About Julia DeSantis

Recently relocated from NJ to FL we are now empty nesters that cannot use this exquisite property as much as we used to when we were in driving distance. My family has been living and vacationing in LP on this property for over 70 years. We have strong ties to the community and my husband and I and 4 grown children still vacation here year-round particularly in summer weeks to escape the FL heat.

Julia DeSantis purchased this house in 1999

Why Julia DeSantis chose Adirondack Mountains

Part of a homestead property held by my family for close to 70 years. The other homes on the compound belong to siblings.

What makes this house unique

The house was lovingly expanded and furnished over the years and is not your average bland tired rental but a well appointed family home. Surrounded by dense forest and no other homes in sight yet close proximity to town. Lots of areas in the house to escape and chill even in a full house. Love to entertain adults in the expansive kitchen/dining area and back porch while kids can be occupied or sound asleep on other side of house. Love to choose one of the three furnished covered porches on a rainy day with a book or laptop.

Great house in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

Very nice home, a few minutes drive from the town center, and grocery store yet secluded in the woods. Great outdoor areas to relax on the 2 covered porches. Great yard for our two pups we had as well. Clean and had all the cookware we could ask for. Highly recommend!

Great Location, Privacy & Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

Brookside Cottage is a wonderful property, both centrally located, and with plenty of privacy. The main room and kitchen together form a great gathering spot-very good for families and/or groups of friends. House is clean with (in winter at least) a very ski lodge quintessential feel. The game room was a big bonus.

Brookside Cottage Lake Placid

  • 4 of 5

Stayed at Brookside with my family of 5, sister and nephew, mom and dad and dog. Total of 9. I have 3 kids ages 6,6,9. All of us had a great time, went on a number of hikes, ventured into town and had a great stay at Brookside. The property was well cared for. Lots of new renovations. Had all of the amenities one could need plus a great game room over the garage with jukebox, poker table, tv, darts and pool. My 20 year old nephew loved it over there but it got too cold to stay up there the last night.

The fire pit worked out well for roasting marshmellows.

Only goofy part was the big step down from the rooms and in the middle of the night, it can be tough if you don't remember.

The new tree house looks like a neat addition but the workers were there early Saturday morning working on it despite renters in the house. So we left and went for a hike.

All in all, a great time with no major issues at all with the property. Time well spent.

Owner's Response: Dan and family: So happy you all had a good time at the Cottage. I apologize for the work going on next door. We as a rule do not allow the work to go on during a stay and if you had called us we would have happily called them off. In the chaos of having to evacuate our home in FL for Hurricane Matthew my husband forgot to notify the contractor. You need only to turn the baseboard heaters on in the garage for plenty of heat. We use that game room throughout the year. In the fall they are often off as it is not needed 24 hours. If your nephew was trying to sleep on the porch, yes I imagine it was cold! Again, we are always available 24/7 by phone or email to respond to and rectify any guest concern. Thank you for taking the time to leave this review!

Brookside cottage

  • 5 of 5

We love Lake Placid and enjoy family vacations there. Normally, we stay at the Whiteface Lodge. We booked Brookside Cottage for Christmas vacation. It was so comfortable and easily accommodated our grown family of five. The location is so pretty, nestled in the woods. Loved the kitchen/dining area with fireplace. Had a relaxing week and look forward to returning. Owners are nice to deal with and very helpful, which is a bonus.

Great Winter Get-Away!

  • 5 of 5

Brookside Cottage is an ideal place to get away, either to read a good book by the fire or enjoy all the activities that Lake Placid has to offer. The location is private, yet close to town for easy access to groceries or other shopping fun. The cottage’s floor plan is wonderful – bedrooms are separate from the living/hanging out space and the kitchen/dining room is well set up and a great place for lingering over dinner in front of the fire. Access to the Jack Rabbit trail is right down the road and we enjoyed fabulous cross-country skiing on Lake Placid. Brookside is a delight, and I hope we’ll return again.
