Overview

About the property

2 BR's, 2 BA's, bunk beds in den, sleeps 7; Optional Guest House w/BA sleeps 2

This beautiful, spacious, redwood cottage sits on incredible Island Lake about 2 miles out side of the unincorporated community of Orange Springs. Set on a perfect, private lake lot, the property consists of the large main house, a spacious guest house, carport, dock, boat house, and patio. Great lake views, old live oak trees with Spanish moss, and a lake breeze describe this picturesque environment. Completely renovated in 2011, this marvelous retreat has a large kitchen with gas range; dining, living, and family rooms overlooking the lake; new baths; laundry facilities; well-appointed furnishings; and more. The main house sleeps 7. If you rent the optional guest house (2 persons), the property can accommodate a total of 9. The dock is terrific for fishing and the lake is great for swimming. 80 feet of shoreline awaits you. There is a canoe, charcoal grill, picnic table, and fire pit for relaxing outdoors.

As well, I have 2 other lake houses nearby if this one seems too large.

The property sits ideally between the cities of Ocala, Gainesville, and Palatka, each with its own distinct character. Ocala is home to:

Elegant Horse Country and Farms

National Ocala National Forest

Silver Springs Park is located

Central Florida Community College

Gainesville is home to:

The University of Florida

Santa Fe Community College

Shans University Hospital

The Veterans Hospital

Palatka is home to:

The St. Johns River

Fun Restaurants on the water

Closeness to East Coast Beaches

OTHER LAKE OPTIONS: Check out my two other lakefront properties on the next lake over. These other 2 are next door to each other on separate acres. Ideal to rent just one cottage or for a large family gathering by leasing both. Listing/ Property IDs: 127321 and 117133.

About Edward Wynne

My family has owned property around this area since the late 1940's, and my ancestors came to Florida in 1845, when it was still a territory. It became at state 1848. After extenisve renovations and infrastructure upgrades, I began renting our other 2 lake homes in 2004. I wanted others to enjoy this part of Florida as I did growing up. I have a wonderful local staff that works to ensure that guests are satisfied.

Edward Wynne purchased this house in 2011

Why Edward Wynne chose Florida

I bought this property in 2011 because Island Lake is a stunning body of water. It is THE real natural Florida. Spectacular views, privacy, wooded lot, and no traffic or crowds.

Family & friends Spring Break 2017

  • 5 of 5

We were most pleased to see the improvements from our previous time there in Summer 2015

its exactly what the doctor ordered for a get away and appreciate life before summer starts, and we go nuts with our kids at home. Everything was clean and what we needed was there.

Weather could not be better. We will be there again at the end of this year God willing.

I would like to make a simple suggestion about the water, there are some inexpensive purification systems out there that are pretty good taking out the bacteria and odor. I would even chip in to get it for next time. Other than that, no complaints out of our group.

We felt at home.

Best Wishes to all,

Giraldo Family & The Zapata Clan

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind and deserving feedback. We work very hard to make the lake place a wonderful respite from every day life. With regard to the water, it is perfect and has been tested by Culligan and the State. The suffer smell is natural and comes from the Florida's natural springs. Installing a water purification system would not improve the water; it would release the suffer mineral into the air, but would be a waste of money. Enjoy and come again. Ed Wynne

Great time in a nice place

  • 5 of 5

We spent a couple of nights in this house and had a great time. We had fires, grilled out, caught fish, relaxed, and enjoyed it. The house has plenty of room and beds. We also went to a Gator game which was only 45 mins away. Will stay here again.

Beautiful Weekend, Beautiful Place !!!

  • 5 of 5

We like to occasionally get away from the work life monotony and stress of big cities , and a couple of years ago we were invited to this special place. This is the third time we visit the lake house and every time our stay is better and happier, great location in the middle of a perfect natural environment, surrounded by tranquility in front of the beautiful lake. . It is a nice house fully equipped with everything needed for a relaxing holiday or vacation. The rooms are spacious as are the bathrooms also very modern. we really like the way the owner keeps the house, looks new, the rooms the bathrooms, kitchen and everything super clean, tidiness inside and outside the house makes it very attractive.

Saturday we went Mountain biking to Santos park in Ocala lees than 30 min drive, very close , and at night the perfect place was the fire pit where we met to talk in a cool evening, lit only by the stars.

And Sunday, sunny day perfect for canoing , excellent therapy to disconnect from everything that stresses you. We love it.

Definitely we had a great weekend and we will return. I recommend this beautiful house on the lake 100%

simply stunning

  • 5 of 5

What can we say, simply stunning!! The lakehouse was incredible. Even better than we expected. We had our Easter weekend getway there. It was stunning. The lakehouse was even bigger and nicer than we thought. Ed (the owner) was awsm. We used the firepit each nite (loved hotdog and smores over the fire), we love the grill and totally loved the "John" row boat. We used it each day. Love to do basic fishing and my hubby was so thrilled to catch a (little fish) the 1st day. One day we drive to Crescent Beach. It was a little drive but what a beautiful beach. We just wished the weather was a little friendlier. Thx Ed and Wanda (ur property mngr) for making our getaway wonderful! We will be back. - Denise and Chuck Kirkpatrick (Palmetto, GA) March 2016

This beautiful and natural lake region lies near the Ocala National Forest. This delightful rural area sits in a perfect triangle between Ocala, Palatka, and Gainesville, Florida. Minutes from the west side of the Ocala National Forest, one can explore the Ocklawaha River, numerous springs, the St. John's River, etc. Hiking the forest, fishing, and swimming are other cost free activities. Plus, it is 55 minutes to the east coast beaches. There is much to do in the area's rivers, lakes, and springs. ******* Also, check out my other two Homeaway listings # 127321 and # 117133.
