Alpine Escape is steeped in Helen History. Originally owned by the founders of the Alt Heidelberg Restaurant in downtown Helen, the house was built for entertaining. Converted into a Bed and Breakfast in the 90's called the Royal Windsor, it was showcased in Southern Living. Purchased in 2005, the home has been completely renovated to it's orginal charm but with many additional luxuries.
Alpine Escape is a true by owner rental. Lori and Chuck take great pride in their home and update decor, amenities and the property on a regular basis!
Close to Helen, Unicoi State Park and Lake Burton, the home is secluded on 3 acres with a beautiful iron gate. Two covered decks and three outdoor decks are surrounded by woods yet offer views of Tray Mountain. After you have tired of all the area has to offer, you'll have a private place with lots of space to enjoy family and friends while sitting by the stone fireplace, playing pool, teaching your kids to play pin ball or simply listening to the awesome Klipsch Sound System while relaxing.
Ranch style house makes it Great for family or friend get aways with a fully stocked kitchen complete with a wood burning stove - ever had fresh bread cooked in a wood burning stove!! The back patio has a gas grill, coal fired grill and a smoker.
There are three bedrooms with private bathrooms and the fourth bedroom has an awesome bathroom with travertine shower just across the hall. The half bath is located just off the pool table and bar area! A loft contains two twin futons with down mattresses that can be converted into a King for added guest!
Alpine Escape is truly a unique get away!

Chuck is in Insurance and Lori in Software Sales. This house has been a retreat for them for the last 6 years. They now want to do some traveling of their own!
The Owner purchased this house in 2005
We love the beauty of the area, the stellar wineries, boating on Lake Burton and the seclusion of our home.
My family, my best friend and her kids all stayed in this house for four nights in July. There was plenty of room for all of us to spread out. There are basically two wings of the house with two bedrooms each. The kitchen was well equipped with anything you would need for meal prep. The pool table and the pinball machine were huge hits. I will warn you, however, that the house is not very toddler friendly. There are very steep stairs going down to the garage area and a beautiful (but not very safe) wrought iron spiral staircase going up to the balcony. There are huge open gaps in the railings and the balcony itself was very low. We just didn't let the kids up there and blocked off the stairways with furniture so the two-year old in our group wouldn't wander! There was plenty of space for our six kids in spite of this, though. The beauty of this unique home and the peaceful location were truly special!
This is our second year to visit Helen, GA for July 4th and first time here at this wonderful place. The house was great, plenty of room and the layout worked great. The house was very clean and inviting. There were 6 adults and 4 children. The kids loved the 'tv room' as they called it. They were able to watch their videos while eating at the table that was in there. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated and I slept the best I had in weeks. The house was easily accesssible to downtown Helen. This was one of the best family vacations we have had and a lot of that was due to the accommodations we had. Thank you Lori and if we decide to visit Helen again we know where to call to stay. We would recommend this place to anyone.
We stayed here for a long weekend with several friends. The Cabin was very accommodating and a great location. Our group had plenty of space. I would recommend this cabin to anyone. Owners were easy to contact and helpful.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My husband and I drove up from Orlando, FL and my son and his family drove from VA. We only see each other twice a year. So, this house and location was the perfect place to meet. The house location was far enough in the mountains but only a few minutes to Helen. It was perfect. The house has a wealth of history that we were so impressed with. We loved the wood work. Lori and Chuck were such a joy to work with. My 7-year-old grandson enjoyed the board games, the corn hole toss (thank you Chuck for telling me about it!), and the pool table. The entertainment room was a wonderful place to hang outl and the CD player and surround sound were fantastic. We definitely got a lot of use out of it. I loved the fact that each bedroom had its own bathroom. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and walking the property. It was a wonderful family Thanksgiving week. I would definitely stay here again when we ever visit Helen, GA.
Very nice and clean place. Could not have asked for better accommodations. Very close to Helen but far enough away to have privacy. Nice sized bedrooms with very comfortable bedding. The only problem we had was the driveway if you ride motorcycles -it is a little tedious driving up and down the gravel. Otherwise-perfect accommodations and will most likely book again.
OMG.......where do I begin......we liked everything about the house.......the space, the ability to have privacy when needed, the decor, the location, the atmosphere, the owners attention to detail in providing everything needed for guests, the hospitality and welcome from the owners.
We were celebrating retirement of our husband and dad from the US Army after 30 years of service. The owners even had the house decorated for us with a patriotic theme. Their personal touch meant a lot to our retirement celebration.
This house goes on our list of places to revisit.
