McCall Cabin by Payette Lake - Private Dock, Deck & Beach, 4 Seasons, Lake-View

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,100 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 1 - 3 nights

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Fun 4-season A-frame cabin by gorgeous Payette Lake has private dock, deck & beach and beautiful lake view. Sleeps 8+. Classic knotty-pine lodge decor throughout & a new shake roof with large windows make for a bright, cozy cabin atmosphere. Located just off Warren Wagon Road, around the corner from Shore Lodge and minutes from 'downtown' McCall. The view is breathtaking--pristine Payette Lake & surrounding mountains. Brundage and Tamarack ski resorts are just a few minutes away. Wood stove and back-up heater keeps cabin toasty warm in winter.

National Geographic just named McCall #1 Secret Ski Town and said it was best for people who enjoy light powder snow.

Just 15 minutes from Brundage ski area & 25 minutes from Tamarack. Golf, tennis, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, cycling, sand volleyball, skiing/snowboarding, nordic & skate skiing, tubing hill, cycling, horseback riding, hot springs, spa and other fun activities are all nearby. Waterskiing, wakeboarding, wake surfing, tubing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, para-sailing, swimming & cliff jumping are all available on Payette Lake. The abundance of beds, large living room & huge deck make this cabin perfect for families.

Rent a boat or bring your own to enjoy this pristine lake, then tie it up at your private dock (late spring to early fall) and enjoy happy hour on your deck on the lake.

Hike or mountain bike to countless high-mountain lakes and don't forget your fishing rod.

Barbecue on the cabin deck or taste the local fare at 'downtown' restaurants that run the gamut; fish, steak, sushi, pizza, Mexican & Italian food are all offered at various quaint McCall restaurants. But save room for a hand-dipped ice cream cone from Ice Cream Alley or a huckleberry shake from My Father's Place, both throw-backs from simpler times. Franchises are not allowed in McCall, so enjoy the local experience.

McCall is just 90 miles north of Boise. Follow the rapids of the Payette River through the canyon, then experience the mountain vistas of Round Valley & Long Valley on your way to the cabin.

We are excited to share our family cabin with you!

PS-Our extended family enjoys our cabin frequently, so we often block off summer months & weekends for their use, then open them up (sometimes last minute) if/when the dates become available. So check our calendar often as we are continually updating it to open up available dates. Thank you!

About Sam

The Hattabaugh family fell in love with McCall in the 60's when Grandpa Dan Collett was caretaker for JR Simplot's Payette lakefront property. We purchased the cabin in 1972 and have been returning for family vacations ever since. Because many of us live out of state, we decided to make the cabin available to others when we are not visiting.

Sam purchased this cabin in 1972

Why Sam chose Idaho

We love swimming & boating on Payette Lake, so the private dock, deck & beach are perfect. It's great being just around the corner from Shore Lodge, across the lake from the marina & just minutes from 'downtown' McCall. We enjoy water activities, hiking, mountain biking, morel and huckleberry picking, golf, tennis & snow skiing--all right near the cabin. Part of our family resides in Boise, so McCall is very convenient for us. It's wonderful to escape Boise's summer heat, winter inversions & long lift lines at other ski hills. Fall is colorful & peaceful. Winter is a white wonderland with fluffy powder snow. Spring stays winter for awhile, then bursts with new life. And summer is absolute paradise. The cabin is our refuge in all 4 seasons & a gathering place for our whole family in late July. We know you will enjoy it, too!

What makes this cabin unique

The large deck is perfect for gatherings of family & friends. An abundance of sleeping spaces accommodate larger families. And the wood burning stove & oil heater keep the cabin toasty in the winter. Winter Carnival in mid-February brings elaborate ice sculptures & a flurry of entertainment to McCall. Art fairs, concerts, the classic wood boat show, live theater, gallery strolls & festivals are abundant. There's a year-round ice rink, quaint gift shops & boutiques and lots of restaurants with great food & beautiful views 'downtown.' Ice Cream Alley is also a favorite stop. Five gorgeous golf courses are near the cabin. Pick-up beach volleyball games at the public park by the marina are a favorite for teens. And of course we love swimming, boating & relaxing at our private beach & dock.

