Welcome to Eagles' Nest Lookout
...A captivating retreat away from the distractions of modern life.
Enjoy the best nature has to offer at your private wooded waterfront retreat on Nelson Lake!
Just eight miles outside of Hayward, it's the perfect cabin to stay at during the Birkie weekend! In the colder months, world class X-Country ski trails or snowshoeing can fill your desire for exercise, however don't be surprised if you'll find just as much pleasure enjoying the ambiance of a winter's evening with a glass of wine in front of a wood burning fireplace.
Comfortable in all seasons, there is plenty to do inside and out, with three bedrooms, sleeping loft, two family rooms, two fireplaces, fully equipped kitchen, spacious yard, fire pit, and dock space for your own boat!
The warm weather months tempt you to watch the bald eagles soar and hear the loons call while sitting on your private south facing dock enjoying the unique beauty of the North Woods!
Two full bathrooms and three bedrooms, in addition to a loft will accommodate a total of 10!
During the spring and summer months there are many outdoor activities to enjoy including the use of our two kayaks and canoe, fishing, biking, hiking, etc. There are also several nearby sandy swimming beaches just up the lake a bit.

My husband and I are in our 50's. While we enjoy living and working in the Twin Cites, we are true nature lovers and thoroughly love the peaceful surroundings of the Wisconsin 'Northwoods'.
We purchased the cabin 10 years ago in order to experience quality family time.
We intentionally did not have a TV or internet for many years so that our three children would be encouraged to play games, read, do puzzles, go on hikes, talk (to us and each other :) ) etc.
Now that our children are older they have learned to value these same activities and enjoy bringing their friends to share the 'cabin experience'.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2002
We enjoy nature and often spend the entire weekend staying at the cabin, appreciating all of the many types of wildlife.
However, we are also fairly social and truly enjoy going into town with friends to shop, go to a restaurant, take in a live performance at The Park Theater, or go to the wine cave for a glass of wine.
Being 15 minutes outside of town lets us enjoy the best of both worlds!
Our Up North Cabin combines privacy and togetherness with it's well designed layout. It is perfect for two families or a reunion. There are private sleeping accomodations for both the kids and adults including:
* 1 Bedroom with a queen bed
* 1 Loft with a queen bed
* 1 Bedroom with a set of twin beds
* 1 Bunkroom with two sets of bunks.
* A secret 'fort' for the kids...
We had such a nice time at Eagles Nest. Perfect for a group of girlfriends. The lovely cabin is very comfortable spacious and well stocked for what we needed. We played board games, drank wine, had a bonfire and you can't beat all the fun in the Hayward area. Your lake is a perfect distance....definitely not in Hayward but a quick drive to shopping, dining, golf, walks in the woods etc. Hope to be back again.
We truly enjoyed our time in Hayward at the Eagles Nest. We had two families of 4 each. There was plenty of space for us all. It is a beautiful cabin with nice amenities. We were thankful for nice weather to enjoy the kayaks, canoe and outdoor space. We brought two boats and were able to keep them docked for the trip, making it easy to also enjoy the lake. Although we were unable to walk-in to the lake from the cabin (weedy / muk), we were able to find swimming areas for the kids around the lake. Thank you Eagles Nest for a memorable family vacation. We had a wonderful vacation!!
Our group was a small group of moms getting away for a girls weekend.
The Pros- First and foremost, Bonnie was wonderful to work with! She was responsive and kind in all of our communications. The cabin itself is beautiful with plenty of room to spread out in the 3 bedrooms and a loft. All with very pretty finishes, nice comfortable beds and plenty of linens. This would be great for a winter retreat. Several bars and restaurants on the lake were accessible if you rent a pontoon. Please note the rental companies do not want you running the pontoon after dark. There are lots of trees and logs in the lake. They make you sign an agreement that you will not operate after dark. So if you want to go out for a later dinner or to the bar, do not plan on a boat.
The Cons- Here are a list of what our group considered to be cons. Many of these items were due to a flood in the area, which is an act of God and we fully understood that Bonnie could not control these items. High water lead to a flooded firepit area, which we could not use. The cabin is located in a very weedy area of the lake. I would not recommend this cabin to people with small children who are looking for a beach. It is muddy, and full of weeds and cattails. If you rent a boat and swim off the boat in the middle of the lake you will be fine, but do not plan on swimming from the shore here. During our stay, it was in the upper 90s and there is NO A/C in this cabin!!! It was quite unbearable! We will never make this mistake again in July in Wisconsin. There is also no Wi-Fi. The refrigerator was only running at about 75% and the freezer was not freezing anything fully.
Overall, it is a beautiful cabin.
My family and I just finished our 3rd annual stay at the Eagles Nest Lookout, and once again we were delighted and had a great experience! We are a 4-generation group ranging in age from 85 to 3 years old, and the cabin is cozy and quite comfortable with lots of sitting and sleeping space. We've played hours worth of games at the big dining table and the beautiful front windows allow for an awesome view of the water, as does the wrap around deck. We love taking the kayaks and canoe out on the water, and have had many peaceful excursions and eagle sightings. The lot is quiet and wooded, and really lovely (especially on breezy days, my favorite). Hayward is just a short, easy drive away with lots of fun things to do. For young kids, we recommend Wilderness Walk, and the fishing-loving guys enjoy the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame. And for sure, Coop's Pizza is a must at some point during our stay! I've always had great communication with the owner and I we are already looking forward to our stay again next year!
My family, along with another couple enjoyed using this cabin over New Years. Cabin was right on the lake and had the ice been thick enough, would have enjoyed snowmobiling directly from cabin. Even though lake was not frozen, trails were accessible. Cabin was very nice and had a very comfortable family feel to it. There was plenty of room for the 6 of us plus more if needed. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend to others. Owners were very easy to work with and communication was easy.
This cabin was perfect for a long weekend getaway! The kids had a great time exploring inside and out an were probably in and out of the canoe 3 times the first day! Great view of the lake!
We also enjoyed some time wandering around Hayward. Fun shops and restaurants. The old-fashioned candy store was a highlight!
If you are there Friday night, don't miss the fish fry at the 4 Seasons on the other side of the lake!
We are located on Nelson Lake directly across from 'Eagles Nest Island'.
