In 1934, Al and Gladys Pierce bought the Neskowin Inn and campground. At the Inn, Gladys did all the cooking for as many as 34 guests. Room and meals cost $3-5/day (single) or $3.75-6.50/day (double). She also managed the campground, just across Hawk Creek from this house, never turning anyone away. For campers' convenience, she provided a large pleasant kitchen with an enormous stove along one side, and tables and booths by screened windows where families could eat together.
Though the Inn and campground are long gone, the essence of Gladys's hospitality lives on in this house. It rests in a sheltered place, right along Hawk Creek; a snug house, it can be opened for ocean breezes in the summer, while providing a warm, comfortable, well-insulated place for watching the famed winter storms. Much of the large backyard is fenced for privacy, while still allowing an easy walk out of the yard onto the beach access. Being close to Hawk Creek Cafe and the general store means you only need to take a short walk in the morning to get a newspaper, pick up a cup of coffee, or eat breakfast.
When Gladys built this house in the mid-1950s as her personal home, she often invited her niece to come for vacations at the beach. Her niece invited the mother of the current owners. She fell in love with Neskowin and bought the house in 1991. Today, her children invite you to make this your vacation home in beautiful Neskowin. Enjoy the beach, the hills, the sun and the rain, Proposal Rock and Cascade Head.
Experience what we already know: your heart will be blessed here.

We are three siblings--an orthopedic surgeon, a radiologist, and an attorney. This was our mother's home for many years. Our mother loved books, and among her varied careers, she was a librarian. That is why her collection of fiction books is shelved alphabetically by author and her collection of nonfiction is shelved (roughly) according to the Dewey Decimal System. Our mom loved mysteries, so her small library includes a nice selection of Agatha Christie, Naio Marsh, Tony Hillerman, Dick Francis, Louis L'Amour, and many others. When she moved away to be closer to us, she decided to make her home available to Neskowin visitors. We enjoy this place so much, we have kept it in the family. Our own children love visiting here--from the time they were young, through their teenage years, and, now, as adults.
The Owner purchased this house in 1991
The niece of the woman who originally built this home was our mother's close friend. During our mother's visits to see her friend, she fell in love with Neskowin, and she decided to make this her home. While Neskowin is a charming beach village, it is close enough to a wide variety of shopping (including Tanger Outlets) and other activities in Lincoln City (8 miles).

We are visiting the coast from Detroit, and are having a week of perfectly sunny and breezy weather. We have already read many of your paperbacks and enjoy having so many shelves of books here. No doubt this is a warm and joyous house when full of people. Neskowin will add an interesting chapter to our vacation stay.
What a pleasant surprise we found in this sweet family home. We stayed for 6 days with our 2 year old twins, and the house suited us perfectly. It is small, but because of its nice flow, generous bedrooms, and large kitchen, it never felt tight. It was ideal for small children - beach and creek access is right off the backyard, there are hoses for rinsing off outside, it has homey furniture, towels, plates, etc that we weren't afraid to actually use, and one floor so no worries about lofts/stairs. This home is still used by its owners, and you can tell - the kitchen is well stocked (sharp knives! Coffee grinder! Big pots!), the book selection is amazing, lots of games and puzzles. We made a fire one night, we hiked cascade head one day, headed to Newport another. And Neskowin Beach was a daily treat; the combination of creek, rocks, and ocean varied with the tides.
The home is very close to the town entrance/cafe/market/beach path. We were worried about it feeling busy or loud, but it never really was, even on the weekends. I think Neskowin is small enough, that it just never gets that busy. And the close proximity was such a bonus with our toddlers - everything was in walking distance. It does not have a real obvious ocean view (you can see it through the backyard, glancingly), but it is so easy to access the beach, we didn't really need the view from home.
I am grateful to the owners for sharing this home, and keeping the price reasonable. We had a lovely time.
Loved this home! Just steps from the beach and cafe but private. Amazing collection of books to read. Comfy fireplace to sit and read. Great long table for jigsaw puzzles and family dinners. So relaxing. Can't wait to come back!
Cascade Head (Nature Conservancy) and Sitka Center for Art and Ecology are a short drive away. Outlet stores in Lincoln City. Tillamook Cheese Factory 45 minutes away.
