About the property

Private, set on over an acre, comes complete w/linens, spices, etc. firewood, wifi

This private year-round home on Norway Lake is perfect if you love nature and enjoy outdoor activities.

Our most common guests consist of multi-generational or family reunions who are meeting from various distant locations. We DO NOT ALLOW PETS because of allergies and it is NOT appropriate for TODDLERS or YOUNGER. Everything is within reach for handicap accessibility.

There's something for everyone. Weekend guests are usually those involved in a wedding at Granite Ridge Estate, or girls/guys weekend, heading to the nearby Oxford Casino, or Speedway.

• SPARKLING CLEAN with simple decor and uncluttered living on three levels.

A place you walk into and say WOW! The craftsmanship is extraordinary!! "So much better than the pictures"

• The kitchen has loads of extras, including pizza dough supplies, spices and some sundries. A full pantry of cooking appliances. Linens and beach towels included.

• We have over an acre of land with 240' of water frontage with just a short walk to the town center.

• About 45 minutes to the ocean and Portland, DownEaster Train, but far enough to be alone and at peace with nature. No city noises; no ringing phones-- unless it’s yours. You can open up the walls of French doors and feel like you’re living outside, but without the bugs. You can turn on the radio, TV with cable, or access the WIFI to check your emails, but still hear the peepers and the loons. You can cook everything in the wood fired pizza oven, over the fire pit, use the convection/microwave, or regular oven.

• Grill inside the pizza oven, out on the gas grill, or over the fire.

• We have deep water access, if you bring your own motor boat or rent from one of the local marinas. White’s Marina directly across the lake offers boat rentals & supplies gas.

The public beach is located near Lake Store and boat launch, 2 miles away. We do not have a beach. We have a small shaded sandy section for small children & canoe entry. This home is a wonderful place for an adult retreat, casino or girls/guys weekend, a vacation spot for those who enjoy different activities,

• A perfect home for multi-generational family gatherings, with a first floor bedroom and gradual sloping grade to the dock. It's centrally located for area activities.

Here are our favorite things about Maine: The sunset from the dock and going across the lake to Boomers for lunch via boat, float, skis, ice skates, or snowmobile. Sitting under the porch during a rain storm or feeding the tamed chipmunks. We are at one with nature, but so close to civilization; we see otters, deer, lunar moths and the green frogs that stick to our windows, but could shop at major grocery stores right down the street.

We listen to the loons and the peepers on a warm summer night but could go to the casino, county fair, or drive-in movie instead. We enjoy clam bakes and Lobster meals over the bon-fire, followed with marshmallow roasting and baked apples. We love the view of the hemlocks covered in snow and a visit to the Victorian Poland House and wonder at Steve’s talent for decorating every inch, or walking downtown early morning to pick up the paper and a coffee and fresh pastry at the local bakery, or lounging on a comfy couch at the Nomad Cafe. Shopping at the indoor yard-sale, Pa’s Trading Post, antiquing or enjoy one of the many antique auctions. There's live entertainment locally at the Pub's and restaurants and fine dining with reservations suggested.

Norway hosts many of the local events, Triathlon, arts festival, fishing derby, snowmobile festival...

• Stepfalls is one of our favorite hikes because you climb up the waterfall. It’s only about 35 minutes from the house. You could even bring along our gold pan, or stop to mine for tourmaline on the way home.

• The kids/adults love to spend the day water tubing/fishing, or sledding/tubing/skiing, followed by a pizza party where everyone makes their own favorite pizza.

• There’s plenty to do at night: watch a movie, play board games, sing to karaoke -4 microphones, bumper pool, ping pong, or head up town to local shops that offer knitting, beading and bingo.

• We’re close to several golf courses: Norway, Poland Springs & Sunday River and have direct access from the house to the snowmobile, ATV and cross country ski trails. (not publicly advertised) There’s great skiing and snow tubing, at many local resorts. During the winter (snow permitting) we usually have a sledding hill from the back porch down to the lake. (at your own risk, we have plenty of sleds) There is also a skating park in Norway, we have assorted skates and cross-country skis that you're welcome to use at your own risk.

This art loving community has down to earth living with friendly people who smile when you say hello. We build huge memories here with friends and family. That’s why we love it. We think you’ll love it, too!

About Linda Corapi

I'm a Mother of two grown children, one an artist and another a biologist. I live in Norway, most of the time and travel back and forth to MA for work. My Daughter and I share a family business, Gardens Galore: a Gallery, Gift Store in Woburn, MA & and I am an active Real Estate Agent for RE/MAX Andrew Realty Services which is just north of Boston.

