two couples or a family with several children. It is clean and well furnished. The main bedroom on the first floor is spacious and has a very comfortble bed. The kitchen is small but very utilitarian. The living room contains an eating table for 4-6 people and several chairs for relaxation. The apartment is well furnished with cooking utensils, plates and silverware, and a washing machine. There is no dryer, but a clothes rack serves well. The bathroom is small but very useable. The upstairs loft contains a double bed, couch, and TV-DVD. We ate breakfast and a few dinners in the apartment and had other meals in Cortona's wonderful restaurants or in other hill towns. The apartment is about a two-block walk to the town piazza up a relatively steep hill and about a 2 block walk downhill to the town parking area and bus stop. These walks provide great exercize--this is a "hill" town after all. The location is ideal to access hill towns in Umbria and Tuscany by car.

Our favorite restaurants in Cortona are: Locanda al Pozzo Antico (try the macaroncini with ragu sauce della Nonna-the best pasta I've ever had), la Bucaccia, La Grotta, and Trattoria Dardano. The Galleria Il Pozzo is an outstanding art and gift store. Owner Ivan and wife and daughter are helpful and kind. The Tuscan Magic Travel Agency owner, Laura, was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. We rented a car and purchased all train tickets through her agency. She speaks English very well and is always ready to answer questions and make suggestions.

The owner provides notes regarding favorite restaurants, stores, and friends in Cortona that we found to be extremely helpful. We loved using the apartment as home base.

We would re commend this apartment to anyone. It is absolutely delightful!

A Magical Week

  • 5 of 5

Our magical week in Cortona was due largely from staying in this apartment. We were about 2 short blocks from the town square and the owners' friends and contacts at the square absolutely made our week. We have been to Cortona several times before, but enjoyed this apartment and it's location more than previous visits. The owners' information booklet provides wonderful contacts throughout the town and were well thought out and informative. The apartment was extremely clean and well equipped, even with the washer/dryer. We would highly recommend this apartment to anyone wanting to explore the fabulous city of Cortona -one of our favorite towns in all of Italy.

Paradise not Lost!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for the first time in this wonderful and peaceful apartment located in the center of Cortona. Prior to our arrival, the owner of the unit had provided us with a detailed guide to Cortona and its environs. What a treasure this proved to be. Every conceivable detail was covered. Upon arrival, we were welcomed at the train station in Terontola by the very friendly and helpful property manager who escorted us to our doorstep in Cortona. The apartment was comfortable, clean, very neat and tastefully decorated, but it's greatest asset was its central location to the wonderful piazzas. We were only a 2-5 minutes walk to the main shopping and eating areas and, for you tennis players out there, in another 15 minutes of walking we could find ourselves at the beautiful tennis club which featured two red clay courts.

For lovers of art, museums, and wine this location is perfect! Cortona proved to be an excellent location from which to hop in a car or to jump on a train to visit the nicest places in Tuscany. Our property manager was a fabulous asset in helping us organize our out of Cortona day trips. She would even provide drivers for us when needed.

We are already looking forward to our return to this Tuscan paradise!

Great value and location

  • 4 of 5

Cortona is a wonderful hill town, more manageable than towns like Multepulciano, and provides a good base for visiting the wine towns, Siena, etc. It was nice to return from a hard day's sightseeing to have a simple dinner and bottle of wine "at home". One experiences village life, and food and sophisticated wine shopping are 5 minutes away. And, as usual in Italy, the restaurants are really good. The apartment is close to the main squares, making it easy to shop and enjoy the evening stroll. The place is comfortable with the conveniences needed for a week's stay (washing machine, stove, good size refrigerator). One must adjust expectations in an Italian hill town: the bathroom is condensed and the neighbors are close by. The bedrooms are sizable, and there is a nice table for dining. The owner was quick to respond to questions prior to departing for Italy and provided excellent directions for locating the caretaker. There is free parking nearby. We certainly would reco this apt. to friends and relatives.
