Menehune Shores is an oceanfront complex in a low density peaceful area of North Kihei, twenty minutes from the airport between Maalaea harbor and Wailea. Truly oceanfront, there is a protected swimming and snorkeling beach out front and the five mile long Sugar Beach extending from the property north to Maalaea, perfect for long morning and sunset walks. A heated pool and BBQ area are located in the tropically landscaped seaside grounds, and a rooftop BBQ and dining area provides stunning views of the ocean, Haleakala, the West Maui Mountains, Molokini, Kahoolawe, and Lanai. It is a great place to look for whales in the winter and relax and enjoy Maui’s breathtaking sunsets each evening.

The complex is located minutes away from shopping areas that will take care of all your vacation needs, and Monsoon Indian, an authentic Indian restaurant, sits ocean side on the ground floor of the complex. Can’t get closer to the water than this but the inside needs updating and cleaning.

Pros: The view was amazing. Enjoyed many sunsets from the Lanai. The protected beach area was perfect for my kids as it broke up the waves some. We snorkeled and saw sea turtles on several occasions. Pool was crystal clear and well maintained, building was clean and quiet. The kitchen was small but had everything we neeed to cook meals which was definitely a cost saver. There is a closet with so many things to use such as snorkel gear, fins, life vests, beach chairs, a cooler, backpack, and umbrellas. Cons: the beds are horrendous. It was like sleeping on a slab of plywood that was slanted toward the middle. Pillows are just as bad. I definitely would have enjoyed my trip more had I not woken up with a stiff neck and back every morning (I’m 36 and in very good physical shape). My kids even complained of springs in their mattresses poking them (and they are kids who are normally fine sleeping anywhere). The carpet needs to be replaced as it’s filthy and matted. Bed linens are also worn and cheap feeling. Some overall updating is needed- screens, toilet in second bathroom, furnishings, linens, beds.

Overall, we really enjoyed Maui and Kihei. This condo was close to the beach, shops, and restaurants. The trip would have been perfect if we were able to get restful sleep on nicer beds.

Great view! Pretty run down everything inside though.

Love the view. Who wouldn't! But the beds are bad, carpets are gross, shower doesn't drain, screens dilapidated. View, location 5 stars! Inside 1 star.

Perfect

We want to thank the owners of 414 Menehune Shores in Kihei for sharing their lovely condo.

Malinee Kruasing did everything to make us feel at home.

This condo is truly a home away from home. It is fully equipped and even has a cooler and all the toys so you can enjoy the beach.

We enjoyed sitting on the lani watching the sunset while enjoying our dinner and drinks.

When we come back we want the same unit.

Excellent with beautiful view!

The condo was excellent and had all amenities working including a big wide screen with cable. Internet was also available and everything was as advertised. The kitchen had every utensil you could ever need and gas barbecues were clean and working on the roof top.

The beach was protected and a good place to test snorkeling ability.

Others have mentioned the condo is a little dated, but for a 60s design it is well kept and clean.

There is a safeway and other grocery store nearby.

Kihei waterfront

Wonderful location, right on the water, and central to all things Maui. 3 generation family of 6 had a great time at this condo complex in Kihei. Patio is outstanding with perfect sunset views. Kitchen is well-equiped, and there are gas grills on both the ground level and the roof (recommended for sunset dinner prep.) Large Safeway within 1 mile for supplies/groceries. One "gotcha" was the 2nd bathroom shower had hot/cold water reversed, but otherwise OK.

Great Location and nice amenities

We stayed at this unit in August 2017. There were 5 of us (which included my three age 20+ children). The three bedroom unit was perfect size for us and we were very comfortable. The air conditioning is definitely needed in August and was a great addition to this unit. The unit also had a great supply of boogie boards, beach towels and beach toys to use which was very convenient. It was also well stocked with kitchen supplies. The beach was great and like other reviews, you can see turtles sitting on the beach wall every morning and they sleep on the ocean floor in the protected area (you have to watch where you walk or you could step on one.) It does get very windy there in the afternoon - so it is best to go out in the mornings when it is quiet and there is low tide. The unit is conveniently located to get to Wailea and Lahaina and also to get to and from the airport (just 20 minutes). I gave the unit 4 stars (would have given it 4.5) due to needing new bed linens (they are a bit worn and not great quality) but everything else was comfortable.
