One of our favorite winter traditions is cutting down our Christmas tree at one of the beautiful tree farms near Boulder Creek.
Our house: We first saw our house in the winter rains and were instantly charmed. It is a cozy retreat in the redwoods, and it has been lovingly maintained and decorated for our family and friends' use. It was exclusively our family's weekend and holiday retreat for seven years before we began sharing it with others via HomeAway and VRBO. Our family has had countless special times there with our children, friends, and visiting relatives. It isn't just another rental house - the rocking chair is the one Grandma Linda rocked all her children in, the rugs have been in the family for 40 years, and so on. We are very happy to share the house with others and have been thrilled that so many guests have discovered the Santa Cruz mountains while visiting.
Boulder Creek: Boulder Creek is a vintage small town - it has one stop sign! It's the town closest to Big Basin Redwood State Park, so most visitors go to Boulder Creek on their way to take walks or hikes in the old-growth redwoods. Even though Boulder Creek is very small, there are two grocery stores - one Safeway-like, the other more similar to Whole Foods. There are also several restaurants, some great coffee places, a brewery, a couple of fun antique stores & thrift stores, a pharmacy a tea room, and a few places to get wonderful massages/facials. One of our favorite outings (and our dog's!) is a ride on Roaring Camp & Big Trees Narrow-Gauge Railroad - we ride the steam train up to old-growth redwoods at Bear Mountain, followed by a hike among more amazing old-growth redwoods at Henry Cowell State Park (right next door). We also love to spend the afternoon exploring the river and river-beaches and berry picking. Several guests have gone zip-lining at nearby Mount Hermon's Redwood Canopy Tours...we've heard it's wonderful! Visiting some local wineries is another favorite way to spend an afternoon with friends.

Suzanne Koch purchased this house in 2004
We loved the magnificent redwoods all around, including our own 'Fairy Ring,' and only 25 minutes down the hill to the beaches.
"Thank you for making your fantastic cabin available for me, the kids, and grandpa. A perfect multi-generational setting! I especially appreciated your detailed instructions and activity suggestions. It made for a terrific vacation.
You have a very special place here in the Santa Cruz mountains. I hope to be able to return sometime. Thank you very much!"
The home was perfect for our family of 5. Our kids (age 8, 10 & 12) really enjoyed the cabin and so did we. Suzanne (the owner) has really thought of everything and provided really detailed instructions on not only the cabin but the surrounding area. We hope to stay again!! Thank you!
We loved our stay here! It is so beautiful and feels like you are staying in a cozy home. There are tons of kids games, the kitchen has beautiful dishes, and the hot tub is a dream!
We loved the cabin. Very accessible along CA 9 and yet close to Henry Cowell and Big Basin. We did some great hikes. The cabin is very nice with two bedrooms plus a small "in-laws" that just fitted a king sized bed. The patio with a BBQ grill and a firepit is a nice addition. We rate it highly and certainly want to come back.
My husband and I had a very small wedding reception in this home. We also stayed here for the rest of our honeymoon as well. It rained for three days and it was SO beautiful! There was a little creek flowing by the deck and we would sleep with the windows open at night to hear the rainfall. The kitchen was AMAZING! Great for family cooking in there. My mother stayed with us the first couple of nights and just loved the jacuzzi. The owners were great to work with. They sent us detailed instructions on how to get there, because the driveway is a little hard to find. They also sent us with a list of things to do in the area, which was very helpful due to this being our first trip to the redwoods. We loved our trip and our stay and hope to return sometime next year. They are also PET friendly. Our little doggy stayed with us for two nights!
Cozy private premises, my favorite part was the outdoors setting with BBQ porch area, deck and woodsy environment. The owners were very informative and so easy to work with, thank you! The only down side if any is that house is literally off the highway in a curvy area and up a steep driveway so you have to be very cautious with traffic. The house itself is very welcoming, it might seem crowded for a larger group but that adds to the opportunity of spending quality time away from home with good company.
Suzanne is amazing. She's such a responsive , hospitable host. She gave us wonderful, clear details about her home, which also included great spots to check out nearby. The house was such an ideal relaxation spot for all of us. It was me and 4 other friends, and we had plenty of space to have down time to read - and then spend time together. Everything about this place is so serene. We mostly cooked at the house, because we loved the outdoor table and then hopping in the hot tub. Definitely want to come back and spend a good week here. Very close to Santa Cruz and Big Basin Redwoods too. Perfect!
Other Activities: Old-growth redwood forests, Santa Cruz beaches & Boardwalk, Roaring Camp & Big Trees Narrow Gauge Railroad, wine tasting at spectacular wineries, hiking & hanging out on river beaches, Santa Cruz Mystery Spot! We love taking the Roaring Camp train to the SC Boardwalk (an ocean-side amusement park) in the summer.
Golf: Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club has outstanding golf with gorgeous Redwood forest mountain views
