About Mike Auliso
Greetings! My name is Michael and I run the Tribal Art Gallery located below the Loft & above the Garden Flat.. I live in the Redwood Forest in the Santa Cruz Mts, but am close by & always available for the needs of guests. The gallery is by appointment, so foot traffic is minimal
Mike Auliso purchased this Apartment in 2009
Why Mike Auliso chose Half Moon Bay
Princeton by the Sea, where the property is located, about 9 square blocks in size, was the original center for crab & general commercial fishing in the Bay Area, and still is mostly Boat repair, crab trap storage, the Yacht Club, boat rentals, and other marine related businesses or local artists. There is no commercial manufacturing allowed, and generally businesses must be marine or art related, like my gallery. Basically Pillar Point is a working Harbor, with a few artists & craftspeople in residence. The 'Romeo Pier' in front of our property was the unloading point for fishermen's catch since the early 1800s. Many of the 'crabbers' have gone, and the community is slowly turning back into the small creative enterprise, private residence & artist colony, that it was back in the 1920's through the 1960's, when many famous artists and musicians lived in the old warehouses. We are continually working to beautify the old buildings & general area, particularly the 3 blocks of beach road between the Harbor Marina, and West Point Beach where we are located; so that hopefully soon, there won't be as much of a contrast between the two areas, without having Princeton be 'touristy' like the Marina. Sometimes it's interesting to get out of your normal environment, and experience something completely different, and that is why I was so taken with the property. Also it is the closest building to Mavericks Big Wave surfing beach, which to surfing enthusiasts is what a cozy chalet at the foot of Mt Everest would be to avid climbers. We have a lot of water sports and fishing activity in the harbor, as well as wonderful hiking on the Point & bird watching at the estuary across the street.
What makes this Apartment unique
Half Moon Bay has a quaint downtown with lots of amazing restaurants, and a variety unusual Art, as well as amazing shopping opportunities. Renting the Loft is my way of sharing the HMB experience I enjoy with others.

The apartment is perfectly appointed and situated for being active if you want or for relaxing and taking in the views. We did a combo of both.
You are literally 20 feet away from the sand and water. From our living room, we saw sea lions frolicking 10 feet from shore. There were also so many interesting birds on the shore and in the water. The living room overlooking the beach is basically all windows. It is amazing.
The apartment is at the entrance to the beach so it was very entertaining to watch people and their dogs hit the sand. If you are feeling active, there are many miles of hiking trails that lead to beautiful views right out your front door.
The apartment is on the 3rd floor of a mixed use building. The stairs leading up to the apartment are fairly steep so take that into consideration if that could be an issue. You enter the apartment in the bedroom which is a little odd but when you see the living room, it makes total sense. The only tv is in the bedroom which is fine because the views from the living room are better than anything on tv. The bedroom actually has 2 beds in it, a queen and a twin day bed that can be used as a bed or a couch if you choose to watch tv.
The living room/kitchen area is where you will spend most of your time when you are in the apartment. The fully stocked kitchen has everything you need (coffee, tea, spices, and a basket of goodies) and all of the appliances are high end. There is a chaise lounge and a couch along with a kitchen table and chairs but you will be spending most of your time in the 2 chairs at the window, glued to the view.
The bathroom is shower-only but it is well stocked like the rest of the apartment.
The apartment is also within walking distance to stores and restaurants and breweries. There are no sidewalks for most of the walk but there isn't much traffic so it never felt unsafe. It is also close to paddle board and kayak rentals.
We brought our dog with us and I am pretty sure it was like heaven on earth for her. We averaged about 7 miles of beach walking/hiking every day of our stay. It was very easy to do because it is right out your front door.
I would highly recommend this property to people looking for rest and relaxation and people looking for adventure or a combo of both. It has everything you need to make your stay whatever you want to make of it.
A place to rest and relax
This area is quiet, and tucked away from the commercialized area if Half Moon Bay. This is a loft that is small - perfect for two people. The panoramic windows are very nice. Lots of activities to watch from that spot. Short walk to a beautiful beach to the West (over the hill) not the one closest to the Jetty. Bikes to ride as well. Not far from Marina. The owner takes great measures to make sure he covers all the extra things to make this a very comfortable place including a bottle of wine. Good place to rest and restore your life for a few days.
Great seaside retreat
We were looking to have a nice relaxing vacation near the beach. This place did not disappoint. Since it was tucked away, we were able to relax as much as we wanted & enjoy the awesome views from the living room. We totally took advantage of the fully equipped kitchen & did a few supply runs to the Safeway just down the road. You can't beat a breakfast looking out at the bay just outside the property.
It was nicely located so that we could easily jaunt up to San Francisco for day activities or explore any of the other towns nearby. We used this to our advantage to see Japantown, the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, Pier 39, & Muir Woods during our stay. Just be aware that you have to go online & get a parking reservation to visit the wood now.
The owner's recommendation to try Barbara's Fish Trap (only a short 10 minute walk away) was spot on. They are cash only, but totally worth it. The seafood was so fresh & completely amazing.
We would definitely stay here again for another vacation, because we had no regrets (besides not using enough sunscreen).
I was looking for a quiet, relaxing, dog-friendly place with easy access to the beach as well as restaurants that all allowed dogs as well. This property definitely ticked all boxes!
We had a great time walking out of the unit right onto the beach and always found a couple local pups looking to play on their morning walk. Half Moon Bay Brewery, Old Princeton Landing and Caffee Mezzaluna were all good options for food and drinks outside.
Thanks Tom, Hope to see you back soon!
Had a great time in this condo. The place is right next to the harbor and beach. We enjoyed watching people clam digging in the early am hours and it’s a nice walk along the beach to Mavericks famous surf spot and tide pools. We walked to many restaurants along the harbor.
The condo is very clean and organized, very much appreciated. Check in and out process was very easy. Thank you Michael
Great loft overlooking bay.
It was a very clean, modern loft overlooking the bay, and within walking distance of the ocean. The foghorn was constant and something you had to get used to. It was worth it for us! Saw seals in the bay.
