About the Property
Three bedroom ocean front cottage on the Avalon in Newfoundland
A nice authentic saltbox house on the East Coast Trail in the outport of Bauline East. We are on the water.
If you are worried about the price being reasonable, please don't be, it goes with our idea that people should bring prices down rather than take them up. We could charge more, but we don't, we want to rent at a price which we would want to rent at but with the quality that we would also want. We do not go for this overprice motel mentality.
All the amenities of a home except NO CABLE TV, but has DVD/BLURAY/NETFLIX and WiFi INTERNET in house. The house is apart of a mini compound. Across from a lake, on a creek with ocean out front. The lake across the street is where we go swimming. From our local wharf there is whale watching tours that also tour the bird island reserves off the coast. Bauline is the road's end where the head of the trail leads into La Manche Provincial Park. Can do bonfires on the beach. Kayaking also available.
3 Bedrooms plus one sleeping area in Living Room. All cotton sheet and down covers. One full bathroom. Large porch around ocean side of house with hammocks. Outdoor shower for fun on hot days.
Full kitchen with all the amenities - electric stove. Heat both electric and furnace.
Comfortable for hikers, loungers, and sports people. Rustically fun and comfortable.
Bauline East is an outport settled about 150 years ago. Very few outsiders here. A fishing village with all the seasonal activity. Whales and bird islands off shore. Restaurants within 15 minutes. Ferryland down the coast. Cape Race, the last piece of land is 200 miles from where the Titanic sank.
If you insist on a doorman we can get you one for an extra cost no guarantees on the quality of their service.
50 minutes from St. John's and 25 minutes from Ferryland.
A full cottage with porch. Shared BBQ. The property is more like a compound with four structures. The cottage is the Main House, with a large front yard, a water side porch with tables, sofa, hammocks, access to the beach, . Parking is off the street.
Interaction with Guests
This depends on whether we are onsite or not. We travel quite a bit so we might not be there when you are. If we are there we are staying in one of the other cabins.
It is an outport community. There are only about 18 houses. People are friendly and the wharf is a working wharf so there is activity there most of the time, it gives you a sense of place.
No public transport, but there is a multi person taxi service that takes people to town or the airport for @$20 / person. It is very limited though - once in the early morning going to town and once in the evening coming back from town. To get rides, people are friendly or you need your own car. We might be able to help if we are around.
Other Things to Note
The weather is all over the place, I have been in the most miserable weather in Newfoundland with six weeks of bad weather during the summer, but then again while the rest of the world was suffering from cold and misery, Newfoundland was brilliant and beautiful. You never know.

Year Purchased: 2000
About: George and Chabela have travelled extensively. Finding themselves living in Toronto in 2000 and missing the wilderness of Wyoming (from which they came), happened to visit a CFA friend in Witless Bay and immediately bought this property. That was 16 summers ago and we have come here every summer since then. Our kids have enjoyed summers here, and they grew to be adults then we had empty space, which needed to be filled. That is why we have beds to fill.
Why Burnt Cove, NL, Canada:
Newfoundland offers majestic wilderness, mostly unspoiled. Truthful and real people with a great sense of humour. Clean air, incredible sites. This property is on the water, but better yet was protected by a harbour, and not exposed to damaging winds. Our community is small and therefore we know most of the people here. The cool thing is that there is a wharf and it gets busy there when there is fishing or good weather, so you can see a working community work.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
While feeling away from everything, you are still 50 minutes from St. John's.
