HI! I AM 49 AND HAVE BEEN LIVING IN THE MARAIS DISTRICT OF PARIS FOR THE PAST .... 39 YEARS.
AFTER LIVING HERE 'FULL TIME' FOR TEN YEARS, MY FRIEND AND I NOW SPLIT OUR TIME BETWEEN PARIS AND OUR COUNTRYSIDE HOUSE.
THAT'S WHY WE HAVE DECIDED TO SHARE THIS PLACE WE ADORE WITH VISITORS.
Brigitte purchased this apartment in 1960
THE MARAIS DISTRICT IS A CHARMING TYPICAL AND VERY LIVELY PLACE, WALKING DISTANCE FROM MOST MONUMENTS AND MUSEUMS. JUST IDEALLY LOCATED FOR TOURISTS.
ALTHOUGH RECENTLY RENOVATED, WE HAVE ON PURPOSE DECIDED TO KEEP ANTIQUE FURNITURE FROM MY GRAND PARENTS WEDDING IN THE EARLY 30'S, AS WEEL AS ANCIENT TILES AND WALLPAPERS WE LIKE.
WE REALLY ENJOY SHARING THE PLACE WITH VISITORS, HOPING THEY CAN FEEL AT HOME, JUST LIKE REAL PARISIANS.
CITYLIFE-SIDE: RESTAURANTS AND BARS OF COURSE, BUT ALSO SHOPS AND MARKETS FOR EVERYDAY AND FOR THE SHOPPING-ADDICTS THE FAMOUS BAZAR DE L'HOTEL DE VILLE (DPT STORE) AND THE FASHION BOUTIQUES DOWN RUE DES FRANCS BOURGEOIS, OPENED EVEN EN SUNDAYS.. NOT TO TALK ABOUT THE HUGE 'LES HALLES' MALL WITH ITS SHOPS, RESTAURANTS, CINEMAS AND SWIMMING POOL...
ON TOURISTIC -SIDE: MUSEUMS (CARNAVALET, PICASSO, GEORGES POMPIDOU MODERN ART...) WALKING DISTANCE FOR NOTRE DAME, BASTILLE, BEAUBOURG PLACE DES VOSGES, QUARTIER LATIN AND AT 15 MN WITH THE SUBWAY FROM THE LOUVRE AND 30 MN FROM THE CHAMPS ELSEES.
C'était vraiment génial. Un magnifique appartement dans un très beau quartier, près de tout et sécuritaire! Notre hôtesse fut très accueillante et elle nous a guidé sur plusieurs aspects de notre séjour. Je vous le recommande fortement!
Our stay in Brigittes apartment was for the month of September and within a few days we felt as if we belonged there. The welcome was very warm and Brigitte gave us all the information we needed in terms of settling in, plus a few suggestions of where to go for food, drink, entertainment, etc. The apartment itself was a delight and for the first few days I was sending photos of lampshades & furniture to friends who love the style. It is a testament to Brigitte's love for the place, as well, that she is willing to share it with others, and we are so grateful for that, and for the weekly clean which added to our holiday mode. While being on the second floor, access was quite easy and just made arriving at the apartment door all the more appreciated. We loved the location and in particular we enjoyed the lazy Sunday afternoons lounging around, windows open, listening to the jazz being played by the buskers down the street.
Some small suggestions for making your holiday enjoyable:
eating ice cream at the Place de Vosges,
using the Paris buses instead of the metro - you see more than you would on a tour bus and you only need a metro/bus ticket
Brigitte's fabulous plum jam - if we could have only bought some home with us.
Lunch at Camilles on the Rue de Franc Bourgeois - some of the nicest waiters in town
Tapas at Caves Saint-Gilles - don't arrive too early - though it is interesting to see them setting up the place for the evening
Buffy Bandito - the sweetest tempered and cutest dog that sits on the opposite side of the street, beside the church door.
So thank you again Brigitte. Our month was way too short so I'm sure we will be back to stay.
This was a perfect stay in a fantastic apartment in a perfect location. Our hostess, Brigitte, was really nice and terrific to work with. Everything about the apartment was as described and in fact it exceeded our expectations. I would stay here again and recommend it highly!
We stayed 2 adults and 3 teenagers and enjoyed the superb position of this appartment. We actually did walk to all major attractions, and the nabourhood is everything you ever wanted for a holiday, with plenty of life (but not too much) during the day and great shopping just outside the front door,
Bridgitte was the perfect host, and everything was as promised
My husband, teen sons, and myself stayed in this lovely apartment for three nights. Brigitte was responsive to my emails/questions throughout the booking process. The previous guests left very early so Brigitte had the apartment clean and ready for us upon our arrival (which was a few hours earlier than advertised check-in time.) We appreciated her flexibility. Brigitte showed us around, explained how things worked, and provided a very helpful guest info book with extra copies of maps of the neighborhood markets, restaurants, public transportation, etc. The area is clean and safe with lots of restaurants, shops and walking distance to many “tourist” sites. Rather than to repeat the other comments…here are just a few that might be helpful. In Europe there is often not space for both a washer and dryer (like in the U.S.) We were thrilled that the washing machine and spin cycle worked great and the raised drying rack over the shower ensured our clothes dried quickly. The weather was pleasant in the 70’s but it was nice that there are shades to pull down to keep the unit cool during warmer days since there is no AC. We were completely comfortable during our stay and it is nice that two floor fans are also provided. Wi-fi worked great. The bedrooms face an inner courtyard (not the street) so it was quiet with windows open at night. There is a beautiful church across the street from the apartment living and dining areas providing a unique view. The church bell rings from 8AM-10PM but it never bothered us when we were sleeping. There is no balcony but there are tall windows that fully open enabling you to feel like you are enjoying the outdoors and fresh air. We pulled our chairs in front of the window and enjoyed some wine watching the full moon over the dome of the church a couple of nights – pretty spectacular! The payment/security deposit process is different than what I am used to with other VRBO rentals, however, I want to assure future guests that Brigitte is completely trustworthy and an excellent hostess who truly wants to ensure a wonderful experience for her guests (thanks for arranging for the taxi to take us to the airport. We appreciated the opportunity to stay in such a historic older building and enjoy the antique furnishings of Brigitte’s grandparents. Yes, the wood floors are squeaky but that added to the character and old-world charm of this home. Thank you Brigitte for sharing your home. We would love to come back one day!
We were two couples who had a wonderful stay in Brigitte's apartment. She was extremely helpful, factual, organised and a wealth of information. The apartment is just gorgeous and we were grateful to be able to stay in amongst such lovely possessions. The only slight comment we would have is the other couple slept on the bed against the wall and felt it dipped in the middle. Maybe it was two single beds put together and possibly best left as singles but this would not take away from staying here again.
I was at first a bit tentative about the security deposit required but for anyone considering this apartment I would like to assure you that it is perfectly fine.
Brigitte, we had an incredible time in Paris! We truly enjoyed our stay at your apartment. From the hardwood floors to the very comfortable seating area and then to the very comfortable beds, we were always relaxed and well-rested after our busy days! We felt at home and loved the surrounding neighborhood. You are a lovely woman and you were so helpful from the moment we arrived to even after our stay when you assisted us when my wife lost a piece of jewelry. We thank you for being such a lovely host and cannot wait till we return to Paris and stay with you once again!
