Gorgeous Location and Very Peaceful!
We spent a week at the cottage and enjoyed every moment. It is the third cottage we have rented on the 'quiet side' of MDI and it is a gem! The home is well appointed and has everything you would need. It was a serene and quiet location with a gorgeous view from the back porch - one that we enjoyed during the day and at night while star gazing. The location and home are highly recommended.
Whatever I write won't do this property justice
The house is as advertised....clean, well stocked, private, quiet, cozy. The house has books, notes, tips, etc. on all things MDI and they come in handy. The best part of this property is by far the property itself. While you share a portion of the land with another house....you will never know it. Whether you are sitting on the deck enjoying the few or on the shore hunting for shells, rocks, etc. images and words won't do it justice. If you're looking for a Maine experience and want to avoid the busy areas of the island...this is your place.
Practically perfect in every way!
Our family of four (including two girls age 8 and 11 at the time) had the most perfect stay in the Bass’ property! The house was immaculate and the scene from the deck was to-die-for! However the thing I appreciated the most (being a very detailed, type A personality and elementary teacher) was all of the helpful directions, explanations and resources posted throughout the house. There literally was no question you couldn’t find the answer to without a little investigation. The owners also had left plenty of provisions in case we needed extra cleaners, soap, paper goods. The entire property was super-well maintained and clean with clear directions on how to leave things. The owners were very friendly and very quick to respond to any questions we had prior to our visit. They also were extremely prompt in sending our safety deposit back to us once our visit sadly came to an end. If you are considering staying on the quiet side, you should stay at this property (or the neighboring Bass property which looks amazing as well)! We have no regrets at all and hope to return some day soon!
Excellent view! Wonderful Rental!
What an awesome place! Pictures of the ground were completely accurate. House was even bigger than expected. We've stayed at quite a few VRBO homes before, but never one so well equipped. Felt like I was in my own home! We stayed a week, and wish we could have stayed longer! Had a great time biking the carriage trails, hiking the beehive trail, kayaking in the cove and just relaxing in the adirondacks admiring the scenery. Even saw a seal and Bald Eagle in the cove. Enjoyed going into Southwest Harbor - so much easier and laid back than Bar Harbor. But had to go into Bar Harbor for Mt Desert Ice Cream - a must! Thanks to Dede, who was so friendly and willing to provide suggestions. Thanks for the use of your wonderful Home! Will be back!
Beautiful waterfront home on the quiet side of MDI
This beautiful home was just perfect for our family of 5. The owners were a pleasure to deal with and always quick to respond to any questions. The house was very clean and well stocked with everything we could possibly need and more. We appreciated the basket of brochures, menus and recommendations for things to do in the area.
We stayed a week but could easily have stayed longer because there was just so much to do. We rented kayaks for the week and had them delivered right to the property. We loved exploring the cove in them and even saw a seal one evening! The kids walked the beach every day hunting for "treasures". Although we found ourselves driving to Bar Harbor every day it was an easy drive. After a long day it was always nice to escape the crowds and come back to our peaceful cove. We spent several nights on the deck just relaxing and enjoying the gorgeous view.
In addition to kayaking we spent our days hiking, biking the carriage roads, golfing, rock climbing and whale watching. It was a busy week but one of our best vacations yet! The kids keep asking when can we go back.
Thanks Dede and Charles for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home!
Super relaxing location and wonderful hosts!
My wife, son (19 mos.), and I all enjoyed our stay at the house. Charles and Dede were great hosts, going the extra mile to make my family feel welcomed (they even brought over a chair and rocker for my son!). They house was very nice, much bigger than we needed for a family of three, but we enjoyed the extra space. The property was huge and the waterfront was gorgeous! We spent more than few nights out on the beach with a camp fire. And did I mention the stars. You can't see the Milky Way stripe down here in Baltimore. Thank you again Charles and Dede for the wonderful experience. Tim, Kasia, and Nathan.
We are located minutes away from Acadia National Park, where hiking and biking are favorite activities of visitors. You will love vacationing here on the 'Quietside' of the Island - away from the hustle & bustle of Bar Harbor, yet in close proximity to excellent restaurants and all the activities of Mt. Desert Island. The Villages of Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Bar Harbor plus Acadia National Park's main entrance are a picturesque 10 to 25 minutes away by car. Located near the end of a private drive on well sheltered Goose Cove, our secluded 21 acres of land also provides plenty of opportunity for outdoor activities. We have 1,000 feet of private shore frontage with beach, ledges, and tidal pools for hours of exploring. Kayaks may be rented locally and launched easily from our beach. Although you may not want to leave beautiful Goose Cove, you'll want to venture out, as the site-seeing and recreational opportunities abound on Mount Desert Island. In Acadia National Park there are endless mountains and trails to hike or bike, museums to visit, whale or bird watching, first class shopping and dining to experience, and excellent fresh and salt water fishing. For the golfing enthusiasts, close by in Southwest Harbor is The Causeway Club, a fun and scenic 9 hole course. For a bigger golf challenge, you can play the famous 18-hole Kebo Valley Golf Club in Bar Harbor. After a full day of island adventure, come back to a peaceful setting to prepare fresh seafood for dinner in our well equiped kitchen and enjoy a beautiful sunset while relaxing on our large deck overlooking Goose Cove and Blue Hill Bay.
