Small cottage, clean, nice yard for kids. 'Within walking distance to lake', not really...
Booking easy.Owner on property upon our arrival. She was very pleasant, explained workings of all appliances & that we were free to use whaterever food/supplies we found.House was clean. We were 5 adults (all related, thankfully). No real privacy due to bedrooms & bath overlooking the living room.1 dog along. Many linens for bathroom use.Upstairs bathroom had nice jacuzzi tub, however,it was difficult to enter & exit due to sloped roofline.First floor bath has shower, good water pressure but,it was the smallest shower ever.If my 6'7" son was with us he could not have showered standing up.Our elbows knocked into the sides during showering.Kitchen well appointed & lots of storage.Basement smelled 'mildewy' & there was a dehumidifier in use during our entire stay.Washer & dryer on premises.Upstairs bedrooms very hot & no room fans available.Upstairs windows are small-very little air circulation.2 full size beds & 1 twin.Ceiling fan in living room with remote control was helpful, but didn't move enough air for comfort in bedrooms.Nice looking, but dangerous staircase for small children & dogs.Steep, slippery & narrow with no backs on steps, only treads. Our dog fell 1/2 way through them, luckily we had a baby gate with us to prevent an accident.Balusters up stairs & in landing would be a danger for small children. Some of the dining room chairs were wobbly & we didn't want to break them (our weights between 160-250 lbs).Espresso machine was a HUGE hit!NO WIFI in the house,so my husband had to drive downtown to a cafe for doing work.We were at the lake for fishing & so we never made it to the associations beach.I would say it's not a 5 minute walk.Common lawn area was nice, parking an issue for beach & open space however.Only 1 marina would rent a fishing boat for a full week & that was a 35 minute drive to the southeast end of the lake! (house is at north west end).Drove through the provincial park, very nice with many camping sites, mostly in treed areas. Many hiking, water sports areas to enjoy.Entire park is NOT DOG friendly!Drove to N.Hatley for a day (30-45 minutes drive) fishing & guide was good, nice small restaurants. The country side is beautiful!Did the Copper mine tour-very interesting.Make a reservation ahead so that you are with the tour guide that speaks your language. We have ridden horses on 2 different occasions there.Nice dog kennel outside of town in N Hatley, none in Magog. Visited the Lavender Farm, expensive admission, but interesting 2 hours.Lovely products.
Thanks for full review.
We provided guests with full information on following subjects prior to arrival (fishing/boat/different marinas on the lake/activities to do/restaurants to try/etc).
We installed another single bed to accommodate fifth person of the group upstairs (we usually rent to 4 guests since we only have 2 bedrooms, but basement can also serve as third bedroom if necessary, fully furnished and renovated).
We acknowledge shower in the 1st bathroom is a little small, we plan to renovate in next 6-12 months. Staircase: property was built this way by previous owner but usually not a big issue (we have 2 kids ourselves age 1 and 4), we can provide guests with baby gate if necessary.
For cooling, heating & ventilation, guests can either use the ceiling fan in the living room, fireplace (we provide wood free of charge), or an 18 000 BTU Air Conditioning machine (fan not enough during hot summer days). Using A/C provides cool temperature across all different bedrooms/kitchen/living room. Basement usually cooler/humid in the summer months, that's why we provide dehumidifier for guest if they wish to use.
For parking and beach access, we provide guests with a community pass if they wish to park their car right across the private beach in the neighbourhood (No need to walk the 5-10 min to the lake).
Unfortunately, in all the Québec national parks, pets are prohibited, except for guide dogs (see sepaq.com for more info on provincial parks regulations).
