About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

The Skagit river in the front yard, this house is an ideal home base from which to explore the area or just stay put. You can take a day hiking trip in majestic mountains and come 'home' to sleep in a comfy bed instead of a tent! There are several dams to visit nearby and the historic town of Concrete is fun to explore and nearby. This is also the perfect place to just relax on the deck enjoying a lovely view of the Skagit River or roast marshmallows at the fire pit next to the river. The large sandy beach at the community park is within walking distance and a must see with beautiful vistas. Bring your camera and your fishing pole! Come in the winter to see the eagles or in the summer to explore the North Cascades!

About Robin Mallory

I have lived in the Pacific Northwest all of my life and love to kayak, hike and photograph nature.

Robin Mallory purchased this cottage in 1982

Why Robin Mallory chose Northwest & Islands

This is such a peaceful place and the river is beautiful. Easy access to the North Cascades National Park where beauty and hiking opportunities abound.

What makes this cottage unique

The nearby Community beach is easy to walk to. The road in the community are flat and great for a jog in the morning. I love to sip my coffee from the deck and watch the river.

Riverfront Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay at this comfortable cabin in a quiet area fronting the Skagit River. The cabin has all the modern conveniences one needs to make a stay in the Cascades enjoyable.

We were out hiking and exploring each day and we appreciated coming back each night to rest and rejuvenate in this peaceful setting.

Loved our stay,

B & K

Exactly what we wanted

  • 5 of 5

This little cottage was clean, well- and thoughtfully stocked, and beautifully sited. We needed a place to chill, shower and wash clothes between camping gigs, and this house met our needs perfectly.

Relaxing Holiday Weekend

  • 4 of 5

The property is as described and the photos do a good job of giving you an idea of what you're getting.

Pros:

- Relatively quiet

- Great view of the water from the back deck or the back yard

- Furnished with just about everything you need

- Quick access to the dining options in town

- Pet friendly

- Wifi worked well

- Check in/out with key box was really easy and convenient

- Nice selection of DVDs and board games

Cons:

- Tiny, older model TV; I'm 8.5 months pregnant so I did a lot of R&R during my stay, but I suspect most visitors aren't there for the TV. But, it would be a nice upgrade to get a flat screen in the living room.

- Yard isn't totally fenced, which is well documented in the details of the rental before you go. It would be a great bonus of a pet-friendly property to be able to let your dog play off-leash, but we just brought a 40' leash for our dog to run around on and it worked fine.

Cozy little cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I really enjoyed our time in concrete. Building an evening fire in front of the river was probably my favorite moment. Make sure you explore the North Cascade trails near Diablo lake. The scenery is beautiful.

Last minute choice that turned out so well!

  • 5 of 5

We found the Skagit Waterfront Cottage to be so well-thought-out. We are VRBO-ers and we have seen so many sorts of VRBOs. The best are those where the owners have clearly planned for every eventuality and Robin has certainly done that. How many times have I said, "Why is there NEVER a knife sharpener in a place where, clearly, the knives get a real workout?" Here, there is a knife sharpener. And I am always complaining about the lack of a tea kettle. Here there is a tea kettle as well...and everything else that you will need tor a pleasant and stress-free stay. Really. Everything else? Keurig? Check. Toaster? Check. Blender? Check. Efficient microwave? Check. Clean and comfortable beds? Check? Clean and comfortable everything? Check. Ample towels, wash cloths, hand towels? Check. Check. Check. A washer and dryer? Check. Very strong water pressure? (Always a Plus!) Check! There is a little desk for your computer. There is Cable TV - for those who watch TV. A DVD player for those who watch DVDs. Even a great little selection of DVDs to choose from...Young Frankenstein, anyone? Or...a couple of Monty Python's - Life of Brian and Meaning of Life - there are over 50 DVDs... The proximity to the river - a stone's throw away - was exciting due to the rain we were having. Robin said the river is lowered at the dams when it needs to be and we saw that happen...and then it returned to its normal level. There is even a very nice gate that allows one onto the property. The deck is enclosed and can only be reached from inside the house. It's a clean, lovely, two-bedroom VRBO as near as one could hope for to North Cascades National Park. We had some great meals here as well: Miga Asian Cuisine - for some of the Best Korean Food - they serve all sorts of other stuff as well - and surprise, surprise - Annie's Pizza served the best cheese pizza I have had in decades. Food this good is almost impossible to find in the hinterlands and never possible near a National Park. And finally 5B's Bakery in Concrete is a terrific destination restaurant...please do not miss it.

Map

The North Cascades Highway is considered the most scenic highway in Washington State and makes a lovely day trip from the Mallory Cottage. Historic Concrete WA is just 6 miles away and a walking map of this charming town is provided. Mt. Baker and Baker Lake as well as Lake Shannon are nearby as well. Many hiking opportunities nearby and hiking books are provided. The North Cascades National Park visitor's center is 33 miles away. When you visit, be sure to take the short boardwalk trail for an outstanding view. In the winter, eagle watching is very popular up river. There is a wildlife viewing area where Elk are seen regularly on Highway 20..
