About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Daybed, Sleeps 5, 1 Bath (minimum 30 night rental)

AVAILABLE FOR 30+ NIGHT RENTALS, we have a classic 1930s beach cottage with an uncluttered interior, beautiful light, incredible views and an inviting deck. It's a great place to unwind with friends or just a special loved one. It's perfect for two couples as there's a bedroom and living area on each of its two floors. But it's also a wonderful place for families, with lots of room to play inside and out.

The cottage has an open floor plan and casual furnishings. In addition to a bedroom, the first floor has an open kitchen, eating, and living area that opens out onto a large deck overlooking the water. A second bedroom with dressing room and a spacious living area comprise the second floor. The upstairs living area also has a daybed which can be used for a fifth guest.

The bathroom has a rainfall shower head and pebble shower floor. When the temperature dips, a wood stove provides warmth and adds to the charm. The cottage is also completely winterized and has a heating system, so it's warm and cozy in the winter months.

Walking and biking are favorite past times. Sailing, wind-surfing, golf, fishing, and bird watching are other popular activities. Make sure not to miss a trip to Marnick's, a venerable seaside diner just down the way, for ice cream and family meals.

The cottage is located only minutes off of interstate I-95, and is quickly accessible from Stamford to New Haven. Local train service from Stratford and Bridgeport to New York, Stamford, and New Haven is easily accessible.

Why The Owner chose Stratford

We bought a home in historic Lordship, a peninsula at the southern tip of Stratford, because of the beauty of the area and its convenient location. Lordship is truly an undiscovered gem with its old homes, tree-shaded streets and great spirit of community. We feel fortunate to have such an easily accessible retreat from the hustle and bustle of Southwestern Connecticut.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The only thing I can think of after leaving Nancy's house in Stratford is: when can we go back? We stayed there for a month and everything was absolutely fantastic and worked really well. The house is beautiful and restful. Tastefully decorated , yet with a toddler family needs. Washing machine , dishwasher and LEG . The beach outside with all the shells and stones. Lordship is relaxed and pleasant and secure. Nancy and Matt are fantastic hosts. Helpful and fast. Responded quickly to all my questions. It is just as incredible as everyone else wrote. Do not hesitate. Go there .

Fantastic Stay in Lordship, CT

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful cottage right on the water! The architectural design of this place is something I have never seen before, just gorgeous and very well laid out. The place was so clean and neat when we arrived. I have been to many cottages in this area, and this is now my absolute favorite. Planning to go again next year! No clutter and a fully stocked kitchen & BBQ Grill that came in very handy. We stayed for the month of July and had beautiful breezes right off the ocean every day. There are amazing views from downstairs and upstairs in this home. The area is so quiet and family friendly, loved all the neighbors on this street. Nancy and Matt are so accommodating, and sweet! I will definitely rent from them again next summer!

Just Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

I can hardly describe the peace, and fun we all had during our stay at this wonderful house. So practical, easy, clean and the water right there on our feet, literally. During the day, we spent most of the time on the beach, enjoying the sun, soft breze, and nice people arround. During the night, the reflections of the moon on the water taking advantage of the small but cute deck. We had a blast, thank you Nancy and Mathew!!!!!!!

Lordship private beach

  • 5 of 5

Lordship is a great area and the cottage is very nice. The bathroom is great and the deck is even better. We slept so well listening to the waves. It felt like we were on a houseboat. It is clean and the owners were very helpful. The neighbors are friendly and great restaurants within walking distance on water and seawall. We love this area and have rented cottages here before but never had one right on the water. We recommend cottage to all who love the water and beach. So relaxing on deck.

Very Relaxing...

  • 5 of 5

The property is maintained, very clean and exactly as pictured. The owners were very pleasant to deal with and always answered our emails. Our security deposit was returned within a week of our checkout. We enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the water flow underneath us. The entire house is very open and the views from each level of the house are amazing. If you enjoy cooking, the kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, bowls, knives, cutting boards, serving spoons, plates, glasses, forks, etc...and the kitchen sink is huge. Because of the nice breeze that flows through the cottage, the pilot light on the stove sometimes goes out so you have to light it. The only appliances missing are a microwave and coffee maker...we made due without a microwave but did bring our own coffee maker. The local Shoprite is about a 15 minute drive from the cottage. Bring some extension cords because there are not many electrical outlets but WiFi was always working :-)! Our children enjoyed boating, fishing, using a waverunner, walking to Marnicks for ice cream, swimming in the Sound, and playing golf. We would certainly recommend this property to anyone who likes sitting on a quiet beach, hanging with family and friends, and appreciates a small town atmosphere.

Owner's Response: We're delighted our guests enjoyed the house! Just wanted to note that we have plenty of extension cords on hand and do keep a large French Press Pot for making coffee.

Amazing Place

  • 5 of 5

"Who knew this was here?!” was the most common response from local friends and family who came to visit while I was vacationing for two weeks in this spectacular home on the quiet, secluded beaches of Stratford, Connecticut …

Visiting from Los Angeles, I chose the spot for it’s central location between NYC and my family in CT. The home is immaculately clean, exquisitely decorated and the perfect spot for relaxing, kayaking, biking, running, and entertaining small groups of friends. Sunny days on the deck, falling asleep to the sound of the ocean, and even stormy days made for a good excuse to get cozy and light a fire.

The homeowners, Nancy and Matt, are so nice and easy to work with – even from across the country. And, the house is equipped with everything you may need, including Internet, grill and a French press for coffee (a personal favorite).

The restaurants within walking distance aren’t that great, but OK places to grab a a bite, a drink or socialize bit. If you’re looking for a big nightlife, this isn’t your spot, but if you’re interested in peaceful, serene relaxation time with friends & family, it’s perfect.
