Chic and sophisticated garden apartment in a lovely home in the center of JP, as Jamaica Plain is called. Our green space is very green this year - the Emerald Necklace surrounds JP - and this part of Boston has open studios, farmer's markets, lots of great music, numbers of breweries and cafes, the best museums and schools nearby, the city Zoo, and terrific public transportation either by bus or train. We are lucky to be surrounded by beautiful land and great neighbors. On a quiet residential dead-end street just one block from Jamaica Pond, which we can see, and a mile's walk through town to Harvard's Arnold Arboretum. This pretty apartment has a bed-sitting room, a fully equipped kitchen and bath, a separate dining room, large entrance hall, and separate entry. It is fully furnished and suitable for one person or a couple. No seniors with disabilities, no children, no pets. There are stairs to it and within it. Immaculate and fun! Boston proper, as it's called, is easily reached using the 39 bus line a block away, and or via two nearby subway stops [Green Street less than 3/4 mile; Stony Brook about a mile]. 10 minutes from some of the best schools, hospitals and museums in the world, as well as downtown Boston and sailing on the lovely Charles River. The Bruins, the Patriots, the Red Sox and, of course, the ocean and even the Zoo very close by. Colleges and universities like BU, BC, Northeastern, Harvard, and many others abound so, if you are a student or have college-aged children , it is a great spot for interviewing, visiting and celebrating. Bike, walk or jog the Emerald Necklace, sail, kayak or row in Jamaica Pond, hike in the many nearby natural areas, and enjoy the rich history and active art and music scene this part of Boston enjoys. We are rated the best area in Boston in which to live! On-street free parking. Owners reside on the premises and have a garden to which you have access unless they are in residence. Please note that there is no smoking of any sort and there is a limit of two people [one queen-sized bed].
Travellers and art lovers, we grew up in the country and love the city! We garden lots and volunteer at historic properties in town.
Alexandra Rollins, Gordon Upton purchased this apartment in 1998
Trained as an architect, my husband wanted a bungalow! Our last house was an 1806 beauty on the Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island - my choice - so it was his turn and it's perfect!
We love feeling as though the city is very far away - even though by car it is 5 or 10 minutes. Known for its diversity, this area is extraordinary for its parks and amenities, its restaurants and coffee shops, a brewery, the rich history and richer cultural assets, and quick public transportation to downtown Boston and a short drive with good public parking [and expensive parking garages]. We have a lovely, big garden, as do all of our neighbors. Accessing highways is quick and simple; there is tons of shopping, of course; and an amazingly rich music, art, theater and dance scene. Beaches on the bays or the ocean are quite close and we often go to Maine, New Hampshire, the Cape and Rhode Island just to hang out, do chores, and see friends and family.
My husband and I stayed at the Nest for our one-year anniversary trip to Boston. We so enjoyed the convenient location to the Green St. station, the ice cream at JP Licks, nightly walks down to Jamaica Pond to read or walk along the trail, and the kind hospitality of Alexandra and Gordon. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found that it was close to places like Whole Foods and Wegmans, but also had a small town feel with cute boutiques and cafes lining Centre St. If you're looking for a great experience just outside the bustle of Boston, this is the place to stay! We also enjoyed the free on-street parking since most places in Boston require you to pay for overnight parking. But we didn't have to use it much throughout the week since we rode the T into Boston and walked everywhere else. I highly recommend staying here :)
We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to friends and family visiting Jamaica Plain.
This totally met our needs as a place to stay while we were in Jamaica Plain for a wedding. It's small but it has everything you need, and the location in downtown JP and near the pond is perfect. It's a basement apartment, so if stairs are hard for you, be advised about that (somehow we missed the memo).
My wife and I spent five memorable days at this lovely studio garden apartment. This is really the perfect location for a quiet and relaxed holiday. It has easy for access to the town of Jamaica Plains, bus services and the T is within walking distance with direct service into Boston.
Alexandra and Gordon were the perfect hosts and helped us with planning our visits to the main tourist attractions in Boston.
The studio was spotlessly clean and laid out with great taste. It was very well equipped and was stocked with some food to start our holiday.
We would highly recommend this studio.
The nest was exactly that, a cosy spot to relax and stay. Both Alexandra and Gordon were pleasant and welcoming. Being in the basement kept us cool in the 90 degree weather.
The size was that of a small effiency apt. If that is enough space for the visitor they should be quite comfortable
Very adorable basement apartment - clean, well furnished, decorated and stocked with everything we needed, including extra food staples & supplies we may have forgotten. Perfect size for two people - separate dining area, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom were cozy but not crowded. The owners were very kind and welcoming - they wished me luck in the Boston Marathon, and allowed us to leave our bags past check out time because our flight was later in the day. Jamaica Plain is a cute neighborhood with great food options. Jamaica Pond is right next door and provided a great location for a morning run. The Orange T line is convenient and we were downtown within 15 minutes.
Jamaica Plain is a self contained town within the city of Boston. It is surrounded by the amazing and lovely Emerald Necklace, a linked series of parks that includes ponds, an arboretum, a zoo, a golf course, many tennis courts, and other amenities. JP is well-loved by those who live here and visitors for its richness: diversity, food, accessibility, architecture, green space, biking, dogs, music. It's the chic place to live in the region.
