What makes this house unique

What makes this property so unique is it's magic! Sometimes I never left for days just enjoying the privacy, peace and the wildlife. You can be outside in the nude. 8 ft. fence all around camoflauged by trees and bushes. The garden faires and frogs greet you every morning; if you put out papaya or bananas on the perch, you will be visited by birds and blue morphos in the afternoon. Be mesmerized by the moonlight and starlight that embrace the master bedroom.

I would definitely recommend this house! Very comfortable, lush, clean, the owner added alot of personal touch. Location is very private, but close to everything you need. Sara, the manager was very friendly and accommodating.

European style in the Caribbean Jungle

  • 5 of 5

Patricia and VRBO made renting this home easy! Patricia was quick to respond to any questions. I must first mention that this home is not your typical Caribbean structure - solid walls, widows with glass, tile floors, a bit closed in comparatively. However, this home felt very safe for our stay - locked gate, fenced in yard, off the main road. The caretakers, Sara and Nando, were friendly and accommodating and made sure we had everything needed for a great vacation. Very nice people as are most all the locals in this charming small beachside village. Very responsive, even met me very early in the morning when I left something inside the home after we had locked the keys inside on the day of our departure. There is a phone so calling local was very easy and the wi-fi was excellent to keep in touch with our families back home. The home and yard are beautiful and everything you need to cool off and relax after a day at the beach. Humming birds visited us on the front porch each morning and we could hear the howler monkeys in the distance as well. The location is wonderful - minutes walk to Playa Negra and the infamous Reggae Bar in Cahuita (Friday night is their live music night and so worth the visit!). There are a couple of eateries within walking distance with one being a great little breakfast spot (Brigett's) where you can also rent bicycles. It is a 20 minute walk to Cahuita and the National Park (much faster by bike) which we liked as the travel back and forth brought chances to see wildlife and meet the locals. You can also arrange for taxi transport and most tours will pick up at the Reggae Bar which is only a 5 minute walk from the house. While I do prefer the more open air homes in the Caribbean, I would definitely rent Casa Stardust again in future, especially if I were to bring my husband and children over as it is more in line with what they would find cozy and comfortable.

The perfect homebase to explore this beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing 8 days in Casa Stardust. Our hosts were proactive in attending to our needs, but gave us all the privacy we could want.

We saw so many animals - toucans, howlers, frogs and a little pig-like rodent that I can't recall the name of in the garden, and just outwith the compound we saw a sloth.

We were originally hoping to find a rental closer to Puerto Viejo, but Cahuita turned out to have a much nicer vibe and is less touristy, whilst still feeling safe and having nearby local amenities. We had a car and so getting to Puerto Viejo was easy.

We'd definitely stay here again!

In the Jungle

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here for four nights and had a great time. Sara was helpful and very accommodating! Thanks Sara! It's truly a jungle house, with all kinds of creatures roaming about. Birds, howler monkeys, lizards, frogs, the occasional dog and the mysterious beast that would eat all our leftovers from the fruit smoothies we made (with local Rum too).

Renting a bike is a must if you don't have a car, and check out the reggae bar for live music. Sobre les Olas is a great spot for dinner and close by. My only issue with the house is that an air conditioner would be greatly appreciated in the bedroom. Although by the 3rd night in we started to get used to it with just the fans.

Beautiful Little House Near the Beach

  • 4 of 5

Overall I thought it was a great little house. Off the beaten track, located on a quiet street. Also very good location in terms of being close to the beach. It is though about a 20 minute walk into town. Having access to bikes would love been perfect for this place. The house is very clean and orderly. My only complaint would be that the windows didn't all open. I think that if the windows had screens it could allow for more of a breeze to go through the place, as it did get pretty hot. Overall quiet little getaway in the small sleepy town of Cahuita!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time to review my home, Laura. I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay. I really appreciate your feedback on how to improve the property -- although all but two of the windows are screened, perhaps it would be helpful to screen the remaining windows. I will ask the property manager to check on the opening of the windows, as they should all open, but maybe some are stiff. Bike rental is available at Bridgette's just around the corner, although I love the walk into town along the beach. I do hope that enjoyed the rest of your Costa Rican vacation in Puerto Viejo

Great house for our family

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this lovely house (Casa Stardust) with our 5 & 7 year old kids and we all had a great time. The house and especially the kitchen are very complete. The kids loved the lush jungle garden, that makes you feel as if you are in the middle of the jungle. They spent hours looking for the green and black frogs in the garden. The beach is a few minutes away and we had it almost to ourselves. A small river ends in the sea, so the kids loved building a dam in it together with some of the local kids. A small supermarket is nearby next to the Reggae bar that sells the best bread in town (made by an Italian lady). Cahuita is about 20 minutes away walking with the kids. We missed the hammock that was in the property photo though. Nando, the property manager, was very kind to take us to the bus station on our last day, when Cahuita was in the middle of a very heavy rain storm.
