Welcome to our little piece of paradise, a well-appointed and comfortable condominium we purchased in 2011 and completely refurnished. Welcome to hale kohala on the beautiful Kohala coast on the Kona side of the Big Island of Hawaii!
Whether you wish to simply relax by one of the pools, walk on the beach, seek the adventure of hiking near molten lava, or shop for a memento of your tropical escape at the nearby King's and Queen's shops, hale kohala is the perfect location from which to base your Big Island visit.
hale kohala is located on the Big Island of Hawaii, about 20 miles north of the Kona International Airport, in the Kolea luxury subdivision of the Waikoloa Beach Resort.
Only steps away...
A rarity among lodging options on the volcanic terrain of the Big Island, hale kohala is literally only steps away from the sandy beach of Anaeho'omalu Bay or 'A Bay.' At A Bay, you can relax on the beach (along with the sea turtles), take a dip in 'bath tub warm' turquoise waters, and even explore 'life under the sea' by snorkeling or, for those who would rather stay dry, via a glass bottom boat tour. Whale watching, sunset cruises and other options for enjoying this idyllic location are also available directly from A Bay.
Guests of hale kohala also enjoy access to the Kolea Beach Club Pavilion, located between hale kohala and A Bay. Offering an infinity-edge pool, hot tub made from volcanic rocks, shaded seating complete with chaise lounges, and even a shallow sand-bottomed pool for children, this community center provides the perfect place to enjoy the Big Island's consistently sunny weather.
There's no need to choose between enjoying a beach day or relaxing poolside; you can have both in the very same day at hale kohala.
Only minutes away...
hale kohala is located within the Waikoloa Beach Resort. Thus, you can enjoy peaceful luxury and direct beach access at your 'home-away-from-home,' while simultaneously not sacrificing the conveniences of shopping, grocery stores and restaurants -- a distinct advantage when you want to quickly freshen up your mai tai or enjoy a late evening ice cream (indulgences not readily accessible on most parts of this largely undeveloped island). In this regard, high-end retail is located at the Kings' Shops and a variety of family-friendly shopping is easily accessible at the Queens Marketplace. Finally, also only minutes away (and still within the Waikoloa Beach Resort) are the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa and the Hilton Waikoloa Village (as well as all these five-star resorts have to offer, including world-class golf courses).
Your gateway to the rest of the Big Island...
A host of exhilarating opportunities await you on the Big Island. Hapuna Beach -- consistently ranked as one of the top ten beaches on Earth -- with its soft, white sands is only ten minutes away by car. Black and green sand beaches also await you, along with near limitless diving, snorkeling, and swimming.
Hikes on terrain ranging from dry, hot lava rocks to tropical range forests, and everything in between are available. Volcanoes National Park is always a popular destination. Of course, if hiking along 18 holes in the ground is your thing, a host of courses await.
Even Helicopter tours and ziplining are available.
No matter your interest, the myriad of offerings on the Big Island is sure to satisfy it.

After years of visiting the Big Island, we finally pulled the trigger. We feel we know what visitors to the Big Island look for in a vacation rental (having rented many vacation homes on this island) and we did our best to ensure hale kohala will represent the best possible 'home-away-from-home' for our guests.
The Owner purchased this condo in 2011
This beautiful home is located in a safe and wonderful oceanside community. Our stay was so great...starting with the initial contact with the owners. This unit is like having two master suites...so everyone feels wrapped in luxury. The pool and beach make this experience come together as an amazing package.
My husband and I spend 9 nights at this lovely villa. The master bed was so comfortable, I wanted to take it home with me.
The villa is very close to the pool and beach, perfectly located! The grounds were kept very clean and very well maintained.
We loved the shops, restaurants and golf courses, all within walking distance! We rented paddleboards at A Bay. The beach doesn't have waves, but it is great for snorkeling. There are great beaches nearby for body surfing.
The perfect vacation, we can't wait to go back!
The place was perfect for me, my husband and our 21 month old daughter. It was beautiful, clean, quiet, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed for a day at the pool/beach. We ate all of our meals on the lanai & spent evenings relaxing there after our daughter was in bed. With the supermarket in the Queen's Marketplace nearby, we were able to pick up food and grill outside. The easy access to the pool/beach were ideal since we didn't have to walk far with our little one. Mark, the owner, was very gracious and checked in to see if we needed anything throughout the stay. We will definitely go back. :)
We thoroughly enjoyed our ten day stay at Hale Kohala. The whole Kolea resort is beautiful, new and very conveniently located within Waikoloa - close to the beach and shops. The unit itself is very clean and modernly furnished. Being on the ground floor was great for our 6 year old daughter since she had an extended lanai to play in. It is also very close to the club house where the pool is. The kitchen is fully stacked - we made ample use of the barbecue on the lanai, there are beach chairs and boogie boards, even books and games in the living room bookcase. So just bring clothes and have a great time.
To top it all off, Mark could not have been any nicer. He responded promptly to all our emails and calls and also had some great advice about what to do on the Big Island. This was our tenth trip to Hawaii, first on the Big Island, and I can safely say it was the best in terms of accommodations. We can't wait to go back!
besides being a lovely condo with lots of space, the best part about this property is its proximity to the pools and beach. we have two small children, and it was such a luxury to be able to walk only a few hundred feet to the pool (great kids' wading pool!) and the beach beyond that. no lugging all the pool/beach gear way across a large property.
The Kolea is an absolutely wonderful place to relax, and this condo located within 1 minute of walking to the pool, which is very convenient. We also were very pleased with the owner: it was very easy to deal with him: friendly and helpful.
