Location is scary; apartment is fine

  • 2 of 5

It was not abundantly clear when I read the other reviews that this apartment is NOT in a good part of town. I came in at night and the taxi driver was nervous to drop me and my daughter off until my brother came to meet me. There are dozens of homeless folks camping out in tents on this block. The apartment is walking distance to a nicer area but I was much too afraid to walk around by myself, especially after dark. During my 4 night stay, there were 2 nights that both of the outside gates were left unlocked and one night wide open. The apartment itself is adequate and nicely decorated.

Owner's Response: The apartment is located across the street from Google headquarters and the world famous Gold's Gym. It is on Rose Ave, the hottest street in Venice, and it is completely safe. This is a 5 star listing in a 2 million dollar house. But yes, we do have homeless people in Venice, and I'm sorry the diversity scared you.

Pretty good

  • 4 of 5

The house it's self is great! Perfect location and very hidden from the street. Great privacy. The one thing that was really irritating was there is no air conditioning. It gets really hot and humid. Also the walls are paper thin. The pull out couch thing is weird but comfy. Also the washer/dryer is outside by thr gate by the parking but it works great. Overall we had a great experience. Lots of dishes make it easy to cook. We enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: Hi, thank you for your feedback. It was 60 degrees during your stay and we don't really have humidity by the beach, so I was confused by your comment about the AC. Units by the beach generally don't have AC.

fabulous space and amazing location

  • 5 of 5

loved the location, the hot tub was fabulous after a day on the beach, the bikes were great to ride everywhere, the space was great, kitchen functional, very convenient. there was some noise one night that woke me up, started up around 3:30 AM and lasted an hour with some thumping music I think in the adjacent unit, besides that it was perfect. and I read some of the other reviews and there are homeless across the street, but very nice harmless folks not threatening or scary at all.

my concern is that property needs a lot of improvements about cleaning , safety and accommodations.

  • 2 of 5

I do not like to make complaints, however I think this property needs better care. Anyone can easily notice the poor quality of the cleanliness in the kitchen and bathroom. The sofa bed is in bad condition. But what scared me the most was someone opening the front door and entering the house in the middle of the night.

Great location! Perfect for an active traveler.

  • 4 of 5

This place is nice and private in the busy Venice area. The neighborhood is a little loud, so if you want peace and quiet look elsewhere. If you can sleep through some noise and want to be in heart of the action this place is great.

Within walking distance of beach, shopping, restaurants, Whole Foods, etc...

Nice idea - bad execution

  • 2 of 5

The idea of a place near the beach with bikes and beach stuff sounded great. We took the bikes up and down the beach walk and we had a blast. Nearby is a great restaurant (the rose") and Abbot Kinney Blvd is nearby. The place has a bathroom, bed, kitchen with stuff, a sofa and some art. But... The state of the interior (the paint on the walls, the quality of the sofa, the quality of the bed and the quality of the shower) as well as the quality of the outdoor area made me feel that I was staying in a "junky house". We did not want to be inside. We spent all day and most of the evenings outside. The idea of sleeping in that bed gave me shivers. I would have almost preferred sleeping outside across the street with all the homeless (nice bunch of peep, lots of them).

Adding to the state of the house, when we came back one evening after dinner, we found someone's phone in the living room. Either stolen or lost. Anyway, someone entered the premises while we were renting it - unannounced. I asked the owner and he simply replied that it "could" have been his manager. wtf?!

Bottom Line: If you are not picky about the quality of the place, by all means go for it. The idea is great, but I would not return.
