About Cathy Keil

We have enjoyed this house as a weekend getaway, then as a vacation home and our kids grew up waterskiing here. Now the grandkids are enjoying it, too. We remodeled and upgraded the house in 2009 and and rebuilt the dock in 2013. It now has all the comforts we need.

Cathy Keil purchased this house in 1994

Why Cathy Keil chose Bethel Island

Less than 2 hours from the Bay Area, it was close enough to come for a weekend and far enough away to really relax and forget about work. The neighbors are friendly if you want to walk around and chat or they will leave you alone if you don't want to go out and meet them.

What makes this house unique

It is a quiet, relaxing place to forget about the stress of work or the rest of your problems. Close to small towns if you want to run in to a movie or a big grocery store and we have small bars, restaurants, and boating facilities close by if you need them. You can walk along the levee and see the unique houses and boats. Overall, it is just a fun place to relax and enjoy.

We have NO WiFi or internet access. The house is above ground so to get wheel chair access, you have to drive up on the levee and drop off your passenger and/or supplies. You cannot park there permanently so you must then return your car to the ground level garage. Children are welcome, but parents must be aware that the water is right out front and accessible, and you are responsible for keeping children safe. We have life vests available and insist our grandkids wear them any time they are near the water. We love pets as much as the next person, and you are responsible for any damage caused by them. Electricity is available on the dock.

Great delta getaway

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house on Bethel Island for a fun family vacation. We completely enjoyed staying at this house, perfect for our family and visitors. The house is nicely furnished, has a great layout, easy to cook in/bbq and has a nice large deck and dock for relaxing. The caretaker, Lisa, is so helpful which added to overall great experience. Would love to rent this home again!

nice for dog owners

  • 3 of 5

I would stay there again if allowed ...We messed up when leaving and smoked pot outside on the deck with the door open... the claimed it permeated the house.. i did not think to did but i can not not argue and apologize if it did... we did not smoke in the home...only on the deck.

This is nice place probably during the summer time if you are fishing and have a boat. We had dog so it worked for us...

Not much privacy with having the house boat out back when we smoked on the deck...No signs are posted not to smoke.

However, it was cold and heater is not he best. During the winter it was really cold and the heater is on a timer.. it took most of the evening just to get warm and the bedrooms were the time it warmed up the timer shuts off heater in the middle of the night and our first morning was a real drag. Very cold.

But my biggest gripe is the quality of the smells real bad, like sulfur....My first morning being super cold i took a shower in it and almost gagged me from the smell initially .. Also, I took my meds with it being unaware.... pretty bad experience. Burped up sulphur all day...

The beds are real lumpy and there is no couch... Not that comfortable...but for fish camping it is fine...

We did not even cook there because of water quality...but we lost our deposit because the place may now smell better than it did before by smoking good pot on the deck...It smelled better than the sulfur stick..

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay. We do not post signs regarding our no smoking policy as it is clearly written in our rental agreement that you agreed to when you booked your reservation. Our propane stove is not on a timer so I don't understand why it would shut off. I appreciate you bringing our attention to this matter as we will now check that out thoroughly. The propane stove does have a fan that when you turn the fan up, it will produce more heat. Our water on Bethel Island does, sometimes, produce this sulfur smell. While the water is safe to drink, we do provide bottled water located behind the bar for your use. I also thank you for letting us know about the beds. We have not received any complaints regarding this matter. Again, we will be checking this out as well. ~ Cathy Keil

Owner's Response: I'm sorry you found the beds to be uncomfortable. We have a Thermapedic "topper" on one bed and feather beds on the other bed. Guests have said how much they enjoy sleeping there. I do thank you for your response ~ Cathy

Quiet, peaceful, rejuvinating

  • 5 of 5

Delightful property that we wouldn't hesitate to book again. The house was clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay very much and really appreciated the kind, helpful hospitality of the owner and property manager. Great area to play around on any kind of watercraft. October in Calif is some of the best time for crowds, good weather. This place was absolutely perfect for us. We brought our boat and tied her up right out the back door! (Sugar Barge marina is very nice and close.) Was nice to have a good place to keep the boat trailer too. The sunrise views from the deck at the dock were wonderful. The lack of wi-fi wasn't a problem as there was a solid Verizon signal and our hot spot worked great. Was lots of reality TV outside with all the wildlife action. Our time there was way too short. We didn't want to leave and already have a plan to return next year.

Cozy Delta-front property with private boat dock

  • 5 of 5

I recently spent 4 nights at this wonderful delta front property. I launch my boat at Sugar Barge Marina just minutes from the house. I arrive by boat to the house and dock the boat at my private dock. The house is a cozy 2 bedroom home that has been recently remodeled. Well stocked kitchen provides a convenient place to prepare our meals. Lisa and Bob who live in a boat next door came to greet us as we arrived. They are very friendly and helpful. Its great to just jump off the dock and cool off in the delta on a hot summer day. This has been our second time at this home. My wife and I will definitely be back again.

Owner's Response: Thank you John for this glowing review. So happy you made it back for a second time. We look forward to your next visit. Lisa tells me that you both are model guests and took such good care of our house. Thank you! The Delta is truly a wonderful, watery playground and you are welcome back anytime.
