Kristen and I have two daughters (Meredith, 2 and Juliet, 1). Both my wife and I were raised on Seneca Lake/Geneva and have numerous family members living in the Finger Lakes Region. Quaint lakeside cottage

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this property and in the area. The house was clean with a nice large fenced-in backyard with fire pit. The house easily accommodated four adults. The view of the lake from the dining area was beautiful! The beds and furniture were comfortable. I'd quickly stay at this location again (possibly bringing my two hounds), but I'd make sure to bring a few extra towels both for the bathroom and the kitchen as a few more hand towels would have been useful. Otherwise, a wonderful stay!

This place has such potential, it's just in dire need of some TLC.

The location was great; very quiet and only one boarding neighbor. Fortunately for us though, the neighboring cabin was not rented, because the access to the dock (and the dock itself) is shared between the two properties, and you have to walk into their backyard in order to access the steps down to the lake. It would have felt very intrusive if there were neighbors sitting on their deck each time we walked by. The property was nice; good sized yard and a nice set up for coffee in the morning on the deck and evening fires. The cabin itself felt old and run down though. There are many unfinished projects throughout. If we were staying at a family member's cabin free of charge, then I could understand dealing with the "under construction" appearance/feel, but the cabin is run as a business, and I feel should be presented as such. Also, I understand that this was a cabin in the woods, but there was an odor that just permeated everything. We needed to clean all of our clothes upon returning home, even if we hadn't worn them, in order to get rid of the smell. We also struggled with the air conditioner. It was just a window unit in the bedroom that wasn't big enough to keep the whole place cool. We would have gone without the air conditioner if we could have opened all of the windows, but many of them either couldn't be opened, or didn't have screens. We did have a good time in the Finger Lakes, so I hate to leave all negative comments. That being the case, we did LOVE that this cabin came with kayaks. We wanted to get out on the lake and, since the cabin provided the kayaks, we could do this on our own schedule, not on a rental place's schedule. We also enjoyed fishing off our own dock whenever we wanted. We will most certainly come back to the region, because we thoroughly enjoyed exploring all the local attractions, but next time we will probably look to stay elsewhere.

Enjoyment

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this pretty cottage! The view of Seneca Lake from the "high banks" of the cottage is AMAZING BEAUTIFUL! Would recommend to family & friends. Only reason we did not give it 5 stars is because of the condition of the propane grill, which needs it's flame deflectors replaced. We also spent 2 hours having to clean it, to get it ready for grilling. It is pet friendly & fenced in, which was great for our Pomeranian who travels with us, {we always do clean up the yard after him wherever we go,} but we did find that others did not do the same. We hope to return at another time.

** Dog Loving Lake Cottage **

  • 5 of 5

We love to go on a trip once a year where we can take our two big dogs. We have never been to the finger lakes and have heard wonderful things about it from several people so we thought we would check it out. I searched for a couple weeks to find as dog friendly as I could, allowing 2 dogs and fenced in yard. This cottage could not have been any better for us!

The owners have done a lot of work to make this a very updated place to stay, with the whole inside newly renovated. They keep a lot of the basics in the kitchen and supply fresh towels and sheets! There was a huge basket of dog toys which our two just kept pulling more and more toys out of to play with. The fenced in yard was the nicest feature for them to run around as we were sitting out by the fire pit.

Since this was the first time to the area we just explored and found things online to check out. There are so many state parks close by and a national forest about 30 minutes away. The national forest was really pretty and after a good hike with the dogs there are wineries just one after another to stop off at for a tasting.

Needless to say I can see us returning here in the near future!

Lovely, Comfortable Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We loved our relaxing stay at this Seneca Lake cottage. Explored Geneva, hiked at Watkins Glen and the Finger Lakes National Forest, visited many of the nearby wineries and enjoyed a glass of wine or two out on the cottage deck with its great view of the lake. Very quiet property with neighboring cottage on only one side. The cottage interior has a spacious, open floor plan with large windows to showcase spectacular sunsets. But it’s also cozy in the evenings. The up-to-date (wine fridge and dishwasher!) kitchen and the outdoor fire pit and grill were pleasant surprises. Getting to the shore, however, is difficult and not for the faint of heart. There are two steep staircases leading down to a small, pebbly shoreline and we couldn't quite figure out how to get the kayaks down there (or back up). All in all, it was a lovely property and we regretted leaving our dog at home as this property was very dog-friendly.

A Lovely Time at the Vinyard

  • 5 of 5

We had such a nice time at this property! We came in very late on a Friday night and we were very nervous about arriving in the dark... after reading the reviews about the property being" rustic." We drove through a corn field and arrived at a train track, we almost didn't drive any further, but of course we did! We came to a little house at the end of the road, owls hooting in the background, my intrigue pushed me forward. Nuts and acorns were falling from the trees and scared me to death, but I pushed on ;) I unlocked the lockbox for the key and was in the mud-room in a flash. It was a perfect room to leave our shoes and beach equipment. I opened the door to the cabin and was pleasantly surprised. With lovely wood floors and little perks like beautiful countertops and a panoramic view of the lake, I was very please to say the least. The best part was the fenced in yard for the dog, the amazing view of Geneva (even from the bathroom) , I didn't want to leave. The lake is a long way down from the house and don't forget your water-shoes/socks, but the workout was good for us. The only downside was the shared steps down to the dock, I felt like I was intruding on the other house's space. But I personally loved this particular property because the privacy it gave us! It was perfect for a romantic weekend, we even walked to the vineyards! Geneva has a lot to offer and we had a very special time, this property is a little gem (I almost don't want to share it). Thank you for a lovely, special weekend, I love this place!
