About Joel

Hi, THIS IS ONE OF THE TOP COURTS ON THE BEACH AND AFTER MEETING SOME OF THE YEAR ROUND RESIDENTS DECIDED THIS WAS WHERE WE WANTED A SECOND HOME. (photo is of my wife Patti, Zoey our french bulldog and our grandkids on a day outing.) After ten years of ownership we still enjoy the beach life but find it harder to enjoy the Hideaway as it has become more popular and we have more returning guests!!! We strive to continue to make it a great destination we can all enjoy.

Joel purchased this condo in 2005

Why Joel chose San Diego County

This is the perfect getaway at the beach. Close to everything, yet a little privacy. That's why we call it the Hideaway.

What makes this condo unique

Just steps to the beach this unit offers a large patio, close to the bay and just a few minutes walk to Belmont Park for good eats. Good neighbors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Welcome to Jersey Court Hideaway. Just steps away from the

sand and ocean and just a short walk to the bay makes this a

perfect place to stay. Patti and I are recent new owners of the

Hideaway and this is truly our second home. We stay here when it

is not rented. Although the previous owners did a nice job of fixing

it up we've put our personal touch to the condo which should help

make your stay memorable. Whether you want the beach, sun on

the patio or the quiet of the condo it's all there. Please let us know

what we can do to enrich your vacation with us for your future

return trips. Joel and Patti

Great location!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time. It's a nice, clean and comfortable vacation rental. No complaints. Will definitely stay here again. The location is ideal. It's really close to the beach.

Perfect for what we needed

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for a friend's wedding. Started as a girls' weekend for 3, then one left and the husbands joined the 2 who remained. This little house had everything we needed. It was nice to have a second bathroom that was usable while the shower was being used. Kitchen had every gadget needed for us to cook at home, and the BBQ grill was super handy. Firewood was left for us in the little fire pit on the patio. Walking distance to the beach (having chairs and boogie boards at the house was a huge plus), and a short drive to everywhere else we wanted to be (Zoo, Old Town, and a few other longer day trips like LA).

The only down sides, and they aren't enough to keep me from coming back, are pretty fully disclosed in the other reviews - 1). The parking sucks. The spot is incredibly narrow. We rented a Hyundai Elantra and were never able to park in such a way that doors on both sides of the car could be opened at the same time. But we were prepared for that, and it was tolerable. When we got tired of driving it was easy to get an Uber here 2). Upstairs neighbors do make some noise. But! They were really friendly (always greeted us when we passed). And they were always quiet by 10-11ish at night, which I think is reasonable. We were only sleepy that early cause some from our group were East coasters who hadn't adapted to the time change yet. But the noise was never crazy or super late.

All in all, loved this place, got my deposit back promptly, and would definitely come back.

Relaxing weekend with daughters falls way short

  • 2 of 5

To be honest, the Hideaway itself is excellent. A few renters commented on the noisy neighbors upstairs but seemed to cut them some slack because they are college seniors. I too ignored these comments when booking this unit. Unfortunately my special weekend with my daughters (who are both expecting third babies) was spoiled by total exhaustion from lack of sleep. The first night was loud music, moving furniture and footsteps until midnight. But Friday night topped it with a party until 2am. Noise canceling headphones and ambisounds did nothing to mute the noise. I contacted the owners Saturday morning but unfortunately they did not receive my messages until Sunday. Saturday night was another party with another call placed to the owners. Three nights with minimal sleep.

On Sunday the owners contacted the upstairs owner and fortunately that had some affect so Sunday night was quiet. However we left for home Monday morning. Above all else, we wanted to rest since both of my daughters currently have 2 toddlers at home. The unit is exceptional: excellent location, small parking space but we rented a small car, lovely patio, comfortable beds, beach chairs (no beach towels), well equipped kitchen. It appears the noise issue has been occurring for many months but if the owners are not contacted, they can't do much about it. Perhaps better insulation of the ceilings might help but it's obvious the students pay no attention to any noise ordinance. For the amount I paid for this unit I expected peace and quiet. We enjoyed the beach, San Diego zoo and a Padres game during our days but came home exhausted. If you are considering this unit as a rental, be aware that YOU may have to take hands-on measures to assure your own peace and tranquility. The movie Animal House was funny but not when it's happening directly above you.

Spring Break Vacation

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I took our 2 teenage daughters to San Diego for 1 last family vacation before they head off to college. Overall we enjoyed our time at the Hideaway. The location is perfect. It is no more than a 2 minute walk to the beach. There were plenty of beach toys, chairs, etc. Parking is very tight, which we knew was going to be the case. That's why I rented a small car. The keyless entry was very convenient and easy to use, especially with the 4 of us coming and going to and from the beach at different times. The house was the perfect size for us. The back bedroom has 2 queen size beds, the other bedroom has 1 queen bed. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets were clean and of very good quality. It was a huge plus to have the washer & dryer but there was no laundry soap. There was no soap for the dishwasher either but there's a great Ralph's grocery store about 1 mile down the road.

The down side was problem we had with ants. As we were putting our groceries away I opened a drawer and there were tons of ants in it. I took everything out, cleaned the crumbs out and sprayed with ant spray that I found under the sink. Unfortunately, we continued to find ants in the kitchen. We had to keep all of our food in the refrigerator. I did call the owners and they responded right away. (Unfortunately I had a problem with my phone and did not get their message. But that was not their problem). We just decided it wasn't that big of a deal because we didn't see the ants anywhere else. However, a deep cleaning of the kitchen would probably help.

Our deposit was refunded very timely and overall we enjoyed our stay.

Great property!

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay in the condo! It has everything you would need for a great stay (keyless entry, dishwasher, 2 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, cable and wifi, beach towels and toys, etc). It's just a few steps to the beach and about 5 mins (walking) to Belmont Park. The outside area would be perfect to relax and BBQ, but it was too cold and rainy when we went. The parking space in the back would have been great (but our SUV was too big), so we parked on the street. We usually found a space on the street, but I could see it being tough in high season months. As someone mentioned, the college kids upstairs are a bit loud at times but it didn't really bother me (music and footsteps). Overall great property and would definitely stay again!

Great location! Comfortable accommodations.

  • 4 of 5

This was a great location for our family. Close to the beach - 2 minute walk, lots of restaurants in the area. Only about 15 to 20 minute drive to Old Town, San Diego Zoo, USS Midway, and La Jolla. Our family really enjoyed our time at the Hide Away. While the parking is a little tight, for us it was totally worth having a place to park the Kia Sorento that we had rented. It was so much nicer than being in a hotel room - loved having a condo.
