Check us out on Facebook -The Lookout of Antietam Battlefield

The Lookout' is a fully furnished cottage with a convenient back deck that provides a rare panoramic view of Antietam battlefield. Looking beyond the pastoral battlefield provides one a spectacular 50-mile view extending to the mountains of Western Maryland. Between the awesome sunsets and the abundant wildlife (deer, hummingbirds, hawks, etc.), a perfect place for relaxation.

Conveniently located approximately 70 miles from downtown DC and Baltimore. Less than 25 miles from Frederick and Hagerstown.

“The Lookout” is surrounded by civil war history. While only 10 minutes from Antietam battlefield, several other battlefields are within easy driving distance: South Mountain battlefields - 10 miles, Monocacy battlefield - 25 miles, Harpers Ferry - 15 miles, Gettysburg - 45 miles (retrace Lee’s retreat thru Williamsport). John Brown’s headquarters is less than 10 miles away.

Use Gathland State Park as a starting point for some day hiking on the Appalachian Trail - 6 miles away. Or drive 10 miles over to the C&O canal for some easy hiking or if you bring your bikes – some relaxing bike riding. Either method is a great way to have some fun outdoors - even get some exercise.

Other activities: Gettysburg, Harpers Ferry, Outlet shopping in Hagerstown, antique stores, museums, restaurants - all close by and easy to get to.

Excellent Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We (4 adults, 1 toddler) had a lovely time staying here. The views are amazing, the location is great, close enough to so many sites - Harpers Ferry, the battlefields, etc, yet out in the countryside to have a private feel. Brian and Sandy were great to communicate with, extremely responsive and very helpful. The house itself was very comfortable and well stocked. I highly recommend this cabin!

Loved the lookout. View was amazing, everything needed was there. Very relaxing. Enjoyed the ping pong table and information book. Nutters ice cream is the best. Close to Harper's Ferry, Washington Mounument in Boonesboro, and battlefield. Thanks hope to come again!

Wonderful time

  • 5 of 5

The moment I contacted Sandy about renting the Lookout the experience was wonderful. Sandy and Brian are very hospitable and really make their guest a top priority. The house is a great home away from home. It was the perfect place for my parents and I during our vacation as we traveled around the area. The sunsets are amazing and the house is very homey and relaxing. I didn't want to leave and will definitely be back.

Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

From my initial contact with Sandy and Brian regarding renting The Lookout, I knew we had found an ideal vacation spot. Sandy and Brian are such thoughtful and hospitable hosts; the enjoyment and comfort of their guests is clearly a priority. The house itself was immaculate with everything we could possibly need, and immediately felt like "home." During our stay, nature treated us to many beautiful sunsets enjoyed from the deck; each one different than the evening before. We visited both Antietam (the CD tour provided by Sandy and Brian was wonderful), and Harpers Ferry twice, did some local antiquing, and highly recommend a trip to the Boonsboro Museum of History. Only open on Sunday afternoons in the summer, we spent a solid couple of hours with the proprietor, Mr. Bast, who has a most extensive, personal collection of Civil War relics and memorabilia as well as antique firearms, china and glassware, and artifacts from ancient civilizations around the world. Our visit with Mr. Bast was a definite highlight of our trip. Only two things were lacking during our stay at The Lookout ~ WiFi, (which wasn't a big issue, since we just went to the local library several times to "check in") and more time to enjoy the house and all the area has to offer. Thank you, Sandy and Brian, for providing your guests a lovely place to stay while exploring a most critical time period in our nation's history.

lovely view, comfortable house, great weekend

My family and I had a great time renting this home. It was particularly fun for my 2 year old daughter who loved watching the sun set from the deck. Sandy and Brian had wonderful suggestions for area attractions and we loved our stay. Would return.

The place was just breath taking....watching the sun rise and set--PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!

A MUST STAY IN MARYLAND.....if you seek tranquility and peace, this is the place to refresh from the hustle and bustle of the city lights. Sandy and Brian were great host that go out of their way to make you comfortable and welcomed.
