News - Slice VI the poolside restaurant opens up on 2/1 aren't we fortunate?
Update # 5 1/11/18 Roads are improved over last month, more stores and restaurants open. No TV or landline still and no word when. But there's a working private hotspot in the condo. Beach was busy today. Slice at the pool has not yet reopened - more news on that when I have it. Ferries are running to St John on a regular schedule but check before planning any late night visits because last I heard the last boats run at 8 PM.
Update #4 12/18/17 I just returned from a very pleasant visit. Power was on and the property and beach have recovered nicely. Still no TV/Phone or web in the condo but check with me about the availability of a Wifi hotspot. My Sprint phone worked well enough, AT&T users were very happy. Slice VI, the poolside restaurant should open by Christmas, the Beach Bar is open, Red Hook is very much open. Road conditions improve daily. The St John National Park reopened last week. Skinny Legs in Coral Bay reopened yesterday. Please go and support island recovery! VI Strong!Update # 3 12/6 Power is on! I'm heading on down Friday to check things out.
Update # 2 - 11/28 @ 5 PM Great News - According to the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority Facebook Page - Electric Service will be restored to Sapphire Village by Dec 9
UPDATE #1 -**HURRICANE UPDATE** - First I'd like to thank all my past and future guests and friends for their concern these past few months. Secondly, EVERYTHING IS FINE. Both condos came through with nary a scratch. Some water did find it's way into both and there is some cosmetic damage but many were not as lucky. Many of you may have noticed the listing was unavailable for a spell and perhaps took this as a sign but this was only due to the fact that our subscriptions renew in the fall and the dearth of tourists gave us no reason to renew. Both units are occupied up until the end of the year by some people who lost their housing either within Sapphire Village or elsewhere on St Thomas. My family and friends are all safe, some have evacuated temporarily and all have life-altering stories to tell. Electric service is still being provided on a limited basis for just a few hours each day and many repairs are underway across the property. Generally, the upper-level buildings and units fared less favorably; the two buildings at the top of the hill sustaining roof damage. The rainfall has helped the landscape begin its recovery but it will take at least a year for the island to start looking lush and FEMA blue tarps will be visible for years to come. Electric service is expected to be restored by mid-November and once that happens I plan on going to make a personal assessment. Jackie and I have our reservations for early January we don't plan on making any changes. I had a rash of cancellations in both condos after the storm which was welcome and opened up both units for emergency housing needs. Currently, I have an 8-week slot that just opened up from mid-Jan-March in the studio due to a non-storm related cancellation. So to summarize - all is well - both units are available for rental - the calendars are up to date HOPE TO POST AN UPDATE BY DEC 1 ****
