Rent this comfortable studio cottage directly on the harbor of this undeveloped outermost island with only 24 homes (10 belong to lobstermen). Spend your days walking on paths along the rocky shore line and through the dark spruce woods. Explore meadows above rocky cliffs overlooking the Matinicus Rock lighthouse where puffins nest. Watch lobstermen harvest lobsters.
Get your drinking water from a well. Outfitted with full kitchen, solar power, commode and outhouse, hot shower, gas heat, running water from a cistern for washing. Loft with two twin beds and a pull out sleep sofa downstairs. Bring all food and drinks as there are no stores on the island. Bring sleeping bags or bed linens and towels.
Transportation: 10 minute plane ride from Knox County Airport in Owl’s Head near Rockland, ME to a grass airstrip on the island via Penobscot Island Air or one hour and fifteen minute boat ride from Rockland to the island via Penobscot Island Ferry or Matinicus Excursions both private ferries.
