Beautiful 5 BR Home on Private Cove in Pea Hill Creek-

Bedrooms 5
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 16)

This home has 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths; 1 kitchen, 1 laundry room; spacious well equipped game room with pool table, foosball table, an air hockey table and your own tiki bar.

Our lake home is a comfortable, Non-Smoking, two-level home with everything you will need to make your stay at Lake Gaston an enjoyable one. (Renters are responsible for providing their own linens and towels.) We have Cable TV, video and DVD players, to make your stay more enjoyable.

Inside the sliders and French doors offer wonderful views of the cove and lake. Outside, the upper deck is equipped with tables and plenty of seating when grilling out on the gas grill while viewing the wide open view of the lake. The lower slate patio offers access to the large yard with more expansive views of the lake and property.

Lake Gaston is on the North Carolina/Virginia border. The Lake is 34 miles long with 350 miles of shoreline. In addition to the main part of the Lake, there are many coves. We are located on Pea Hill Creek, one of the most treasured coves on the lake. In the middle of the main Lake, it's about 52 feet deep with the middle of the coves averaging around 16 feet deep. The water is very clean as it lays in the Lake.

A Food Lion grocery, an Ace Hardware, a Subway, and an indoor/outdoor flea market (Friday through Sunday) are all located less than ten minutes from the house. Thursday night, it’s bingo at the local fire hall. Restaurants are scattered around the lake and they range from diner style to more upscale. The closest large town is Roanoke Rapids, and is a 25 minutes drive from the house. A large mall with a Belk Store, Super Wal-Mart, movie theater, and numerous eateries are located there.

The boathouse/dock has both sun and covered decking. Tie up cleats are provided to easily secure your watercraft to the dock. You will have access to the community boat ramp for your convenience. Relax and float on a raft while the kids jump off of the dock and swim in this protected inlet that is only feet from the main cove away from any boat traffic. Enjoy taking your own kayaks or a canoe out for a peaceful, early morning nature tour around the cove. Relax and enjoy the view and peace in the backyard on a large deck overlooking the land and water after a busy day on the lake.

Perfect House for Us!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time! The house was perfect for us and our kids that ranged from 10 - 17. The bedroom configuration met our needs perfectly. The teenagers made great use of the space downstairs. The master downstairs has a queen and a twin plus a flat screen TV hung on the wall. They loved hanging out in there, playing their Xbox and watching movies. There was a second TV downstairs too, so the kids were able to watch different things. The game room was fabulous! Hours and hours of fun playing pool, ping pong, and foosball plus a roulette wheel! The house has great insulation so we had peace and quiet upstairs while they had fun downstairs. There are two living areas upstairs, which allowed us to spread out. I was able to set up my laptop and work quietly in the front living room, which had very comfortable furniture. The wifi worked great!

The kitchen was stocked very adequately! We have never stayed in a rental that had everything we needed before. Having a second refrigerator in the laundry room helped out tremendously!

It was wonderful to be back in the cove. Though the bottom of the lake was muddy, the kids enjoyed swimming there at the dock and feeding the ducks. We also caught a few blue gills while fishing off the dock.

The neighbors are FABULOUS! When we had boat trouble on our next to the last day, the neighbors across the canal were kind enough to tow us to the boat ramp. To add to our bad day, our pickup truck had a dead battery, so the neighbor beside us quickly came to our rescue. We could not have done it without them and were so grateful for their kindness. SUPER nice people!

The yard was big and provided room for us to set up our badminton net and cornhole boards.

The lake was busy on the weekends, but during the week we felt like we had the lake to ourselves. When dragging kids behind the boat we didn't have to worry about other boats getting to close to them. They also enjoyed the nearby sandbar.

We will definitely recommend this property for anyone wanting to relax and have a great time on Lake Gaston. If you have kids or if you are vacationing with a big crowd, this house is the best!

Great house for family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We were 3 families that met in the middle for a family reunion. Our group included adults and children of various ages. This house had plenty of room and never felt crowded. The yard is huge and even had a swing set. The dock was great and we rented a boat for a few days and was able to keep it right at the house. I was concerned regarding the reviews related to internet connection in the past-but happy to say that is resolved and my connectivity and cell service was fine all week. Lake Gaston area is quiet and relaxing-fishing wasnt great but did catch some. I wish i had longer to stay- and definitely plan on going back.

Great house for large families!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house in July 2015 and had a wonderful experience. The house is quite large, clean and well-maintained - the pictures don't do it justice. We were a group of 8 adults and 3 kids, and there was PLENTY of space for everyone to sleep, spread out, find some quiet time to themselves, etc. There was still plenty of sleeping space leftover as well. Also to note - we had a 16 month old with us, and the house is very babyproof (closed door to the basement, locking gates on the deck) - so no need to bring extra baby equipment. The kids loved the game room, and the adults enjoyed the large deck overlooking the water. We had our own boat for the week, and it was no problem to dock it next to the owner's boat. Said hi to the nice neighbor across the channel, and he was more than willing to help (which luckily wasn't needed for anything). Overall a fantastic experience, and we will happily rent this house again. Our only complaint would be that it seems odd to have a small dining table with only 6 chairs for such a large house - that definitely created a problem for us. There are plenty of tables and chairs on the deck, but it wasn't always possible to eat out there due to rain, etc. Also, an internet connection would definitely be nice to have as well. But overall, definitely worth 5 stars.

Amazing week!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for my family of 7. Kids had a great time with all the activities in the house and outside. Shallow swimming off the dock for the younger ones was perfect. The older kids can swim out to the bigger area of the lake.

Cant wait to go back next year.

A Nice House!

  • 5 of 5

This was a very nice house. Pics on the website are accurate. Strongly recommend this place. We had a great time! With every rental there are positives and negatives. Regardless of its shortfalls, you will be more than happy with this choice. We were! That being said, here are some things to know:

- Water depth at the dock is about four feet. Bottom is six inches of mud. Cove is fairly narrow. 25 feet from dock to dock on other side of channel. Some shallow rocks ten feet from dock to the left. So if bringing a 25 foot boat, you will need to back down the cove 75 yards or so and spin around. Not a big issue.

- Swimming in the cove off the dock was ok, but water quality was a bit clouded with mud. Adults and teenagers swam down the cove 100 yards and hung out in open water so not a big deal. Not a real good place for younger children to swim. Didn't matter for us. I loaded the younger ones in the boat and took them to the sand bar at Wobble Island, which is only about a mile or so away.

- Boat lift and jet ski lift used by owner. Had to float my skis for a week and tied the boat up to cleats on the dock. Not really easy to pull skis up on grass as their is a foot or foot and a half lip and mud up to the shoreline. Boat ramp is a couple of miles away and on the main lake. It's a pretty good ride from main lake to the house 3-4 miles by water. Public Boat ramp was excellent.

- As clearly stated on website, there is no internet. Verizon, ATT, and T-Mobile had zero to very little coverage and you will not be able to use a hot spot for any of these service providers. Sometimes we got lucky, but more times than not we had no signal or a 1x extended signal that will give you a short phone call. In order to download texts and email, I took the phones out on the boat and found coverage ;)

- Two story house with single zone cooling. The system is in great working order, but the system is not balanced. Downstairs will be a few degrees cooler than upstairs. People sleeping downstairs will need a blanket :). Was not an issue for us. We brought lots of blankets ;)

Again, this is an excellent choice for a family get together. If I can figure out how to get improved connectivity for Verizon (i.e. Signal Booster), we will probably stay here again!
