About Bruce Carter
The owners Curtis and his wife Kathy: My grandparent's, Ernest and Leona Delano, bought the place in 1965 and went about converting it into beachfront vacation rentals. I used to come down to Florida and visit them. My father, an air force fighter pilot, went off to Vietnam so I lived here while he was away. I met my wife Kathy at college in Gainesville. We moved to Denver, raise 2 boys and always came back every year to relax in this very special place. In 1996 my grandparents retired and we decided the Sun n Fun was too nice to part with so we bought it to keep it in the family for the next generation to enjoy.
Bruce Carter purchased this Cottage in 1996
Why Bruce Carter chose Pinellas County
As you can see from the photo, good memories are made here. Both our boys are now married and when we can we fly down from Denver and stay a week or two. My oldest son Aaron proposed to his wife on the beach and of course it decided to rain so they came in soaked to the bone. We can go on and on about the fun we have. Always a treat.
What makes this Cottage unique
Location, location , location. My grandparent's chose well. This part of the island is so narrow you can throw a stone from the Gulf and hit the Bay. We get the best of both world's. The sun rises on the boats cruising up and down the channel. And in the evening we get the deepest red sunsets into the Gulf that folks write home about.

Relaxing Location with Beautiful Views
This trip will go down as one of our most treasured memories. For my husband and I, it brought back memories of staying at an original beach house at the Jersey shore. This vintage beach house was old, but clean (it was in need of some repair). However, the amenities were great: BEAUTIFUL VIEW, plenty of beach chairs, washer/dryer use, family friendly, kayaks available, staff on site daily, walk to town (but outside of the hustle and bustle)... But most importantly, being steps from the beach made this trip a contender of one of our most relaxing vacations ever.
Old Florida at its worst - worn, beat up and not charming
Stayed in apt. 4 for a week. Fab location on the beach. Upstairs apt. Carpet on stairway dirty and worn. Greeted at top of stairs by a fake metal palm tree covered in gray dust, a hint of what is inside the apt. Inside, laminate plank flooring is chipped, and there are holes in the walls from people hitting w the furniture and bathroom door, w plastic furniture glides stuck to the walls. Most window screens are missing, chunks of wood fell out of the wood window frames because they are rotted, two of the three windows that open had to be propped open (used a shoe and a hairbrush). Bedroom window opens onto the deck from the other upstairs apartment. In main room, wall next to stove has a large scorched area, ancient microwave has a rusty door, newer fridge and it was clean. No dishwasher. Only one bulb works in the light over the sink. Tiny table in kitchen is only place to put anything (there is no chest or dresser in bedroom) and its surface stayed sticky to the touch even after washing it daily. Old fake rattan, sagging couch and chair with stained upholstery complete the decor. Pole lamp with only one bulb is only lamp in the room. TV is on a dresser next to the couch so you can't sit on the couch and watch it. Supplies for a week consisted of a bottle of dishwashing soap and two dishtowels plus a sponge/scrubber and a roll of paper towels. Bathroom w sink and commode had a piece of old recycled linoleum for flooring. Cigarette burns on the windowsill. Faucet is missing the aerator so water sprays all over. Shower in a separate room across the hall. Bath towels were white and clean. Three old, threadbare beach towels, one with unidentified stains. Double bed in bedroom, linens were white and clean. No storage except a freestanding closet with a 24" bar and some hangers. Tiny room & space heater at foot of bed blocks only path to walk. Pictures on the walls were cheap when they were bought 30 years ago; now the colors are washed out from the sun and some of the pictures have stains on them. Beach chairs are newish and nice. The apartments are nonsmoking but the property is not. We enjoy "old Florida" and have stayed up and down IRB for yrs. This was the worst accommodation ever. No maintenance is performed on anything. Complained to the manager who responded he had "other upscale rentals available." We suspect the owner will rent this place until it falls apart then sell the land for a fortune to some developer.
Quaint, quiet and simple but with an amazing view.
Simple accommodations that haven't been updated in a couple of decades but it was quaint, quiet and had an amazing view with close access to the beach. Fortunately, we had terrific weather and were able to open the windows and enjoy a nice breeze with a constant view of the beach and beautiful sunsets at dusk.
We absolutely loved the view. The bed was very comfortable and it was quiet. The place definitely needs a deep clean and some fixing up. The blinds do not fit the windows and one blind you couldn’t raise or close - we had to block the window with paper towels. We found dirty dishes in the cupboards and some were actually still wet. It’s a shame because this place could be “the place” to stay with a little work and cleaning.
Can't beat the view from #4
LOVED leaving the windows open and listening to the waves from the second floor #4. That said, it needs a deep clean and update on blinds, windows (only 4 out of 9 open) and living room light/fan. Ours was broken and not replaced during our 4 night stay. There was a corner light and stand-up fan, but lacking. No on-site manager, so if you have an issue when no-one is there, which was a lot of the time, it didn't get addressed until the following day. Wished the outer door to the building had a lock at night, not just our door.
We loved this beach property and can't wait for our next visit!
We enjoyed our time staying in unit 4. My husband, myself and our 8 and 4 year old kids stayed here and it was perfect for us. The unit was clean, comfortable and a few steps from the beach. There was a nice area of kids sand toys and a few boogie boards to use as well as kayaks I believe. We left a bunch of our beach toys when we left so I imagine other people do as well so you don't need to bring much. The only thing that might make the stay a little more comfortable would be to have a few more beach towels for guests to use and there are no spices of any sort to use to cook (not even salt or pepper!). A roll of tinfoil, plastic wrap and some ziploc baggies would have been so nice to have and a cheap thing to keep stocked in the units. Other than that we enjoyed every second of our stay! Can't wait to come back next year!
You will be vacationing on the closest beach to Tampa airport while also secluded from the vacation crowds. We are located in 'The Narrows', so named by the local settlers of the 1920's because the barrier island is so skinny here that there is only room for a single row of homes. The emerald green waters of the Gulf are out your front door and and yachts cruising the channel are out your back door. Water surrounds you like no where else with fantastic tropical views and a true island feeling. Our many repeat guests tell us that this is the most coveted spot on the 12 miles of world class beaches between Clearwater and St Petersburg.