I'm a member of many organizations including the Maine Iris society which holds their annual shows and meeting less than 30 minutes away in Auburn, ME.

I have a busy schedule and no intention of retiring anytime soon. My heart is here in Maine, but my wallet is in MA.

Finally, it looks like downtown Norway could support a shop like Gardens Galore, but unfortunately space isn't available. It's wonderful to see a busy downtown center. Norway looks like the picture perfect ski town and eventually I'll be a part of it.

I have a few hobbies, sewing, beading and creating leaded glass art.

My family is spread throughout the country, Oregon, Colorado, North Dakota, Virginia, MA and Maine. We get together once or twice a year, for a celebration, or family reunion.

Linda Corapi purchased this house in 2003

Why Linda Corapi chose Norway

My family and I helped to build our dream home, with Joe Healey, a craftsman from Bridgton Maine, owner of Old Time Timber Framing. The kids and I lived in a tent during the summer with a solar shower and portable facilities. My sister's lake house is only 20 minutes away, so if we needed a break it was easy. My Brother's in-laws live in Fryeburg, so he's close, too. We all enjoy each others company and have similar interests so it just made sense to build a home here. Luckily I have a flexible schedule so I'm able to spend time here and in MA working remotely.

When I was moving from my primary home to Maine, I happened to find a box of old cookbooks from my Grandmother. I knew her as living in MA, she passed away when I was 16 and I was too young to ask her about her history. I was shocked to see a cookbook from Norway Congregational Church but even more so when I saw her name on the label. Looks like I've come back to my roots.

My Father loved to fish and when I was a child we rented cottages across the country. We never worried about seat belts and the station wagon had a folding seat way in the back. So we fit 6-7 kids, Mom, Dad, Nana, my aunt and the dog. Along the way we'd stop for lunch and if there was water Dad was fishing. I can vividly remember the raccoon raiding our campsite and Dad's evening catch from the bucket.

The first summer this house was built, my son and his school friend took the canoe out fishing. They were about 9. They were determined to try under the dock at the marina. Next thing I know I see them coming back in a hurry creating a wake behind the canoe. It wasn't speed that created the wake it was the big large mouth bass they couldn't take off the hook. I'd say maybe 6 lbs, (by their standards)nice and fat anyway. I learned to turn the barb down on the hook after that. It's too bad my Father wasn't around to see this home and that fish. He would be so proud.

What makes this house unique

We never expected to love the pizza oven as much as we do. We hardly ever use the regular oven. It's the center of every party. I treat myself to grilled fish, steak and small little baked dishes. My Son loves to cook ribs with his special barbecue sauce and my Daughter has mastered my Brother's pizza dough recipe. We've made the entire Thanksgiving dinner in the one oven. Including the pies. It stays hot for hours. You can use all the leftover pizza toppings for quiche the next morning and usually it just takes a small fire to bring it back up to 375, if it's not hot enough. One year I hosted my Nephews wedding party and served 22 pizzas and a few calzones.

The first winter we were here it snowed almost every day. (this year has been about the same) We love it. We live on a private road so I can cross- country ski on the trails in our neighborhood without worrying about snowmobiles being on the same route. The snowmobile trail goes down our road and across the street, or across the lake depending on the direction you're headed. You can access route 89 a major snowmobile route in the state. It's breathtaking to see the forest covered in snow, especially riding through a pine grove, or crossing a bridge in the swamp on a warm winter day, or the view from the hill on the golf course that overlooks the lake. Sometimes the snow is so deep it almost touches the porch roof.

During the summer when the kids were young all I did was tow them on the big water tube. Luckily we don't have a lot of boating traffic and there's enough room for everyone to have their own space.

As far as nature is concerned: the last couple of years we've seen eagles nesting and a family of otters moved in near the dock. The loons usually nest somewhere near our house, and the occasional Great Blue Herring will perch near the water. We have a range of woodpeckers, from Pileated to Flickers. Our feeders keep the finches, nuthatches and chickadees happy

Guestbook comments from the owner

For our annual family vacation, we stayed at a beautiful log house in Norway, Maine. Our immediate family consists of my husband and myself, three daughters, two spouses and three grandchildren. The house was located on a beautiful part of the lake while being located within very close walking distance of downtown Norway.

The house is lovely and furnished with any conceivable appliance, linen, toiletry, as well as an over abundance of spices and staples. All we needed to complete our vacation was our bathing suits and meat and vegetables to prepare meals.