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. It is a rustic, older cabin but kept very clean and everything is functional. Owners were very welcoming and accessible if we ever had questions.

Plenty of sleeping room for our family and multiple kids. Great living space too.

We really loved how the cabin is set so that you get the feel of a wooded lot, but can still see the lake (just a few steps away). Great private dock for a boat or jumping in the lake. Friendly neighbors. Nothing but good things to say about our stay.

Great Girl Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Five women gathered here for a one night get away . . . it was perfect . . . just what you hope a cabin will be. We enjoyed time sitting on the "dock" right on the lake - beautiful views . . . Stargazed from the deck . . . took walks . . . cooked together . . . slept well. Very cabin-esque. Owner was great and easy to work with!

Best Cabin Ever!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had to go to my family reunion in Cascade Idaho. We thought we would stay 1 night in McCall at this AWESOME cabin to get our wits about us, before the family shenanigans began. Forget the reunion, we are moving in here! This family cabin comes with views of the lake, a private dock, and a beach! There are countless places to sleep. We loved how comfortable it is. All the windows allows for lots of natural light and good vibes. You can tell that the family has made lots of memories and truly cherishes this getaway in the woods. I loved doing my yoga practice in the sunshine on the deck😌. Nice neighbors. Looks like we will be bringing all our friends back for a couples weekend very soon! Thanks for the great place to stay!

Great Cabin in Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a great ski getaway and loved it. It is the perfect family cabin, not fancy but very comfortable. A small herd of deer welcomed us and we quickly settled in for an enjoyable stay. The location is perfect, close enough to town to walk but far enough away to be peaceful and quiet. McCall is known for great winter activities and you can be at Brundage Mountain (Best Snow in Idaho) within 20 minutes. Miles of cross country ski trails are even closer. There is a great selection of restaurants in town and you have a well equipped kitchen if you want to cook. Sam is great to work with and responds quickly to your needs. Highly recommend!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. We also LOVE going to the cabin for ski trips. Brundage and Tamarack both had epic snow years, validating National Geographic's calling McCall the #1 Secret Ski Town for light powder skiing and families. Brundage even made their bunny hill free! The lake is gorgeous in the winter and the wood stove keeps us toasty warm. Thanks again for writing a review. Think snow!

Everything a cabin should be!!! Can't wait to stay again.

  • 5 of 5

This place feels like what it is, a beautiful, folksy, family cabin on the lake, but available for your family! The owner is a delight to deal with, and you can feel her understandable enthusiasm for the place. The wood burning stove is a treat, and works surprisingly well at heating and ambiance. Although it appears small from the outside, it is very well laid out and offers a substantial amount of sleeping areas, including a (super fun!) loft and a finished basement with a door in the floor. A door in the floor! How cool is that? Needless to say the kids loved it. Only caveat, the private dock does get pulled in for the season (in September this year) and was a small disappointment for our sailboat, but earlier in the season its not an issue. Thanks Sam!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for reviewing our cabin by the lake. We appreciate it! Fall is one of our favorite times at the cabin as things are peaceful and beautiful. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Our dock usually gets pulled in during the fall months, but guests can still enjoy the nice lakeside deck with umbrellas & a portable fire pit. We love to have coffee while watching the sun rise and a nightcap while watching the moon rise from our cabin deck or lakeside deck. McCall is truly paradise! Hope you enjoyed our brand new, comfy sofa-sleeper with blow-up mattress. We slept on it last time we were there and were able to see the abundant stars just above our heads through one of the big cabin windows. That was a treat! Since your stay, we have also gotten new mattresses and cushions on the other couches that make into twin beds in the living room. We chose fabric with bears, deer and pine trees to add to the lodge decor. I will post new photos next time we visit the cabin. Thanks again for taking the time to write a review. Hope you can return soon to ski!
