About Jon Harris

My wife and I settled on the Central Coast of California after a 10 year of military service. We have two adult children and five grandchildren, who we enjoy spending most of our time with. In 2001 we traveled to Oakhurst, California, for the first time and immediately fell in love with the area. The first thing that appealed to us was the friendly people and the relaxing atmosphere this area provided. We are outdoor enthusiast who enjoy camping, hiking, boating, sightseeing, and areas that are unique with culture. We enjoy traveling in the United States and abroad.

Jon Harris purchased this house in 2009

Why Jon Harris chose Yosemite Area

The first thing that appealed to us was the friendly people and the relaxing atmosphere this area provided. As we explored the area a little more, we were impressed with how much the local area had to offer. With Bass Lake and Yosemite National Park nearby, we quickly realized this one area had so much to offer for anyone. Whether it is snow skiing, water skiing, boating, hiking, sightseeing, or just the relaxation this beautiful area has to offer, your experience will be sensational.

This property is designed to help protect our most valuable resources, and the beauty that California and the Yosemite area have to offer..

Reducing, Reusing & Recycling

From recycling to installing high efficiency systems, we’re reducing our impact on the environment by reusing wherever possible. We practice extensive waste reduction and recycling of glass, paper, and cardboard, metal, plastic and ceramic. These efforts have reduced our waste significantly, the majority of which is now recycled.

Water Reduction Practices

To conserve water, one of California’s greatest natural resources, we have taken several steps to reduce its usage here at The Yosemite Haus; we have installed low-flow toilets and plumbing equipment. We also personally conserve water and encourage guests to do the same by doing such things as turning faucets off when not in immediate use and asking guests to consider using their linens more than once.

Smoke Free Environment

For the health and comfort of our guests and the health of the environment, Yosemite haus is a smoke-free environment.

Compact Florescent Bulbs and fixtures

Our change from incandescent to compact florescent bulbs in over 75% of our fixtures has reduced our energy usage significantly.

Exactly as depicted - Great home

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after dark so the explicit directions were much appreciated and thankfully the addresses are clearly signed at the driveways. The house was exactly as depicted in the pictures, clean, spacious and comfortable. On the kitchen island was a welcoming bottle of wine, some local jelly and crackers with cream cheese in the fridge - very classy. We turned on the gas fireplace which really puts out heat and provides a relaxing ambiance. Television and WiFi worked great so we didn't miss the Giants and were able to keep up on emails. Everything we needed to prepare our own meals was provided in the well-equipped kitchen, including a bag of kitchen supplies (foil, storage bags, dishwasher pods, sponge) as well as laundry detergent and a dryer sheet so we could wash our hiking clothes after our first day of hiking. The drive to the Valley floor wasn't any longer than we expected after doing our homework on Google before arriving, and the iconic waterfalls were really flowing- the reason we visited in April. The Wawona (now called Big Trees) area is very close, relatively speaking, and we hiked to Chilnualna Falls our second day. Whew what a hike, but it was so beautiful with the rushing cascades and panoramic views from the top. After our full days in the park it was great to return "home" to get cleaned up and relax. Ping pong in the game room was really fun, alas I am not the champion. The master bathroom bathtub was great for soaking our tired muscles. We found the beds comfortable so woke up refreshed. We would definitely recommend this home and would stay here again. When doing that last walkthrough to ensure we didn't forget anything, we neglected to look behind the front door which concealed a fleece jacket handing on the handy hooks. Upon contacting the property manager, she was extremely helpful and is sending the jacket back to us via mail. The owners were also very responsive via email and quickly answered all my pre-trip inquiries.

Perfect location for our visit to Yosemite!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! The home had everything we needed and more. The beds were comfortable, the deck and bbq were great, the kitchen had all the necessities and our kids loved the game room. The location was beautiful and it was about 50 minutes from Yosemite Valley through the south entrance which was perfect. Jon, the owner was great to work with. Highly recommended!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I recently stayed at the property during a family vacation. Everything was perfect. Opening the door to wine glasses and a bottle of wine along with the care package of necessities showed how much thought was given to a comfortable stay for guests. The size of the house was perfect. It allowed our 21, 18 and 14 year old children the luxury of having their own space. The kitchen nook was a wonderful place to gather for breakfast before embarking on our day trips to Yosemite. The location was close to the park entrance (about 30 minutes.) The game room allowed us to enjoy healthy competition between each other. The deck and grill area was our evening gathering place for dinners while enjoying the beautiful California weather. It was a great place to wind down after two days in Los Angeles and to recharge before three days in San Francisco. Would absolutely stay here again if ever in the area.

Wonderful cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time staying at the cabin! The kayak and paddle board were put to good use at the lake! There was everything we needed at the cabin, even a slow cooker! Cabin was just how it was described. I will definitely stay here again.

Great location to visit both Yosemite and Sequoia plus a Game Room in the house!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 4 days/3 nights Thursday-Sunday and the house is located perfectly for day trips and come back just in time to prepare dinner.

The house was clean and it is very well kept. We felt like home!

There was a bottle of wine as a welcome gift (great detail from the hosts!).

Our kids loved the game room which is equiped with a tennis table, air hockey, foosball, etc.

From the house we visited Yosemite (leave at 5:30am if you want to enjoy hassle free and find parking). Stop at the Visitor Center in Oakhurst the first day you arrive so you can get orientation about things to do and you can buy the park pass there too.

The second day we went to Sequoia National Park through Kings Canyon National Park. The drive was nice and we also left early 6:45am to make the most of our day. We got back right on time for dinner.

Thank you Jon & wife for letting us stay in your home!
