Awaken the senses and the soul in Hawaii at The Blue Roof. This private estate style property is the quintessential quiet get way. It's a true zen retreat, blessed by a 180 degree view of the Pacific, stretched away from the combustion of mainland life. If you're looking for that transformative Hawaiian escape, perhaps a well deserved chance to recharge, consider The Blue Roof.
Property has three structures- Main House, Ohana, Utility Barn, with tropical landscaping around.
Outdoors- anticipate an unmatched view, green flash sunsets, starry starry nights, Mauna Loa breezes, multiple private lanais, patio, pool, hot tub, lava rock shower, gas bar-b-que, various wildlife (bring binoculars), tropical garden, rock wall trimmed yard, coffee farm upslope.
Indoors- expect spacious living quarters, vaulted ceilings, breezy french doors, sliding doors, screens all around. All upper level flooring hand carved koa wood. No carpet. Water solar heated. No need for raspy climate control system as the 800 ft property elevation and open air style doors/widows allow clean ocean and mountain circulation around the clock, especially at night which can get refreshingly chilly during winter months when Mauna Loa is snow capped. Perfection.
Main House Ground Level- Clay tile floors through out. Large master suite has canopy bed and large full bath. The entire master has three different openings-house, pool and lava cave shower.
Kitchen- custom granite counters, high end Subzero and Wolf brands, separate wine fridge, pantry and variety of cooking/baking tools.
Living Room- bright great room style, 30 foot ceilings, hand stacked lava rock fireplace-mantel, 10 chair woodcraft dining table, L sofa, wifi, large screen flat TV with basic dish.
Main House Upstairs- three separate bedrooms, each sleeps two comfortably. A full bath has louvered door separating the his and her sinks from toilet and shower tub. Upstairs balcony leads outdoors to wicker furnished lanai (sleep out there if you like).
Ohana- separate two story building is new addition to property. Upstairs includes large vaulted bed room with one king and two twins, two overhang balconies looking upslope, walk in closet. There's a large bathroom with tiled stand up glass door shower and basin sink. Hall leads to sliding doors that open to outdoor private lanai overlooking ocean.
Ohana Ground Level- large concrete floor multipurpose room- large teak wood doors both barn and sliding kind open up the space. Space commonly used for exercise and stretching as yoga mats and light exercise equipment provided.
Note: Utility Barn and part of lower Ohana remain not accessible to renters as they simply house vital water catchment system, pumps, electrical boxes, landscaping equipment, tools, etc per owner.
The Blue Roof has the power to turn mere occupants into epic story tellers. This has been our family vacation home for more than 8 years and it's our Kuleana to keep the stories scrolling. So when not here ourselves, let our home be your home. Just be ready to tell your own stories about your stay in Hawaii at the Blue Roof.
It's all about the view, the dead quiet location, and the custom craftsmanship applied throughout this spacious retreat.
We just returned from a vacation at the Blue Roof house and had a wonderful time. The location is remote and private, the home is beautifully appointed, and the view can't be beat. We enjoyed cooking in the large well appointed kitchen and dining with our friends in the spacious dining room. We especially enjoyed having coffee each morning overlooking the ocean and cocktails each evening while enjoying stunning sunsets. It was a great place to enjoy with our friends as each room is equipped with a queen or king sized bed so no couple had to "slum it" in twin beds. We'd definitely recommend it!
This house has everything! From the breathtaking views of the Pacific, to the spacious and upgraded beautiful home, to the remote and serene location - it was hard to leave and explore the island! My family came together to celebrate my parents' 45th wedding anniversary, and the backyard was the perfect place for them to renew their vows and their love for one another! When we were able to pull ourselves away, there were beaches and towns nearby. The icing on the cake were the daily whale sightings, the dolphins, wild goats, and the most gorgeous sunsets I have every seen. The "Blue Roof House" won't disappoint!
We just returned from an amazing vacation at "The Blue Roof". An amazing home, in amazing surroundings this vacation home is a must see!! Hearing for whales in the morning and enjoying the most amazing sunsets at night, this house has something for everyone. A short drive away from the home is Hookena beach. Undoubtly one of the most amazing beach experiences ever. Whether swimming with dolphins, or exploring coral reefs this will be a beach day you will never forget. We highly recommend "The Blue Roof". This beautiful house was a wonderful place for our family to come together and celebrate the holidays and a special anniversary for us. Everything was as it was pictured and more. Even though it was some distance from many activities, one does need a car, but it was not a hardship to drive to them . After sight-seeing, snorkeling, swimming, etc., it was the perfect site to prepare a meal, relax in the pool/Jacuzzi, star gaze and enjoy each other's company and the quietness of the area. The sunsets and the views are breathtaking. The Farmer's Market at The Greenwell Botanical Center was a great place to buy local produce and an event in and of itself. We definitely would recommend this house for families and have done so already.
This house was fabulous for a family get together. The views were amazing and sitting in the jacuzzi at night looking at the moon was magical. The kitchen was excellent for communal cooking and very well stocked. Everything met or exceeded our expectations, it was even more spacious and comfortable than displayed in the pictures.
A fabulous place to stay. All 13 of us loved it. Wonderful swimming and snorkeling at Hookena, Honaunau and Kealakekua. AND be sure to see Manta rays at night.
The Big Island is an outdoor adventure destination. There are many thrilling things to do here you cannot do anywhere else on the planet. And indeed there's more than enough operators advertising tours. A good option is using an activity agent to assist in finding and scheduling outdoor adventures. It's the least time consuming way to select activities as opposed to calling up a bunch of companies one by one, search availability, et cetera. I recommend contacting My Tour Hawaii, a local and very knowledgeable company run by an inter-island pilot/captain who started the service to better answer the numerous questions posed to him by his passengers concerning where to go-what to do. Air Tours, volcano tours, reef snorkeling, dolphin swims, and charter boats top the list. The message here is whether this is the first or last time you visit the Big Island at some point get out and activate. Mahalos.
