About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

This two bedroom, one and half bath home is located in the Faubourg Marigny adjacent to the French Quarter. You get all of the convenience of the quarter and all of the charm of New Orleans in this location. I fell in love with this home at first site and have tried to make sure it is set up for a most enjoyable visit for you. It is a shotgun style home built in the 1850's with a charming courtyard complete with a gas grill. The kitchen is quite large and includes a 5 burner gas stove.

About Anne Hazeltine

I fell in love with New Orleans before I ever even got there. I knew the music scene there would speak to my soul and it does. After just my second visit, I bought this place. I like to travel with my small dog and finding somewhere that was convenient with a kitchen that allowed a small dog was nearly impossible.

Anne Hazeltine purchased this house in 2011

Why Anne Hazeltine chose Marigny-Bywater

On my two previous trips to New Orleans, I had always stayed in the Marigny neighborhood. And since I travel with the dog, we had walked a lot around the area. I loved the neighborhood and everyone was so nice and interesting and welcoming. There are several wonderful coffee shops close by and the live music is so close, as is the French Quarter. And, most of the time, I can find parking near the house! (but no guarantees on that one!)

What makes this house unique

I love that I can park my car and not really need it again the whole time I am there. I can walk 4 blocks to catch the streetcar and go wander New Orleans and the Garden District. Or I can rent a bike and go all over the area. Or I can just chill in the courtyard all day. Or I can wander into the Quarter and shop for art and antiques. And the food! Oh, my, the food! Absolutely the best food and only a short walk away.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We received this e-mail from a guest:

We had a very nice stay at your home. It was spotless, kudos to Ginger. I've stayed in a few places in the Marigny/Bywater area and yours is one of the most tastefully decorated I've seen and it's hard to beat that location.

Sure beats staying in a sterile hotel down by the convention center. I love the area and my wife Suzanne and I will contact you for our next trip down there to see if you have availability.

Excellent lodgings and location!

Four of us stayed in the front house over Mother's day weekend. We've stayed many places in the Marigny and French Quarter but this place is our favorite. Very close proximity to all of the music clubs on Frenchman St and a short walk to the Quarter. The house is very well-kept and has alot of character. We could not have had a nicer hostess than Ginger! Courtyard in the back a huge plus.

amazing vacation rental

  • 5 of 5

my family of four stayed in this lovely home during our trip to New Orleans. Our 2 sweet dogs were able to accompany us which is always a plus! Home was beautifully furnished with everything needed to make our stay complete. Location was great....within walking distance of French Quarter. City bus line also runs directly in front of the property so was available to Cafe DuMonde and Jackson Square if we wished to ride rather than walk. We were able to park directly in front of home and never had to move our car during our entire trip. Definitely look forward to returning to this property next year for another terrific vacation!!!!

How to make a business trip an excellent vacation

  • 5 of 5

I had a business conference in New Orleans in late October and was accompanied by my Board Chair (Big Boss), his wife, my wife and our two havanese furbabies. After I looked at hotel prices and added parking, taxes, extra for pets, and overall hassle, the two Marigny houses (this one and the smaller in the back) hit the spot. Not only were they cheaper, all in, than the Conference Hotel, we got a ton of room, the dogs were most happy with their little compound, the houses were in great condition, well furnished, quiet, and greatly convenient to Frenchman St, the Quarter, tons of restaurants and music.

My wife and I (and furbabies) took the smaller back house as the bedroom and bath were upstairs and my board chair's wife has had hip surgery and was uncertain about climbing stairs. The front house (#371457) was awesome, all kinds of space, grand kitchen built around the original wood cookstove chimney, Boss's wife spent the first two days of our stay taking pictures with her phone and sending them to her friends and family bragging about "their place in New Orleans". They really did enjoy themselves. Neither couple had any problems at all. In fact, the Krewe of Boo had their halloween parade the evening we all arrived and I had my Chair convinced that I had organized a parade in honor of his visit (until he saw the parade participants and I had to admit to exaggerating "just a little").

Wife and I have traveled using VRBO and Flipkey for almost 25 years and have always been most satisfied. This was the first time we took advantage of private rental for a work trip and I learned something....THIS IS THE WAY TO DO IT. Wife wasn't stuck in a little hotel room while I was at meetings....the puppies were happy with their own yard...the place was private and quiet and still close to the music and food that makes New Orleans...New Orleans. There were a number of people at my conference who I showed photos of the property to and they were all quite jealous. Nuff said....if you have a need to be in New Orleans...this is the place to stay. I just sent off to reserve this house for Jazz Fest next year....that's how much we liked it.

perfect place for a group getaway

  • 5 of 5

The home was in emaculate condition.and overstocked with all the neccesities from extra towels and sheets to a fully equipped kitchen and tons of toiletries. The owner and her assistant were both very professional and ready to help in any way. We had a party of 6 and we all had plenty of room. The pictures do not do this place justice. We hope to be back next year.

A great place to stay for vacation

  • 5 of 5

Stayed with 4 other friends for a weekend but would have loved to have stayed longer. The proximity to Frenchman was wonderful. The beds are very comfortable, even the sofa bed. The kitchen is amazing! No complaints at all here.

Perfect house and location

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I, both enjoyed our stay in the Marigny area, immensely! We were originally expecting a 3rd person, that could not make the trip. So, it ended up just being 2 of us!! Much more room in the house, than of course needed, but we loved it. It worked out perfectly. We flipped a coin, each night, as to who slept in the room on the first floor, back of the house, or the loft. No complaints for either sleeping arrangement. Both had their benefits! The loft for privacy, and quiet, and the room on the first floor, for the bathroom location, right there. The house is so cool. Loved the character, and size of it. Fully equipped with anything you needed and wanted. From notes and recommendations, as to where to eat, visit, walk to, etc... to books galore, DVD's, spices for cooking, utensils, delivery menus. You name it, you were not left for wanting, or needing! The back courtyard is adorable, and peaceful. The location could not have been better. Walking a couple blocks to Frenchmen Street, where all the bars, live music, and restaurants are, to Royal Street, where all the galleries, and boutiques are. We walked for miles and miles, every day! Ginger, the property manager was helpful and attentive, prior to arrival, and Anne, the homeowner, that was staying in the house in the back of where we were staying, was so friendly, and also helpful, all during our stay. Where to go, where not to, and just to chat with! We highly recommend staying here, and will absolutely stay there again, on our next visit to New Orleans, whenever that will be!!!