The lot gently slopes to the water where the whole family enjoyed the nice deck, deck chairs, kayak, canoe and 8-man float. We did not use the fishing gear because the children were too busy with water activities.

The large dining area is where we usually congregated to eat and play games. (There was every game you could possibly imagine.). We never once turned on the large flat-screen tv or used the gaming videos or movies. Everyone enjoyed the ping pong table and darts in the basement.

Through no fault of Linda's and not to take away from our total experience, we really needed one more bedroom and bathroom-although, it worked for us because there were at least three inflatable mattresses.

Our family all gave this years vacation experience a strong five-star rating.

Perfect lake house getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house is even better than advertised. Right off of the lake, very clean, nice downstairs kitchen and living area, and the pizza oven is a special bonus. Bedrooms are perfectly adequate, and bathrooms and showers are all nice. Linda the owner is very responsive and trustworthy. Would definitely stay again!

Beautiful home & lovely area

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in Norway! There is so much to love about this home. Expansive log home that is well stocked for the chef. Of unique note is the pizza oven which we greatly enjoyed using!

The beds are very comfortable and lots of room to spread out with two living areas & basement game room. The basement area is not fully finished so we didn’t use it for sleeping but had fun playing ping pong & darts. We are a huge game family & it’s clear the owners are too! Lots of choices so save room packing games as they have plenty.

We played a game after dinner each night at the large (seating for 10) kitchen table.

The outside is nice and clear to play lawn games too & we enjoyed using the grill and the fire pit.

We were worried about lake but those worries were quickly gone when we saw the large dock (plenty of room for multiple chairs) and water was shallow but clear. We used a variety of floats and swam/fished/kayaked every day from the dock.

We also walked every morning into town (a quick walk) and picked up supplies, strolled, & went to the Norway Brewery.

We’re appreciative of the care the owners took in communication, cleanliness of home, & opening up their doors to their beautiful vacation home.

A true treasure and clearly a five star vacation rental. We’ve rented a lake home for 16 years in a row and this is one of our favorites.

Relaxing with a nice lake view

  • 4 of 5

The house is very nice and has everything you need. The pizza oven makes for a fun night. The views of the lake are beautiful! I wouldn’t plan on spending your week swimming in the lake, a bit grassy and muddy. The house is at the end of the lake and not situated on the main lake. This is only important if you want to rent a pontoon boat. There is a very low bridge you need to pass under if you want to access the main lake. We visited Sebago Lake (amazing and highly recommended for swimming), Portland and Kennebunkport, all within an easy drive.

Linda is extremely easy to contact and was amazingly informative through our rental process. Great rental experience.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying. I'm glad you had a chance to use the pizza oven. It's wonderful for slow cooked dinners while you're out. Norway lake is a glacial kettle hole which is spring fed, only 5 miles long, stocked with fish and good water quality. It's one of the quiet lakes in the area that allows motorboats and has conveniences for them: gas, Boomers pub, the lake store with live bait, lobster and home baked treats. I believe the deepest section is 40 feet, but there are shallow areas throughout the lake. There are two marina's on the lake- one directly across from our dock and the main supplier for boat-gas. They rent pontoon boats. The other marina rents kayaks and jet-skis. We provide two kayaks, two canoes, floats and you're welcome to use the water skis, or 2 seat tube-at your own risk. My family and I grew up renting every summer on the lakes in the area, so when we bought we had a check list of what was important for our dream home: As a year round home it has reliable winter access so we can get to and from work. It's walking distance to a quaint busy town center, has privacy between homes and no long camp road, motor boat access, x-country skiing and snowmobile trails only steps away from the front door. We wanted our kids to be able to go out fishing, or across the lake for lunch, alone, without the concern of heavy boat traffic, or large waves. It's actually better then we had hoped because we can pull the water tube without another boat bothering us. The culvert under the road does have a height restriction. We have an 18' Stingray and have never had an issue and guests have rented pontoons and speedboats without an issue. The advantage to renting from a marina on the lake is that boat is in the water ready to go. There are other local marinas that will deliver a speed boat for the water toys. Call the marina if you have concerns. The water level is 4-5' deep at the end of the dock. We like to float and try to avoid the bottom, but the lake has clear water. We rake the leaves away in the spring on the shoreline for kids and canoe entry. There is a small sandy area. Norway lake does have a public beach, with bath house, picnic area, walking trails and only a short walk to the Lake Store. We're on the quiet side with access to the deeper section of the same lake. We can walk to town, send the kids to the store, or run out for conveniences without being gone long. I hope this helps. Thank you for the review. Linda
