Why Jim Heston chose Bear Creek
The location of the multible city lots enable one to enjoy both living in Petoskey and have the solitude of the country. It is a little hard to find. I provide additional directions besides the street address.
What makes this Cottage unique
This cottage is located on multiple city lots, Although in town seem .secluded. Look at the Petoskey map to see this in town hideaway. Because of the proximity to the Bear River, there is an abundance of wildlife year round. Large pine trees and other mature shade trees along with flower gardens create a park like setting.

Comfortable and Charming
The proximity to the nature trail walk to downtown Petoskey is wonderful especially because my small dog was with me. It is located in a quiet neighborhood but also has easy access to the main road so the best of both. I enjoyed the quaint cottage house and surrounding yard/garden. The inside is both comfortable and charming. I would stay here again. Thank you.
I hope these folks return. I couldn't ask for more.
Trails to Rails Bike Enthusiasts
This home is a great location for bike enthusiasts who want easy access to three bike trails in the Petoskey area. The house is very comfortable for a group of 4. If I could request one change, it would be a bit more attention paid to cleaning the floors and carpets.
Thanks for your thoughts The carpet is scheduled for replacement this fall
A quick bike ride to downtown and lakeshore, but needs cleaned
We enjoyed the location and amount of space we had, however the house has not had a thorough clean in some time. This was uncomfortable for those with allergies to dust and pets. The Little Traverse Wheelway is wonderful which you can reach via the Bear River Valley trail that is a block away from the cottage. Jim is a kind and responsive owner, and so I regret not being able to rate it higher.
Great Value an Conveniently Located
The house is well maintained and all the basics are there. If you like a firm bed, you will be very happy with the sleeping arrangements. Bring your own pillows if you like down. The kitchen is very basic, so if you want to do some cooking, bring your own spices and such. Also, the knives aren't very sharp, so you might want to bring your own. The charcoal grill works just fine for outdoor cooking and if you go in the fall, you might just get some garden fresh tomatoes or peppers and some pears off the fruit trees.
We loved that the house is right near the Bear River trail head. It's a quick walk into town and a beautiful place just to hang out. Jim is super nice and easy to work with.
This was our first time using any type of online home rental service and it was so easy! Jim greeted us at arrival and everything went smoothly from there. The house was clean, cute and met our needs for this short trip. Thank you Jim!
I couldn't have asked for better folks.
Affordable and comfy in Petoskey
Stayed for a few days. Upstairs rooms nice for sleeping -- weather was hot, but A/C window units and fans kept the house cool and comfortable. Nice, large bathrooms and upstairs washer/dryer made it easy to manage two small kids, messy from our adventures to the beach and dunes. Well-stocked kitchen. Amenities such as television, Roku device, old 33's to listen to, and movies on VHS. A bit of a blast from the past in a good way. Close to downtown and close to a trail that connects to downtown and the north central trail. Owner Jim was nice enough to ship back some items we left behind and was there to meet us on arrival to give a tour.
Good dogs are welcome smoking is not. People appreciate the convenience of being in town and having an out of town atmosphere. Lots of room makes it possible to have two gardens- including a Monarch butterfly garden, and fruit trees. There is plenty of room for boat trailer off street parking. Walk or bike the Bear River Path to downtown Petoskey where one will find wonderful restaurants and shopping. Its entrance is at the end of the block. This location not only provides easy access to; historic Petoskey's restaurants, parks, shops, near by casino, art galleries, concerts, and all the outdoor activities listed above, but a short trip (1/2 hour to an hour to historic Fort Michilimac in Mackinaw City, and Fort Mackinac on beautiful Mackinac Island. The drive across the Mackinac Bridge offers spectacular views of; The Straits of Mackinac, the Les Cheneaux Islands, Drummond Island, Bois Blanc Island and Mackinac Island all accessible by boat or ferry. If you like lighthouses, there are 21 of them within a 50 mile radius of Petoskey.
Traverse City is an hour and a half to the South.
Sleeping Bear National Lake shore sand dunes is two hours Mackinaw city and island ferry one hour distant. V.R.B.O. # 373074
