About Jon Harris

My wife and I settled on the Central Coast of California after a 10 year of military service. We have two adult children and four grandchildren, who we enjoy spending most of our time with. In 2001 we traveled to Oakhurst, California, for the first time and immediately fell in love with the area. The first thing that appealed to us was the friendly people and the relaxing atmosphere this area provided. We are outdoor enthusiast who enjoy camping, hiking, boating, sightseeing, and areas that are unique with culture. We enjoy traveling in the United States and abroad.

Jon Harris purchased this house in 2009

Why Jon Harris chose Yosemite Area

The first thing that appealed to us was the friendly people and the relaxing atmosphere this area provided. As we explored the area a little more, we were impressed with how much the local area had to offer. With Bass Lake and Yosemite National Park nearby, we quickly realized this one area had so much to offer for anyone. Whether it is snow skiing, water skiing, boating, hiking, sightseeing, or just the relaxation this beautiful area has to offer, your experience will be sensational.

This property is designed to help protect our most valuable resources, and the beauty that California and the Yosemite area have to offer..

Reducing, Reusing & Recycling

From recycling to installing high efficiency systems, we’re reducing our impact on the environment by reusing wherever possible. We practice extensive waste reduction and recycling of glass, paper, and cardboard, metal, plastic and ceramic. These efforts have reduced our waste significantly, the majority of which is now recycled.

Water Reduction Practices

To conserve water, one of California’s greatest natural resources, we have taken several steps to reduce its usage here at The Yosemite Haus; we have installed low-flow toilets and plumbing equipment. We also personally conserve water and encourage guests to do the same by doing such things as turning faucets off when not in immediate use and asking guests to consider using their linens more than once.

Smoke Free Environment

For the health and comfort of our guests and the health of the environment, Yosemite haus is a smoke-free environment.

Compact Florescent Bulbs and fixtures

Our change from incandescent to compact florescent bulbs in over 75% of our fixtures has reduced our energy usage significantly.

Exactly as depicted - Great home

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after dark so the explicit directions were much appreciated and thankfully the addresses are clearly signed at the driveways. The house was exactly as depicted in the pictures, clean, spacious and comfortable. On the kitchen island was a welcoming bottle of wine, some local jelly and crackers with cream cheese in the fridge - very classy. We turned on the gas fireplace which really puts out heat and provides a relaxing ambiance. Television and WiFi worked great so we didn't miss the Giants and were able to keep up on emails. Everything we needed to prepare our own meals was provided in the well-equipped kitchen, including a bag of kitchen supplies (foil, storage bags, dishwasher pods, sponge) as well as laundry detergent and a dryer sheet so we could wash our hiking clothes after our first day of hiking. The drive to the Valley floor wasn't any longer than we expected after doing our homework on Google before arriving, and the iconic waterfalls were really flowing- the reason we visited in April. The Wawona (now called Big Trees) area is very close, relatively speaking, and we hiked to Chilnualna Falls our second day. Whew what a hike, but it was so beautiful with the rushing cascades and panoramic views from the top. After our full days in the park it was great to return "home" to get cleaned up and relax. Ping pong in the game room was really fun, alas I am not the champion. The master bathroom bathtub was great for soaking our tired muscles. We found the beds comfortable so woke up refreshed. We would definitely recommend this home and would stay here again. When doing that last walkthrough to ensure we didn't forget anything, we neglected to look behind the front door which concealed a fleece jacket handing on the handy hooks. Upon contacting the property manager, she was extremely helpful and is sending the jacket back to us via mail. The owners were also very responsive via email and quickly answered all my pre-trip inquiries.

Thank you

  • 4 of 5

For us it made a lot of sense to be in the right location, as we were running the half marathon near Oakhurst, and had plans to also visit Yosemite(numerous times) and the giant sequoias below Fresno. It was nice to also be close to Oakhurst for dining and other needs. This house is perfectly situated to serve that purpose, and in addition it is a nicely appointed 3 bedroom unit that makes you feel like you are at home the minute you walk in the front door. The game room was certainly a nice touch and when you were weary of all the sight seeing the large deck made relaxation quite sweet! We are all thankful to have had the opp to stay here and grateful to owners to share their piece of heaven with us! We saw deer, turkey and quail from deck too!

Very nice home! Great location for many sites including Yosemite. The house had everything we needed

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home for a long weekend stay from Bakersfield. It was perfect...everything we needed. We all enjoyed the game room as an extra activity after dinner. Friday was our "best weather" day so we spent it exploring Yosemite which was very easy to get to from this house. We all had a great time!

Quiet, clean and allergy-free!

  • 5 of 5

This house was just as advertised with no surprises (except for the positive kind.) I was very happy here, which is a tall order considering I have severe allergies to many things ( including pets, cigarette smoke, dust, mold & strong chemicals). I deem it allergy free!

We appreciated the prompt, friendly responses & help from Jon! He was very understanding of my detailed questions and health precautions ... And answered them all honestly.

We were greeted with a gift of wine and a snack as well as extra provisions for the laundry, bath & kitchen and all of the utensils and gadgets you could need for making meals! Good quality pots n pans & plenty of them. There was ample hot water for the large bath. The sofas were super comfortable and in great shape, the beds were fine/ comfortable, and one of the queen mattresses is brand-new in the yellow room. It is on a residential street, but towards the end… very infrequent cars driving by to their residences.. it's peaceful & due to being on a hill with trees, you can barely see the neighboring houses... One across the street (below & behind the trees), and the other up higher on the hill next-door. I am a light sleeper, and thrilled that it was very quiet at night!

Like I said... no indoor allergens or air fresheners to cover up anything-since there are no issues to cover up! Yay! This may sound picky, but it is a big deal to me when selecting a vacation home while having these health problems, and it can make or break my vacation-and they were very understanding of that. I hope my review helps someone else who has similar issues.

One tiny thing to mention if you have any allergies to perfumed products... do let them know, as they do wash the towels with strongly scented laundry soaps. But, I think that is pretty typical of most places, and most guests tend to like that. I know they would have been happy to accommodate me if I had mentioned my sensitivity to that ahead of time. They're just that kind of nice people. :-) ( I just re-washed them myself in the unscented laundry soap that I brought… And it was all good! I loved using the stacked washer and dryer closet ).

They are very conscientious to keep the house in tiptop shape and clean it well. Please do as I did and respect their home as a guest to keep it excellent for years to come! Great owner and on site host :-) Thanks again, Jon & Michelle!

Perfect vacation HQ

  • 5 of 5

This home was prefect for our Spring Break vacation. It was clean, well stocked and well decorated. The kids loved spending time on the large deck and the game room was a big hit!!

The local coordinator was very responsive when we had questions. We would totally stay here again.

We loved how centrally located we were for all the activities we wanted to do in the area. We spent two days in Yosemite NP, rode the Sugar Pine Railroad, and spent an afternoon on Bass Lake.

Thank you so much for sharing this lovely home with us!!
