About Joy Beaton
I am a semi-retired on-site property manager/owner. This property is my personal residence where I have lived since 1992 and lovingly remodeled and restored the house and cottage. I am originally from the Midwest but have lived in Sarasota since 1985. I understand and love the call of travel and the enjoyment of being somewhere that is authentic.
Joy Beaton purchased this Cottage in 1992
Why Joy Beaton chose Indian Beach Sapphire Shores
I bought this house for its peace, quiet and natural setting. People have called the place 'magical.' Built in 1926, it is a traditional Florida Southern Colonial. The grounds are large and kept in their natural Florida native state with a old oak hammock and jungle garden feel. It is located in an historic neighborhood walking distance to the Ringling Museum (of international fame for its religious baroque art collection and Circus Memorabilia) and to The Jungle Gardens (one of the last remaining original old style tourist attractions with a hand fed flock of pink flamingos.) The neighborhood is home to artists and history enthusiasts.
What makes this Cottage unique
A walkable neighborhood with small good independent restaurants a few blocks away (Vietnamese, Italian, Chinese, American Café). Nearby kayak rental and sunset beach where the adventuresome put their kayaks in or fish in their waist high waders. Drug stores and a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market and Publix are just minutes away. And the Ringling College of Art and Design hosts a Starbucks and student exhibitions frequently as well as summer classes and other visiting artist events. Sarasota is a unique and lovely SW Florida City of culture and convenience to some of the world's best beaches. A short drive will also take you to state parks and to the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, other attractions in the Tampa Bay Region or Orlando Disney which is about a 1 and a 1/2 hour drive away.

Charming, cozy, calming cottage tucked in great neighborhood!
This is such a charmer! This cottage, tucked into a quiet neighborhood, and attended to by Joy, was such a treat! Thoughtful considerations are evident everywhere. Just minutes from downtown with loads of dining, shopping and other sites, we highly recommend staying here! Be sure to experience the sunset just steps from the cottage, visit the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, the Ringling Museum, take in a play, visit the delightful baseball parks, walk a beach - have a BALL! Stay with Joy and you will be joyful. =}
The cottage is wonderful and exactly as described. It is tastefully decorated and has everything that you need; the kitchen is well stocked, plenty of towels and bed is super comfortable. The owner is welcoming and happy to provide advice on things to do and places to take advantage of in the Sarasota area. Highly recommend staying here!
The property was just as charming as we imaged it be based on the description on the home away site.
This cottage is in a beautiful, quiet, neighborhood , just a short walk to the edge of the bay where we enjoyed watching sunsets. The location is a short drive from beaches, museums, restaurants, and the ball park. The cottage is clean, quaint and comfortable. Joy ensured that we had everything we needed, including privacy to enjoy our mini vacation. We would definitely visit again!
Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to host you at The Cottage.
Secret Garden In The Tropics
From the moment I drove up the circular drive & walked into The Cottage, I was thoroughly enchanted. SUCH a fabulous location, close to everything Sarasota has to offer, & the Bay is right across the street! The Cottage is a lovingly tended, very sweet space filled with good energy. The grounds are lush & quiet & packed with greenery & flowers. I wish I had at least a month to enjoy everything this space has to offer. Mostly? The owner, Joy, lives up to her name. She was SUCH a joy to be around, so helpful, so insightful, & she even gifted me with a birthday cake on my birthday! I was in town b/c my Mom was in the hospital, & the extra attention Joy gave me really made a very challenging time in my life a lot easier. I simply canNOT say enough good things about my experience The Cottage. Thank You, Joy!
Thank you for your review. It was a pleasure to have you enjoy The Cottage. You are very welcome to return.
Cozy Cottage and Wonderful Host
My husband and I were in Florida doing 'recon' to buy a retirement home in Sarasota. He stayed at this wonderful cottage for the entire month. The cottage is cozy and inviting. It is located right across the street from the bay in a very cool neighborhood of old Sarasota. It has every amenity you could need and you will quickly feel right at home. Joy, our host and owner of this property certainly lives up to her name! She was a "Joy' to get to know and was so helpful with every aspect of our stay. The cottage was clean and well-maintained, and although it is a studio, it is much bigger than you might think. Location is five minutes from downtown Sarasota and close to all of the beaches and Keys. Restaurants abound! I would go back to this property in a heartbeat! We really enjoyed our stay and I can guarantee that you will too! Valoree Vargo
