Classic old farmhouse in a country setting in Down East Maine, on a quiet lane, just a short a short walk to Flat Bay. This large property is landscaped with perennial flowers and shrubs and includes huge lawn areas. It’s great for kids and very comfortable for a large family or couples.
The farmhouse is located about a half hour from the entrance to Acadia National Park at Schoodic Point and an hour and 20 minutes to the Acadia National park entrance near Bar Harbor. Nestled between the beautiful Narraguagus and Pleasant rivers, the house is only a short jaunt from sites like McClellan Park (9.8 mi.) with spectacular coastal views; Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge (14 mi.), with excellent hiking and bird watching. Downeast Sunrise Trail is an 85 mile multi-use recreational trail three miles from the farmhouse. Travel west and find Donnell Public Reserved Lands, 14,000 acres of remote forested land with crystal clear lakes, secluded ponds, and mountains with panoramic views; (12 mi.) Travel east and find Roque Bluffs State Park with a beautiful sandy beach, and The Bold Coast Trail (45 mi.) a 12,234-acre expanse of blueberry barrens, woodlands and peat lands with 4.5 miles of headlands, pocket coves and cobble beaches overlooking the Bay of Fundy. Also nearby are quaint coastal villages like Winter Harbor, home to many antique shops and local artists and artisans. Harrington is out of the way but truly central to the best that Maine has to offer in terms of beautiful coastline, local fishing villages and hiking in some of the most incredible natural areas of Maine.
The house can easily sleep a family of 6 and more if necessary. There is a full bathroom downstairs and a half bath upstairs. One thing to bear in mind is that the full bathroom is off the downstairs bedroom (with double bed) and the half bath is off the master bedroom upstairs. There is no bathroom in the center of the house with common access. One must go through a bedroom to get to a bathroom. No part of the house is off limits except the cellar. We request that you go in the barn only to get firewood. The fully equipped kitchen comes with tile counter top, gas range and a dishwasher, all tastefully integrated into a very old farm kitchen with ceiling high wainscoted cabinets and a beautiful antique cast iron cook stove. The living room has a Vermont Castings wood stove that you can cozy up to in cooler weather. T.V. wifi and local phone service are included as well as a good cell phone signal. Firewood and all linens are provided.
