Kailua-Kona, with its great restaurants, shopping and summer/winter activities, is one of the most beautiful, fun places on the Big Island of Hawaii. This comfortable 1-bedroom, 1-bath top floor oceanview vacation rental condo is located in the oceanfront Kona Isle complex on Alii Drive, a 2-minute drive (10-minute walk) from the heart of historic downtown. The photos are of the actual unit and complex. In the condo complex, there are beach chairs in sand, barbeque pits, coconut trees and a swimming pool right in front of the ocean.

Inside the condo, guests have a comfortable Queen bed in the bedroom and a Full pull-out couch in the living room. The unit has a walk-in kitchen including a large new refrigerator, 4 burner electric stove and oven, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee machine, dishes, pots, pans and everything you might need to cook meals. There is a DVD/VCR, a stereo w/ CD player, 3 fans, linens, towels, blankets, iron & ironing board, a 4-person dining table, dressor, 3 closets and a spacious open-air lanai with patio furniture and view of the both the ocean and mountains (coffee plantations). There's a full-size bathroom with bathtub & shower. There is a washer & dryer in the unit (travel size) and garbage disposal. The condo is decorated tastefully with original oil paintings and a small library of books and movies. Free WiFi is in the unit and also in the large library of the complex. A deeded parking spot is included. We have a newer Air Conditioning unit.

We have professional cleaning done after every stay. However, as the photos show, our unit is not updated and has some older furniture. If you're looking for a high-end stay and everything to be new, modern and in perfect condition, there are other units in Kona better for you, and we prefer you to rent those. At our condo, we generally offer better prices than other units, and our guests appreciate the money they save with us--especially since we are at one of the best condo complexes on the island.

PLEASE NOTE, if you rent this unit, we need a filled out and signed (digital or wet) rental agreement, and a copy of your picture ID, in order for you to get into the condo, so please email those in with payment. We do not allow renters in the unit without sending in those things property. Please note, we do not refund money (and allow people to block dates) just because they failed to get us the agreement and picture ID. This property is everything we expected. 50 yards from the ocean and the waves crashing on the rocks are just what we were looking for. Clean and comfortable with everything needed

Beautiful property, right on the beach.

Absolutely beautiful property. Beautiful view. Accommodating owner. The condo was very spacious, adequate kitchen and bathroom with a tub, washer and dryer were great, though small. The bed was not to my liking, when my husband and I both laid on it, we rolled to the middle. Not very supportive or comfortable. If you have a bad back, I would recommend you stay away, lack of sleep can ruin a holiday. And no Coqui frogs. Don't forget to ask about coqui frogs. Janet G

Owner's Response: Dear future guests, As I mentioned to this reviewer, about 97% of the guests that have stayed with us have either enjoyed the bed or not complained about it. Naturally, a small percentage won't like it--as there are anomalies in all things. One thing is for sure though, it's totally ridiculous to leave a poor 2-star review when you otherwise enjoyed the unit, the courtesy of the owner, and the property.

BIG disappointment! Not factually represented; pictures not related to condo unit.

Unfortunately, our first experience through VRBO was a huge disappointment! The condo unit was extremely dirty, even though the owner said he had carpet cleaned. The light fixtures were filled with bugs. blinds and slats missing, torn, grimy with dirt. The bathroom was not even the one in the pictures. Tub and shower rusted and heavy with crud! Same in the kitchen. Cushions on couch were dirty, worn, rips and tears with stuffing coming out. Mattresses were stained and torn. Linens were thin, frayed and worn out. Really, the entire unit was a disaster and long overdue for an upgrade and replacement of everything. Hopefully this will keep someone else from our experience. We have pictures and documentation of what the unit was actually like as well as witnesses that were staying at Kona Isle.

