About the property

Apartment 32 m2, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

YOUR HOME ON THE ILE ST LOUIS

Situated in the heart of Paris, on the unique island of the Ile St Louis, this is a charming 32 m2 duplex. Located in a quiet street, next to the river Seine, Quai d’Orleans, a few minutes from the Cathedral of Notre Dame, it is surrounded by the very special village atmosphere of the island, with its tiny streets full of little boutiques, bistros and typical Parisian cafes. You are also in walking distance from several open air markets, St Germain des Près, the Luxembourg gardens, the Marais, Place des Vosges, the Louvre and everything romantic Paris can offer you.

This lovely duplex is in a beautiful 17th century “Hotel Particulaire”

The ground floor consists of a living, dining area, with the original beams and a separate kitchen. Decorated with taste, it is fully furnished with a sofa, armchair, a dining table that can sit 4, internet WI FI, HD TV with 150 channels and a fully equipped modern kitchen.

On the first floor you have a large bedroom with a queen size bed, plenty of cupboard space and a bathroom with a bathtub, shower, toilet and sink. All rooms have windows.

Being a 17th century listed building, the ceilings and walls aren't always straight and you can have beams in an akward place, like the one running though the back of the bathroom. You do have to watch your head on that one ! But that is all part of the charm of being in the oldest part of Paris.

The size of the apartment is 32 sq mts, just to clarify most of the photos have been taken with a wide angle lens.

If, after spending a day walking around and discovering Paris you feel like having a quiet evening at home, just round the corner you’ve got some of the best little cheese, wine, vegetable, fruit and bakery shops in Paris, as well as a wonderful butcher.

You’ll feel completely at home in this warm, comfortable atmosphere, which is ideally situated for 2 adults wanting to spend a special holiday “ a la Parisienne”…..

About Nishu

Hello future friends, the left bank of Paris has always been home and I would love crossing the bridge to 'The Island', to take my son to play in the sandpit of the Notre Dame gardens, have some delicious Berthillon ice-cream, and lovely romantic dinners.... I never dreamt that one day I'd have a 'pied a terre' here!! If, like me, you love special places this is definitely one of them... so I wish you welcome to 'The Island' and hope you have many happy moments here........Nishu

Ile St. Louis is absolutely the best place to stay in Paris

  • 5 of 5

We've been using VRBO for years and all the apartments have their own personality and this one did not disappoint. We had everything we needed for our stay and you cannot get a better location than on the island. Marc showed us everything and was very gracious after having to wait for us after a 2 1/2 hour delay arriving at DeGaulle. We don't spend a lot of time in the apartments so we can't comment on the kitchen etc but we were very comfortable. I would only mention the headroom in the bath/shower which is a little challenging. We would defiantly recommend Nishu's apartment to a anyone wanting to stay in that great neighborhood on the island

Great location

  • 4 of 5

This very well-positioned apartment is tiny but very functional, and the furniture and fittings are very good. It has everything you need and the location is fantastic. The tiny bathroom has a great shower and a bath along with very low (i.e. headbanging level) ceilings in some areas. As the apartment is ground level and right on the street front, the window and curtains need to be kept closed for security and privacy. The shutters must also be closed much of the time, which can make the living space very dark.

Nishu, the host, is helpful and communicative. She offers flexible check in and out times in her advertising but unfortunately, she is let down by her Paris managing agent. The earliest possible check-in time the agent could manage for us was 4.30 pm, which is not acceptable when you are paying so much for use of an apartment. We have stayed in many other apartments and this is the latest check-in time we have encountered. When you enter the apartment there is quite a strong musty smell which suggests that the agent needs to attend to this cleaning problem.

very small/quaint accommodation fantastic location

  • 3 of 5

Great location and comfortable bed. Unfortunately, the bathroom has some issues. I was not able to stand up straight to use the toilet. There is a very low structure directly above the toilet that inhibits a man to stand up straight and use the facility. I was also not able to stand up straight in the shower. I am 6'3" and there was NO mention of these issues in the information about the rental. Another issue we had was that the bedroom window faces the street and (unbeknownst to us) garbage removal occurs almost daily and the loud maneuvering of garbage cans around 5 or 6am every day, woke us up. This too, was NOT mentioned in the rental information. The property was clean and well maintained and there was a folder of very useful information for us to use. Great bakery, general store and restaurants within a few minutes walk. Really a beautiful location. Sad to give only 3 stars.

