Is the Windwood House right for you? You can expect a peaceful, calm retreat in this private home. We have a few vacant, wooded lots to the left and right of the home so you don't often see a neighbor. Yet we're also located right on Highway 98 for easy access to everything you may want to explore. This is a single unit home - meaning you have the entire home to yourself. No upstairs or downstairs neighbors like in a condo. The shore is just steps away and we don't often have people walk by. Windwood is located in a small, quaint town. No hustle and bustle. No loud, touristy, commercialized attractions. Though there's a grocery store just 5 minutes away, the nearest Walmart is 40 minutes from the house. You can count on beautiful nature and friendly people. Our beach is small, quaint, and calm with gorgeous tall pines right to the shore. It is well protected by a sandbar, offering sea creatures a protected area. We often see horseshoe crabs, blue crabs, tons of fish, lots of birds like egrets and ospreys and an eagle if you're lucky, dolphins, and sharks. Thanks to our sandbar, we have calm water and a flat, narrow shoreline. Our guests enjoy kayaking, fishing, and swimming right behind the house. We love hearing how amazing the fishing is - guest after guest has told us how great it is right at the house. Though the water is clean, the nearby river gives it a "brackish" tint, and it isn't crystal clear like a swimming pool.
This home offers gorgeous views, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two balconies, a nicely appointed kitchen, flat screen televisions in all bedrooms and beach access just steps from the house. Also, there are large beaches with big waves and big sand dunes within a 15 or 20 minute drive (Carrabelle Beach, St. George Island).
The living room and every bedroom has an amazing view of the water!
The first floor features a well-appointed kitchen with all the necessities for cooking. We’ve stocked all the basics you’ll need such as pots and pans, silverware, knife block, plates, glasses and more. There is a microwave, toaster, a range (stove/oven), refrigerator, dishwasher, blender, powered hand mixer, a Keurig, and a regular coffee maker.
The living room directly adjoins the kitchen and has a pull out couch, love seat, flat screen smart TV (Netflix is included!), and has a wonderful balcony. There is also a small dining table here that can seat 6 (spare chairs are kept in the 1st floor bedroom to avoid cluttering the living room).
The third bedroom is also on the first floor and has a very comfortable queen size bed, flat screen TV, Blu-Ray player with Netflix and Pandora, and windows overlooking the water.
Also on the first floor is a full bathroom with a modern vanity and tub/shower.
On the second floor you’ll find the master bedroom is nicely appointed with a comfy queen bed, private balcony, flat screen TV, Blu-Ray player with Netflix and Pandora, spacious closet and a workstation. Plus, if you’re traveling with a baby, this room has enough space to easily fit a pack and play. In fact I easily fit 2 pack and plays in here for my twins!
Also on the second floor is the second bedroom which has two twin beds (that can easily slide together if a couple would like to use this room), and a flat screen TV.
The second floor bathroom is nicely appointed with a modern vanity and tub/shower.
The ground level features a spacious deck with a picnic table, propane grill, and Adirondack chairs that are lightweight and can be carried to the shore. **Please note: due to Hurricane Michael, the wood deck has been washed away. Contractors are very backed up helping those with urgent needs and it may be another 8 weeks or so until this can be rebuilt. Until then, we have converted the carport to a lovely deck and added a hammock, extra lighting, and some cute decor. We are sure you'll enjoy it just as much!**
There is parking in the front yard of the house.
The region is famous for outstanding fishing-from protected bays, to the open Gulf waters, to the winding rivers of Carrabelle, Apalachicola and Panacea. Just 35 minutes away is the town of Apalachicola which is famous for their oysters and Florida's Seafood Festival held every November.
