Good value in a unique area
This was our first visit to Junquillal, although we had been to Guanacaste several times. We were there in early December, and enjoyed great weather most days. We had the pool to ourselves most days (except for the howlers, the lagartos and the birds), and also had Playa Blanca to ourselves except for the occasional fistherman.
Michael and Viki's villa is spacious, and the balcony off the master bedroom has views of both the sunrise and the sunset. There is a security guard/handyman on duty 24/7, and each of them was very helpful and seemed happy to assist with anything that came up. They keep the pool very clean, and will turn on the waterfall on request.
We can't really comment on the Hotel Iguanazul, as it turned out to be closed for renovations during our stay. If you are counting on access to its facilities (about a five minute walk) you might want to consult the hotel before your visit. However we discovered a number of other good options for restaurants and wifi elsewhere in Junquillal. Mundo Milo and Guacamaya were the best we found, although Cafe Surf, Lochitos, and Los Amigos were all good as well. The supermercado next to Cafe Surf was surprisingly well stocked.
The best excursion we had was the mangrove estuary kayak tour, $30/person, arrange through Sylvia at Castilo Divertido. We had also hoped to see turtles nesting, but that didn't work out while we were there. But a visit to the volunteers working at the turtle station near the beach is very informative.
Clean and simple
Great property, simple and close to everything. We had the place to ourselves because it was low season, so it felt very private. The security guards were super nice and so was everyone we met. Looking forward to the next time...
Great place to stay!!
My family and I spent a week at this great house! The house was comfortable and fit all 6 of us. Waking up hearing howler monkeys and tropical birds was something we all could have gotten used to! Having the house close to Hotel Iguanazul was amazing. The views and the local people are what make this place worth coming to. Food was great and the pool was perfect - at the hotel and another 100 ft. house!! The house was comfortable and fit all 6 of us. We are an active family and found the world class surfing close by and adventures at every turn!! Cant wait to go back.
Simply Amazing, Amazingly Simple
It is difficult to put my vacation experience into words; words just won't do it justice. When researching places to go on vacation, I was looking for several things: good surf, good fishing, friendly people, affordable accommodations and ultimate relaxation. This Costa Rica trip checked all the boxes, and then some. I wasn't looking for a luxury resort, just a clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment to spend the week. i was pleasantly surprised by this condo, I just wasn't expecting this much, for this little (money). It was great - perfect location within minutes from world class surf spots, in close proximity to phenomenal bars and restaurants, and right down the block from the small fishing charter boats. The condo was clean, the staff were super friendly, and the amenities were just right; the perfect median between uber luxurious and roughing it. Oh yea, the dip in the practically private pool right outside the front door of the condo after a day at the beach was the perfect way to end the day with a beer before heading off to dinner. Highly recommend going to Costa Rica and staying at this condo!