Owner's Response: As this is a 17th century, listed building in the oldest part of Paris, there is always somewhere where you could bump your head and the walls and ceilings aren't straight ..... but that is what an authentic centuries old building on the Ile St Lous, Paris is like. It is also part of the charm. It's impossible to compare to big spacious, modern californian homes. I'm sorry that the big beam in the back of the bathroom came as a surprise but happy that you were able to enjoy one the most fabulous locations .... where people from all over the world throng to see but don't always get a chance to actually stay. Thanks, Nishu

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

The absolute best thing about this apartment is the location, which could not be more perfect! The Ile St Louis is at the very heart of Paris, easy to access the Left Bank, the Right Bank, public transit, etc. We were there for two weeks. There are numerous wonderful restaurants and cafes nearby -- we had a couple of wonderful meals at Sorza, around the corner; a wonderful cassoulet at the place just on the corner; and some delightful light meals at the St. Regis. Also several great fromageries and boulangeries within a block or two.

The apt. is small but very workable for one or two people -- small living room downstairs and bedroom upstairs. Kitchen small but there's no need for more, since who's planning to cook while in Paris anyway?! There is even a small washing machine, which we used several times. Unfortunately Nishu and her apt. manager were both out of town when we were there, so there was no one to fix the sofa, which was broken and not really usable. We made do with the chairs, which was fine., and she assured us that the sofa would be repaired or replaced promptly after our stay.

The bed is comfortable, the windows are great, the location can't be beat!

Awesome!!

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED the location of Nishu's apartment. Very easy access to everything in Paris either by foot or on metro. The apartment was lovely and very comfortable. We enjoyed sleeping with the windows open at night and drifting off to sleep hearing the sounds from the nearby waterfront. The apartment was well stocked with everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable. Everything was clean and the apartment was light and bright. Marc met us at the apartment right on time as planned and was very helpful getting us oriented. We would definitely stay there again if available when we come back to Paris. The only thing we thought could use some improvement were the pillows - they seemed rather worn out. Also, if you like a washcloth bring your own - we were given towels but no washcloths. Maybe washcloths are not as popular with Europeans?? Anyway - lovely apartment and area and Nishu was awesome at getting back with us quickly when we made the reservations and answering all of our questions before we traveled to France. She even called mid trip to make sure we were getting along OK. Highly recommend this property!

Ile St. Louis, the quiet village in the heart of Paris

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I chose this apartment because of its location, and the great communication with Nishu who made every effort to make our stay as comfortable as possible. When I had questions during our two week stay, I emailed her and she responded promptly by phone or text. Marc, who works for Nishu, met us at the apartment when we arrived and came to say goodbye when we left. He kindly called a taxi for us. Again, a wonderful, personal touch that was greatly appreciated.

We quickly felt very comfortable in this apartment and called it home as we established a routine of sorts. The apartment is cozy, the kitchen well-supplied (no oven, but who really wants to cook that seriously in Paris?) and includes a washing machine (no dryer, but everything dried quickly on hangers in the bathroom), great wifi and easy access TV to keep up with the local and world news. And the bed is extremely comfortable. I agree with all of the other reviews I read, so I suggest you read them. The sofa was not as comfortable as we would have liked.

The location was perfect for us. The boulangerie, where I went early every morning for a fresh baguette or croissants, was right around the corner, as were Nicolas, the great wine store chain, the fromagerie, butcher and small grocery store. And the Seine is a few steps away at the end of the street. There we sat on the quay to watch the sun set behind Notre Dame and the distant Eiffel Tower as we drank our wine. I got to know the shop owners and a few neighbors who walked their dogs. Metro stops are short walks away on either side of the river. Shopping in the Marais is a little farther via ancient streets. Check out BHV across from Hotel de Ville. It's the most amazing department store.

Would we stay here again? Absolutely! We have so much more to explore.
