Why Kevin McGuire chose North Carolina

We built the cottage on our residential property in 2000 for family, friends and rentals, inspired by spending an amazing week in a stone-and-thatch cottage in NW Ireland.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a wonderful respite from the Florida summer. From the melodies of the birds each morning and throughout the day to the sounds of The Fabulous Thunderbirds 2-1/2 miles away at Bele Chere, this is truly a special place. The mountains, valleys, rivers, creeks and trails... there is so much beauty here. Anne and Kevin, we appreciate your creating this place with all the special touches you have provided. Looking forward to returning to the specialness, J

As I listen to "Graceland" while packing up to leave, I am thinking of the graciousness you have showed us in opening up this lovely getaway and sacred space. Thank you for making it so easy for us to enjoy our time here. Asheville and surrounding areas are great places to visit and experience. /we hope to do this again! G

Peace and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

Cozy cottage with everything we needed, tucked into the trees in a quiet residential neighborhood. Homey decorations and a nice deck bring instant relaxation. There's even a gate (in the closet) to close off the deck so little ones (kids, canines) can stay safe. There's a designated parking spot on the cul-de-sac so our car was out of harm's way. Nice neighborhood for walking our dog and downtown is just a few minutes drive away. The mattress is new and very plush foam. SO comfy!! We'll definitely come back!! The owners are friendly but not intrusive so you have lots of privacy, and they have a sweet friendly dog. We had no problems at all. Our little dog stayed with us and enjoyed the deck (with safety gate). There was room for her play pen in the living room so we could keep her safe (bad back, can't let her jump on furniture) while we were out. one morning a squirrel stopped by to drink from a water garden on the deck and many birds sang to us from the hemlocks. There is a flight of stairs to get to the cottage on the second floor so this place wouldn't work for anyone who can't get up a flight of stairs, but is great for anyone without mobility issues.

wonderful stay in Asheville

  • 5 of 5

The Terrace Cottage is a wonderful location from which to enjoy beautiful, vibrant Asheville. The cottage is tastefully decorated, and hosts Anne and Kevin are wonderfully hospitable. The neighborhood with its historic homes offers great walking for the dogs (and humans). We enjoyed the restaurants in the area, especially Homegrown, and the proximity to downtown and all the interesting Asheville venues. We look forward to returning!

Great location

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I were visiting Asheville and enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was located in a very beautiful neighborhood and the perfect location! Uber was only $7 to get downtown. Also very close to the Grove Park Inn. The cottage was clean, cozy, and comfortable. Loved the secluded little patio. Kevin and his wife were very friendly. We will definitely be back soon!

cozy cottage with a good location

  • 5 of 5

Me and my boyfriend recently visited the Terrace Cottage and really enjoyed our stay! It was a short drive to downtown Asheville, the Biltmore, and the NC Arboretum. The cottage itself was very clean and we really appreciated the fully stocked kitchen and breakfast nook to prepare and eat meals. Kevin, the owner, was very helpful and quick to respond to any emails I sent him. He even offered to let us stay past checkout time on the last day of our stay since there wasn't another visitor scheduled to arrive. Friendly hosts and a nice place to stay for a long weekend!

Cozy, Clean and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

We visited Asheville in the heart of North Carolina winter for a girl's weekend getaway. The cottage was lovely and Kevin was kind enough to turn the heat up before our arrival. Very private, quiet and even on a windy day you won't hear any outside noise. Because it was Restaurant Week, we dined out but all the appliances/dishes are there to prepare meals. Both the bed and pullout sofa were very comfortable. There were extra quilts and even a fan if you are like me and can't sleep without one. Downtown, Biltmore and other areas of interest are very short drive away making it easy to enjoy all the city has to offer!! Look forward to a return visit soon!

Great place and great hosts!

  • 4 of 5

Cottage was cute, had everything we needed for my husband, myself, and our two small children (2 and 4). The owners were great, offered awesome advice on where/what to seem and even left a bunch of toys for our kids to play with! Walking distance to two parks, botanical gardens, and college. Was too much of a hike for us to walk downtown (over 35 min), but we enjoyed that it was a little distance between us and downtown. Asheville is a great city, loved all it's charm, and loved visiting the Biltmore and Chimney Rock (a must see...about 20 miles away)! Highly recommend this property!

Car: recommended

Beaver Lake- our neighborhood favorite- is a five minute's drive and perfect for picnicing, fishing, and birding. Our walkable neighborhood parks feature creeks, terrific climbing and play equipment and lots of grassy expanses for the kids. Our cool, green botanical gardens are walking distance just below the UNC-Asheville campus. The neighborhood and downtown offer too many excellent restaurants, cafes, and markets to mention and are celebrated for their variety and quality. All of downtown is a WiFi hotspot so take along your computer for a cup of coffee. Asheville's new center-city park- Pack Square and Roger McGuire Green- is amazing and not to be missed. Movie theater is walkable featuring regular kid's films also.
