About Kate Wood, At Home in the Hudson River Valley
Kate Wood manages the property on behalf of owner (Kate's mother) Ethel Wood, who moved to Germantown in 2010 and rediscovered, in her words, the kind of warm community she hasn't felt since she was a girl growing up in Texas. Kate founded At Home in the Hudson Valley in 2014 to preserve and adaptively reuse buildings of character and significance in the historic Hudson Valley. Kate holds Master’s degrees in Historic Preservation and Urban Planning from Columbia University. She served more than 15 years as CEO of LANDMARK WEST!, the non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to preserving Manhattan’s Upper West Side (home to more than 3,500 landmark buildings). She is the co-author of Interior Landmarks: Treasures of New York (Monacelli Press, 2015). In 2007, Kate and her husband, David Sprouls (President of the New York School of Interior Design), rehabilitated their first Hudson Valley property, an abandoned circa-1890 house, where they now live part-time with their young son, Patrick. We are preservationists, historians, planners and designers who care, first and foremost, about the integrity of our environment and helping others appreciate and benefit from the authentic experience of place.

Why Kate Wood, At Home in the Hudson River Valley chose Germantown
As travelers ourselves, we love to make ourselves 'at home' in buildings, landscapes, neighborhoods, towns, and cities that possess a deep sense of place. We restored this farmhouse on the end of Germantown's Main Street as a pilot project to bring this concept to the Hudson Valley (our real home). By staying here, you immerse yourselves in the remarkable heritage of one of America's most historic, beautiful regions - majestic landscapes, walkable downtowns, small farms, world-class arts and culture - and contribute to its sustained vitality.

What a wonderful stay!
The house is ideally located in the center of the village but with enough space from the road and other houses. The house is so convenient for a large group of people and all the amenities are great with a plus on the quality of the comfortable mattresses in the rooms. We particularly enjoyed the fireplaces in the midst of winter! A great house for a great stay.
Our stay at the Germantown farmhouse was fabulous! It was the perfect spot for our annual knitting get together. The place is very clean, charming and well maintained. The beds and bedding far exceeded hotels. The weekend was perfect! Thank you Kate! We are looking forward to next year!
Great house with lovely furnishings in a cute town.
All good, clean and well appointed. We would definitely come again.
We loved our stay in Germantown! Kate was incredibly gracious and accommodating and the house suited us and our toddler. The house was clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We walked into the adorable town of Germantown and stopped at Otto's. Thank you to Kate for making our stay in Germantown so enjoyable!
It was our pleasure to have you! Thanks for being ideal guests. Please come back and visit!
Beautiful house, impeccably furnished, problem with the water
Kate’s house was perfect for five couples who were attending a wedding at the Southwood Estate in Germantown. The house is beautifully preserved and decorated. Kate was communicative and easy to deal with in the weeks leading up to our visit. Unfortunately, the water in the house has a foul sulfur odor. Guests should be warned that bathing is not a pleasant task, and it’s important to pick up a lot of bottled water before arriving (none is provided).
Thanks so much for the feedback. I’m very sorry to hear about the water situation. We just had the sulfur treatment system serviced and thought we had nipped the problem in the bud. Sulfur is a common issue in the Germantown area. It is not harmful to health, but you are correct that it can be unpleasant.
I wish you’d let me know about the problem during your stay. It turns out that the technician neglected to turn the sulfur treatment system back on! Fortunately, it was a simple fix so this won’t affect future guests, including you since we hope you’ll come back next time you visit the area.
The house is wonderful. Kate was so helpful and responsive. Perfect venue for our family hang out during our wedding weekend at Clermont.
