We have lived here since we were married. It was Bruce's home place & we fell in love with the residents, the landscape, & the entire area. Bruce dairy-farmed untill he was called to the Army. When he returned he again farmed for a while. We started & raised our family. He was employed by a local business working swing shift .Lydia is an RN, full time employed except a few years when our boys were young. We thouroughly loved what we did . We were both in active PR jobs, used to meeting people. Now we enjoy meeting new people & helping them enjoy part of what enticed us to become owners of vacation rental.Bruce delights in talking of the local history & gives interesting tours of the area along with tid-bits of lore assocciated with Huntingdon County
Bruce or Lydia Lane purchased this chateau / country house in 1990
We purchased the farm from our mother so we could see others enjoy & treat our properity as their own. This home was on a land -grant from William Penn . Built in 1789 with many continuous renters & owners. Some added to it's beauty, some deterred from it. Now The Lane's Country Homestead stands as a historical beauty. Come & see . Anytime you wish to tour give us a call & if it is available, we will be glad to show it.We are very proud of what it has now become.
We meet such a variity of families, Living from different directions in the United States, from various localities & cultures. Most all the children are well behaved & we can imagine the family teaching, helping & enjoying them. Family means so much! We enjoy the early morning ritual of coffee, tea ,meditation, & guessing the weather for the day under our gazebo on the patio. We enjoy the farm fields, mowing grass & garden work. Our real fun time is riding our 4 wheelers up in the wooded areas.Bruce is estatic when it begins to snow.! He delights in hopping onto his tractor to plow the driveways clear.
My family had an amazing experience. There were great accommodations and outdoor activities. Both the lodge and homestead have a nice rustic feel which help you relax easily. I would suggust this for anyone who wants a mountain getaway and wants to spend quality time with friends and family!
We first were introduced to the Lane's Country Homestead in the mid 1990's. Once we got a taste of the peaceful relaxing country setting, we were hooked. We began scheduling annual trips that soon became our summer ending vacation. We also used the trip to invite others and host family reunions. We watched as they built their Pine Lodge with great anticipation of all fun we would have with family and friends. We have been treated to a vast array of wildlife, some welcome and some not, but always a story to tell. The property offers a great fully stocked pond, nine hole golf course, hiking trails, wagon rides, paddle boat on the pond, camp fires at night, photogenic setting, beautiful in-ground swimming pool, and two of the most accommodating hosts you could ask for, Bruce and Lydia Lane. The area offers Trough Creek State Park, and quick access to Raystown Lake at Tatman Run or Lake Raystown Resort. There is always something to do....but the part I enjoy the most is sitting on the front porch watching the day pass by.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the homestead in Aug 2011. We have a small ski boat and wanted to stay near Raystown Lake because we intended to spend most of the time at the lake. As the weather was a bit cool and dreary some days, we actually ended up spending more time than we thought at the homestead. My husband took my son for his first golf experience on the golf course on the property and they had a great time. We took walks, enjoyed the pool, fished at the pond, played horseshoes, had evening campfires, had dinner outside in the pavilon, sat on the porch and enjoyed some trail rides with the homeowner. It was great to sit as a family and play games in the evening and everyone had their own bedroom and space to relax and chill. Definitely a great relaxing getaway. We were also able to check out the lodge when there and hope that we can organize a large family get together...it was perfect for hosting a large group. If you are looking for a great place to get away to relax and get some quiet time...you won't be disappointed.