Owner's Response: Dear prospective guests This person that stayed with us claims that the pictures of the unit aren't real. That's totally wrong and an outright lie. I took the pictures myself in the unit and loaded them on VRBO. This person claims that bathroom picture wasn't the same one in the unit. This is not true at all. We have never had a bathroom picture on VRBO of our unit (feel free to call VRBO to confirm this). I suspect this person is mixing up the different units they must've looked at. But it's terrible they are attacking the credibility of the owner and the pictures of the unit with outright lies. I assure you, these are the actual photos of the unit Kona Isle B32. The last time I received a bad review, I wrote back a nice message explaining that our place was dated, and I tried to explain that we offer lower prices to make up for the fact our unit hasn't been through a remodel yet. However, this time, I don't care to be so polite (especially when they lie about the pictures not being related to the condo unit). I would like to remphasize what I said in my ad: If you're a high end person looking for a high end stay, please do not stay with us. That is clearly stated in our ad and description. We have a nice, fun, comfortable place that the majority of our guests enjoy--and our location is superb. Our place is professionally cleaned after every stay, so it's not dirty. Our unit is, however, aged. Those guests that want new ovens, new shower tiles, new blinds, and new cabinets won't get it here. This is hawaii, and we are low key mahalo owners, with a condo unit that is a few decades old. Some things like our fridge and air condition are indeed new, but other things like our furniture and fans are not. We are working on getting a new couch, and we are sorry there are some rips in it. We also have brand new linens, and we get them every year as policy. In our closet, there are multiple other linens too to choose from. Our pictures of the unit are the same ones we've had up for a few years. They show very well the condition the unit is in--aged but cute, and in a fantastic location. If you desire more, please find that unit, and stay there. Otherwise, stay with us, keep the aloha in your spirit, and enjoy the islands.

Great location, Condo very run down

This was the most I've spent on a place to stay that was more than just a weekend get away. We booked 10 nights. The location is fantastic as far as being right on the water, the grounds are very well kept, the condo itself is in desperate need of some tlc, the couch has rips all over the fabric, not to mention stains, stains on the carpet, there were no batteries in the smoke detector, the dishes all had food stuck to them from the last guest, the non stick pans had big scratches all over them, the cabinets in the kitchen were not clean inside or out. The fridge was very clean, and newer. There wasn't really anything besides salt and pepper and some brown sugar (that was all hard).....not even coffee filters. I've stayed at a handful of VRBO type vacation rentals, they all had staple items, like oil, some condiments, foil, saran wrap, etc. When we received our welcome letter after booking, two things stood out to me, first, the owner mentioned feel free to bring your own bed sheets, um, what....there isn't going to be decent bed sheets??? He also mentioned to please be careful of our use of the air conditioning, as it's very expensive, um really???? I was instantly disappointed that I had booked this, but since there were no refunds, we were pretty much stuck. I was surprised that all the existing reviews were so good, I felt it necessary to give a more genuine review. Again, the location is great, there is a full kitchen, but it's so dirty, and the pots and pans are in such bad shape (way worse than my camping pots & pans) that we didn't really want to cook there.

Owner's Response: Dear prospective guests, Our unit is professionally cleaned after each guest by reputable cleaners, and we frequently clean the carpets. On occassion there are little issues that escape the cleaning people's attention, for which we are sorry about. We also stock basic supplies, regularly check fire alarms, do special Spring cleanings. I know my unit is not an updated unit, and that the furniture is somewhat old, as the photos honestly show. So if you like to stay in high end places where where everything is new and perfect, I suggest looking for a different unit. We are working on getting newer furniture soon, like a new couch. However, all things considered, our rental prices are better than our neighbors--with the same great ocean view and in the same amazing complex--and that's the value you get by staying with us. And the great majority of guests are happy with that value. It's true we don't always provide all the kitchen condiments you might need, but there is a convenience store directly next door to buy most anything you want. And finally, yes, we do welcome you to bring your own bed linens. However, of course, we also provide that stuff. In fact, we get new linens every year as policy. And yes, we suggest that you don't use the AC if you don't need it. The big Island has the highest electric prices in the nation. I think that's fair. I'm not a hotel chain owner. I'm just a guy with a young family and a cute condo in Hawaii. Thanks!

Great stay

The condo was my home for the last three months until I moved into my own condo up the street. It was everything I needed and the oceanfront seating area was perfect with a nice glass of wine - nice breeze, waves crashing (or not) and great sunsets. The pool was perfect for cooling off on those hot days. The unit is clean and efficient. Ali'i Drive is great for walking, running and easy access to downtown Kona. The owner was great to work with and I enjoyed my time there.

Excellent choice

My husband, 2 young kids and I stayed in this condo for 2 weeks and we loved every day of it. The condo was very clean and had everything we needed. We loved the fact that there is was not too much furniture and ornaments, with young child we were not worried they would break something and it gave us a lot of space to play with them. The air bed and washer+dryer were realy convenient for us. The people at the complex were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Gorgeous sunset every night, perfect pool, great location, and communication with the owner super fast and efficient: A 5 stars, warm recommendation!
