There are large, comfortable living areas, including a library for afternoon reading and napping, a gas-burning stove/fireplace, 42" HDTV, Blue Ray/DVD player, CD player, and high-speed WiFi all included. We have provided a BBQ outside, on a covered deck. We also have a lovely firepit beyond the apple tree.

And you can pack up Our Picnic Basket and take a short drive to Bay View State Park...even on misty days there's a covered picnic area and the Padilla Bay Interpretive Center is a wealth of information and fun for the whole family. Live starfish waiting to wave and wiggle for your little ones!

Speaking of little ones, do count babies and children in the guest count, as we provide so many amenities for them at Swiss Family Farmhouse, from puzzles & toys & books & movies to trikes, barn boots, and a rocking horse...They love it!

Perfect for family reunions, weekend getaways, wedding parties, baking apple pies (from our trees), picking our raspberries, taking tulip field excursions, Skagit Valley bicycling, sightseeing, and antiquing in every direction! Your group will love this farmhouse for week-long vacations, writers' retreats, church and pastoral retreats, house-hunting visits, or temporary lodging for relocated executives. Here's a recent note we got from a local who booked Swiss Family Farmhouse for the groom's family from Boulder:

Hi Scherry,

The Matthews Family enjoyed their stay at your VRBO very much. It was so comfortable, cozy and convenient.

Thank you for such a great place for guests to call their home away from home! Michele

The Swiss Family Farmhouse was built in 1909 by my husband's great-great uncle. When Dave's grandfather immigrated from Switzerland, he moved in with his uncle's family. After they moved to a farm next door, Grandpa started his family while running his dairy farm. He helped start the Darigold Co-op, as well as get the first Skagit River dikes built. Friends have said it feels like Grandma's house, with updates! Indeed, it is... come and enjoy!

You and your children will enjoy a walk west down Dunbar Rd. to view the cattle and goats and horses on neighboring farms. And going either direction on Avon-Allen Road, you will find fabulous gardens to admire!

About Scherry Cherrick

Dave's family built this lovely farmhouse in 1909 and ran a dairy farm here. His mother was born and raised here. Dave has many fond memories of Grandma & Grandpa's dairy farm. It is no longer a dairy farm, but the land is leased out for growing potatoes, or corn, or wheat. We lived here ourselves in early married years, and now are privileged to be the caretakers for it during our retirement.

Scherry Cherrick purchased this farmhouse in 2007

Why Scherry Cherrick chose Mount Vernon

We have lived all over the United States, and the Skagit Valley is special for its wide open spaces, and easy access to the mountains, lakes, rivers, and Puget Sound beaches. It's blood-pressure dropping characteristic is just perfect for R&R for the whole family. We are proud to have added solar panels to the south side of our barn in 2016!! Even in February we reduced electrical use from the grid by 52%! Over the course of one year our solar will offset 90% of our electricity needs. Hooray!

What makes this farmhouse unique

Only an hour from Seattle, 1&1/2 from Vancouver,BC, less than 10 minutes to Mount Vernon & I-5, and 10 minutes to La Conner. 150 acres of lovely farmland on two sides of the Swiss Family Farmhouse. Serenity. Peace. Relaxation. You win.

Four Generations Under One Roof

  • 5 of 5

We came over for a Wedding and stayed for a long weekend. It was my Grandmother, Mom, myself, Aunt & Uncle, Cousin & her 2 daughters. It was perfect for our family. With the main floor Bed & bath, my Grandma didn't have to go up the stairs. My 2 nieces loved the scavenger hunt of looking for photos on the wall- {listed in the Welcome packet}.

We enjoyed the large dining table at night when we played dominoes & cards, while Grandma warmed up by the fire.

The proximity to town was easy- as its right off the main street.

I highly recommend this home!

We are talking about coming back for the Spring Tulip festival and we wouldn't stay anywhere but here.

The fridge was large, the kitchen was big enough for several of us girls to make a big family breakfast.

The grounds of the home are beautiful & I wish we could have enjoyed them more thoroughly.

We drove to La Conner the morning of the wedding and enjoyed walking the town, then returned to the house where us 7 girls got dressed and ready for the wedding. There was PLENTY of space for all of us.

Again, I recommend this home. Its wonderful. We will stay again.

A Memorable Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the Swiss Family Farmhouse. We had previously spent a Christmas holiday there. We have very fond memories of each visit there with our family and our little five year old grandson. The house is very spacious and the beautiful grounds (even in the rain) gave our grandson plenty of room to run and play, not to mention getting to have an opportunity to experience a beautiful rural area of the Skagit Valley. The house was very clean, and the large bedrooms were a delight. The kitchen had many extras in terms of supples, and there were plenty of dishes, utensils etc. I really liked the coffee pot! Scherry was a wonderful hostess and I particularly appreciated her keeping in touch with us and her being very specific on instructions on how to enter the house. Our grandson had left his cap there and I had left a ladies' toiletry bag there. Scherry texted me and is mailing me both items. My daughter-in-law is thrilled that the red cap was found and is being returned. It was of a great sentimental value to her. Thank you Scherry for your hospitality and your kindness. Anita

Wonderful Weekend at Swiss Family Farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriends and I came up for our annual mah jongg retreat. The house is so spacious, the kitchen is fully stocked with just about everything you would need, the yard had great views of the bison down the road. We LOVED this place and were very sad to leave. I would not hesitate to highly recommend the Swiss Family Farmhouse for any kind of getaway. Scherry is a DOLL. So sweet and accommodating. She could not have been a better host. Don't delay, BOOK TODAY!!

Don't second guess booking your trip here!

  • 5 of 5

As the other reviews have said, the Swiss Family Farmhouse is filled with personality and charm. It was bigger and more charming than the pictures showed! The house was built in 1909 and the personality of the house felt like a family has loved and lived there for a long time. The kitchen was stocked, the appliances worked well, and the beds were comfortable. The thing my friends and I liked most was grilling dinner and sitting outside to watch the beautiful view of the sunset over the mountains and past the fields each evening.

Sherry did a phenomial job as host- she sent a detailed email before the trip to let me know how to get in, where extra towels, linens, jackets, fans etc. would be found and details about the area. Once we got to the house, there were notes around the house with more guidance to anything we could have needed- it felt as though we were staying at a close relatives house with a great host offering us anything we could have wanted. I had one question before staying and one during our stay- Sherry was quick and helpful with the responses both times. Couldn't have asked for more!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Kathryn. So pleased to know that the Swiss Family Farmhouse worked so well for your family get together and celebration. Thank you for taking such good care of the house. I love that you even left a note with the pancake mix about date of opening. Very helpful. :-) Thank you, also, to your son for his service in the Navy. I hope you all are able to stay with us again some time. Blessings, Scherry Swiss Family Farmhouse
