We are an Australian couple who fell in love with Paris in 1975 and have returned regularly since then. Over the years we have come to enjoy and appreciate the 5th arrondissement as one of the areas of Paris that has retained a great community lifestyle and quality of life.
Paris Gourmand Apartments purchased this apartment in 2013
Our aim is to present a real Parisian experience in an apartment that has all the comforts of home. After years of renting other apartments in Paris we knew exactly what was required to make the perfect Parisian vacation apartment. With our combined experience in architecture and interior design, we were attracted by the size, efficiency of layout, quiet bedroom, and the stunning location right in the middle of one of the best neighbourhoods in Paris, on the Left Bank, adjacent to the Seine, directly opposite Ile St Louis.
The whole of the city of Paris is easily accessible from this central location.
You can explore all the highlights and fascinating layers of the city on foot, or use the excellent public transport (buses and metro) that serves this wonderful locality.
The apartment, 'Le Gourmand du Maubert', is located in the 5th arrondissement, on the Left Bank, just steps away from the river Seine, and opposite the Ile St Louis. Notre Dame Cathedral is barely a five minute walk from the front door.
The nearest metro station is Maubert Mutualité (Line 10), is a 5 minute stroll away, and there are a number of useful bus lines servicing the neighbourhood, making the entire city easily accessible.
As well as the riverside promenades along the Seine, the Jardin des Plantes and the Luxembourg Gardens, just a few minutes’ away, are also perfect places to relax. As the Boulevard St Germain is around the corner, a pleasant 10 minute stroll will take you to all the shopping delights of St Germain des Pres. You may decide to detour into the Musée de Cluny to see the remains of the Roman baths, explore the wonderful collection of medieval art and artifacts such as the exquisite ‘Lady and the Unicorn’ tapestries.
At Place Maubert, there is an excellent outdoor market held three mornings a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, grouped around the metro entrance. Here you will find the freshest farm produce and other gourmet delights from vendors selling anything from artisan honeys, sauces, mustard's and vinegars, to a selection of fresh and dried herbs from Provence. As well as this regular market, there are a number of wonderful food shops such as the fromagerie, said to be one of the best cheese shops in Paris, plus a butcher, a fishmonger, and a first class wine shop, while the long queues outside the patisserie is testament to their quality breads and pastries.
