Overview

About the property

Great Room-Studio with full-sized Swedish Cubby (sleeps 2); Futon (sleeps 2).

Visiting Acadia National Park and Downeast Maine puts you in the middle of a widely diverse culture which, when combined with the unique features of our private getaway, permits a once in a lifetime opportunity. For instance, start your day with a vigorous hike through the woods of our eco-diverse forest (first growth pine to later growth hardwoods) then cool off with a swim in the quarry. After a quick lunch, board your Bar Harbor based whale watching vessel. Have a nice meal at a local restaurant and enjoy the evening with live entertainment--choose improv comedy, repertory theater or live music. And don't miss horse-drawn carriage rides in Acadia Park; singing old sea chanties while sailing a four masted schooner; touring Mount Dessert Island on one of Ollie's Trolleys; climbing a mountain; cycling Acadia's trails; kayaking one of the many local 'ponds.' Or relax on our wharf while watching an eagle hunt dinner then enjoy your own fresh caught lobster cooked in the cabin's pot

Beautiful cabin, perfect weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had the BEST time staying at the cabin. It was perfect for my fiancé and I and our 2 dogs! It was very clean and adorable! We loved being able to unwind and relax without all of the distractions of our busy lives! A quick drive to Acadia park- we were able to climb a peak one day and bring our dogs up another. We loved walking around the property and the views were gorgeous. We were also able to grill and cook lobsters in the lobster pot provided (can't leave Maine without lobster!) We are already planning our trip back to see the fall foliage. Thank you so much Joasha for a much needed trip for us and our dogs! :)

Serenity in the woods

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have stayed at this cozy cabin in the woods a number of times over the years and we always look forward to returning. Neat and tidy, warm and welcoming, with lovely wooded and secluded surrounds to "unplug" or, if feeling restless, easy access to everything Downeast Maine has to offer: hiking, biking (recommend Schoodic point loop), sailing, kayaking, whale watching, etc. We swim off the point on the property at high tide (how many people can say they swam in Maine?!), and just love taking a dip in the quarry or launching our kayaks to explore the bay. The owner is just delightful and more than happy to assist with recommendations for excursions, stop by for a nice chat, or leave you entirely to yourselves if preferred. We now feel a bit like family when we return, which is always nice. Our only problem is that more people have discovered this jewel since we've been coming. Shhhhh! :-)

Great spot

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage. The owner, Joasha, is such a nice and welcoming woman. We truly enjoyed meeting her and talking with her and playing with her dog. The property is beautiful and located in the woods but not super far from civilization. It was a great way to "check out" but still be a 30 min ride to Bar Harbor and Acadia. We highly recommend this rental to anyone who loves nature- there are multiple walks on the property down to the water and a great spot to kayak.

A disappointment...owner needs to update and review the listing!

  • 2 of 5

I have been reluctant to write this review but feel compelled to warn others that the property pictures and description are a tad outdated and the owner should review the info before renting in the future.

A friend and I rented this cabin for 6 nights at the end of June. It has the potential for being comfortable but not at the price charged. It is easier to list some of the reasons we were greatly disappointed:

1. The place was filthy! As indicated by a previous renter, we had to sweep the entire floor before we could walk on it. We "saved' the dirt to a gallon plastic bag to show the owner. Scatter rugs were extremely dirty and the owner took them to be cleaned. Glassware needed to be rewashed from previous renters. Futon cover filled with sand and dust. Windows covered with cobwebs!

2. Cabin does not have keys...owner said no one ever requested to lock up when they left for the day and that no one ever came to the cabin. The first day we were there, 2 men showed up to dig for clams/bait.

3. Windows on all sides do not have any blinds/shades. Besides being able to see in from every window at night, the sun streams in first thing in the morning!

4. Futon frame was broken and to the credit of the owner, she had a new one delivered. One problem, the old futon mattress was not replaced and ended up being too big for the new frame. Couldn't fold up at all.

5. Front porch is of no use with the mosquito population. Would be great if cleaned up and screened in.

6. There is a manual/guidebook in the cabin that describes the property. I believe it was written 10-11 years ago and much of the info is outdated and pages are torn out/dirty.

7. We were looking forward to the prospect of swimming in the quarry but were sadly disappointed when we saw it. The water is completely stagnant and covered with a very thick layer of slime. Again, riddled with mosquitoes.

8. Distance to Bar Harbor, Acadia is roughly 45-50 minutes, a bit longer than anticipated.

9. Amenities described on the website include hair dryer, beach chairs, beach towels, oven, etc. We had to ask for the first few items and there is no oven in the cabin (with the exception of a toaster oven).

10. Phone in cabin was sketchy. Could dial out locally but could not receive any calls. Cellular service almost non-existent.

The owner did her best to rectify the concerns we had as they arose. Sadly, we were left extremely disappointed. Overpriced camping at best.

Cosy and stylish retreat

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is just as you see in the pictures - an inviting, cosy bolthole that's perfect for enjoying the great outdoors. Joasha is a wonderful host and her property is a perfect place to get away from it all. An ideal spot for both hikes in Acadia, and looking for arts and crafts in Franklin. We will be back!

Perfect weekend getaway

  • 4 of 5

My boyfriend and I along with our dog went up here for the weekend. The cabin is perfect for a weekend getaway. The property itself is gorgeous with the lake being a 5 minute walk through a trail in the woods from the cabin and Bar harbor is just about a 40 minute drive and Acadia a 30 minute drive. Perfect if you are looking for a little cabin for the weekend.

Get really away from the hustle, bustle and traffic of Acadia, America's most visited National Park by relaxing in this comfortably charming, bright 'in the woods' cottage on beautiful Taunton Bay. Situated on a 36 acre peninsula, you'll be surrounded by water whenever you go just a few steps East, South or West. Explore trails that wind through the property or sit and relax on the great stone wharf where ocean going sailing ships used to pick up locally quarried granite for delivery to Boston, New York or Washington D.C. Swim in our fresh water quarries or off the wharf in the salt water bay. Launch your kayak or canoe from our ramp. Visit the seals or bird watch everything from chickadees to eagles. Visit Acadia National Park and watch the sun rise from the top of Cadillac Mountain, the first place in the U.S. the sun hits every morning, or savor a freshly made popover on the lawn of the Jordan Pond House. After a day of sightseeing, relax with a good book on the front porch.
