About The Owner

I am a painter and I have always made my living with my art. My husband is a jazz musician and architect.

We have always created interesting environments to include our friends and creative community from around the world.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2003

Why The Owner chose Perpignan Area

I once owned an art school in southern France and took my students to Collioure to paint because it is the most beautiful village on the Mediterranean [in my opinion].

What makes this apartment unique

I love the simple living of Collioure in that you can forget about your car and walk everywhere on the colorful streets filled with cafes, shops, and Mediterranean magic.

We grew up on the beach in California and we felt so safe next to the clear and calm Mediterranean Sea in Collioure. We liked that it is an aesthetically amazing environment that looks so perfect that you might think it is a stage set! Plus it is as romantic as all get out.

Great location in wonderful village

  • 2 of 5

I enjoyed my week in the 2nd story apartment belonging to the owner/artist. The location on the street of galleries is great but at the end of the street (20 feet from the apartment) is an elementary school which produces quite a bit of noise all day during school as the play ground faces the apartment.

A restaurant has also opened across the tiny street which generates noise until at least 11 at night. Since there is not air conditioning, you need to leave the windows open so it is noisy. Plus the street seems to lead to one of the major parking areas so they are groups of people walking by till at least midnight---they are just visiting but in that small space it feels as if they are in your room. Plus the motorcycle parking is at the end of the street and that was quite annoying---much revving of motors.

The apartment is cute---I slept on the day bed as the bedroom alcove was too claustrophobic for me---sort of a sleeping closet. The day bed was passable but not truly comfortable. The toilet bowl could use a good cleaning and the shower was disgusting with mold and a shower head held up with blue painter tape---so it usually fell on your head. There was hot water in the kitchen sink but the shower was hit and miss and never stayed constant.

It there are guests in the upper apartment, you will hear their every move---they were here for half my stay. The apartment looks just like the photos but the experience does not match the photos---noise from every direction.

Regular free music, dance, theater and art festivals in Collioure and nearby villages. Many castles and fortresses to explore. Colorful bi-weekly authentic French markets with wine, cheeses from the Pyrenees, spices, hand carved wood items and gourmet delights. Apartment is located on the most beautiful art street and two minutes walk to the Mediterranean beach voted one of the best 10 beaches in the world. Fifteen miles to the Spanish border and the Costa Brava. Great for winter ski vacations and hot springs in the nearby Pyrenee mountains.
