Update May 2018: Scottland sustained minimal damage despite Irma's best efforts...repairs and improvements were made before the power was even restored, Scottland honestly looks better than ever and guests are booking up quickly!
Surrounded by lush gardens, and overlooking Smugglers Cove, Scottland is the most beautiful and romantic Mediterranean style villa in Tortola. Truly tucked away down a 1/2 mile driveway, this villa could not be more private and peaceful. This villa is designed to be a 'get-away-from-it-all'....you are free to laze by the pool, swing in the hammock, walk down to the beach or go exploring in your 4X4!
Scottland is a gorgeous two-storey villa surrounded by mature planting including vibrant bougainvillea which have all grown back post-Irma. The villa is located in a very peaceful area of the island, and is just a 15 minute walk – or a short drive – from the nearest beach at idyllic Smuggler's Cove with it's excellent swimming and snorkeling.
Accommodation on the lower floor consists of a comfortable and welcoming living room decorated with local prints and artifacts giving off a relaxing vibe. Generous glazed doors on two sides of the living room let in plenty of light, and most people leave them open all the time – one to the patio and pool and one to the unobstructed ocean views, which are simply magnificent. The villa’s substantial outdoor space provides a number of areas for relaxing poolside to top up your tan or lounging in the shade, as well as a cool shaded alfresco dining area. The built-in gas BBQ is to the rear of the patio. Adjacent to the living room through a wide, open doorway is the villa's well-equipped country-style kitchen.
A curved staircase leads up to the comfortably furnished and welcoming master bedroom suite, with it's vaulted ceiling and romantic four-poster bed. This room has an en suite bathroom with a good-size natural stone shower and pretty hand-painted washbasin. French doors open wide to a small balcony and views of the ocean and outlying islands of Jost van Dyke and Sandy Cay – among several others. To the rear of the master bedroom is a private tiled courtyard and outdoor shower and a garden path leading to a pavilion-style gazebo where a gently swaying double hammock awaits. The second bedroom, a somewhat smaller room with a queen-size bed and small adjacent half-bath, is accessed by a couple of steps from the rear of the kitchen, it has AC and French doors out to the beautiful ocean views. Do note that the second bedroom has only an outdoor shower that is not private. Although Scottland has 2 bedrooms, the villa is usually rented by one couple or a couple with children (the 2nd bedroom is not really equal to the first if renting to 2 couples).
In case you need to escape this idyllic bliss there is wifi for your convenience and a SmartTV in the master for all you Netflix addicts (and a DVD player and collection of movies for you romantics!)

As managers of Scottland, we work directly for the villa owners and live on Tortola full time, just about a mile from Scottland in fact! (Don't worry - we know you want your privacy, we are available when you need us but we won't be disturbing you otherwise). We know the villas that we manage inside out; we can offer assistance with car rental, provisioning and anything else you might need; and we will be here to show you around the villa. We look forward to meeting you!

The picture does not even do this villa justice. It is even more amazing in person. In fact , we booked a return trip in Feb. It is impeccably maintained, and anything you need is just a text away. The beach is just a 3 minute drive down the hill, tucked away in Smugglers Cove and is an awesome little snorkeling spot. Although you won't ever want to leave the villa. The whole villa opens up and you are surrounded by the most beautiful views , from anywhere you are in the house. The kitchen is is very well equipped and opens up to a beautiful patio, if you like to cook, you won't find a more beautiful spot for dinner, anywhere. Getting to the villa is a bit of challenge, so make sure you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. But once you get to it , it is heavenly. It is very private, quiet and tucked away.
A must stay!
Beautiful well appointed home with wonderful
Views. We wouldn't want to stay anyplace else.
WE LOVED IT!
My husband and I, along with our two teenage daughters, enjoyed a week at Scottland for our spring break. The house was wonderful, views never got old, and we never wanted to leave. We loved cooking on the grill, swimming in the pool, having coffee overlooking the ocean every morning, and visiting Smuggler's Cove daily. A 4x4 is a must, but the secluded location was worth it. Close to West End for outings and an easy drive to other beaches too! Sam and Sharlene were wonderful and responsive to my many questions and made the whole process go very smoothly! We will be back, and would highly recommend this property!
Paradise - even better than advertised...
My wife and I were looking for a self-catering property on Tortola and randomly stumbled on this property. We have a 10 month old so were looking for a place with amenities on site. The property itself is gorgeous -- although not a massive villa (which was not needed for our group), every bit of space is used very sensibly and the entertaining area (which is basically the entire property) is amazing. Honestly, we did not want to leave as the view combined with the pool and entertaining area, made everything else pale in comparison. Having Smuggler's Cove (which is beautiful and a 10 min walk away) right below as well as the Soper's Hole (markets, restaurants etc) a short drive from the villa were also fantastic for when we wanted to get out of the villa. A 4x4 SUV is almost a must for the driveway, but from our experience, a rental car/SUV is important for those looking to see the island generally (think steep hills!).
In terms of the booking process, having never been to the BVI before, we needed a bit of handholding. Sam and Sharlene were utterly fantastic. Outside of giving us much needed advice about the area, what we would need, insider tips about things to see etc, they arranged our rental car and made the entire booking process and stay hassle free. Sam was pretty much available every day and answered all our questions very quickly.
We cannot wait to head back!
Romantic, Secluded, Paradise!
As business owners we work all the time so were looking for a place to get away from it all. Scottland was perfect! It is private, well appointed, comfortable, and with amazing views. We loved everything from the master suite, kitchen, pool and the patio. We had a few afternoon showers which allowed us to relax on the veranda watching the rain over the islands while listening to music and reading books. Absolute Paradise! We've looked for other similar properties in the Caribbean without success - nothing offers both the privacy and the comfort. We will be back!
Gorgeous Views, Secluded, Everything You Need!
Our family of 4 had a fantastic stay at Scottland in August 2016. The house was remote enough to feel like we were really getting away from it all, yet close enough to explore Tortola's West End. The pool area was our favorite. We enjoyed using the fully-stocked kitchen to cook meals with the kids and enjoy the sunset views. The room set-up is best suited for older kids, since the rooms are separated, but it was great to have their own space. I would definitely recommend a 4x4 car to drive the roads in the West End, but if you have one, it's fun to explore. We explored the island and found some remote beaches that were off the beaten path - those were our favorites. The property managers were fantastic - before, during and after our stay.
updated May 2018: People enjoy Scottland and Smugglers Cove for it's privacy and laid back, romantic vibe...the tree-lined, rugged roads of Belmont and Smuggler's Cove are great for hiking or running and there are several loops you can take depending on how energetic you are feeling. Nigel's beach bar is the most action you will see at this outpost...the perfect spot for a refreshing cocktail or beer. Unfortunately Soper's Hole and West End ferry dock suffered horribly from Irma and are not yet rebuilt...but the restaurants we do have up and running are excellent. Da Coal Pot on the waterfront in Carrot Bay offers a large menu including many local dishes like conch fritters, coconut shrimp and rotis, along with steaks, pasta and more traditional fare. Da Best Cup at Soper's Hole serves up a great breakfast menu and Pussers Landing offers a limited menu of pizzas, wings, salad, burgers etc. Sebastians, the Sugar Mill and Banankeet to re-open soon. Stoutt's Lookout at the top of Windy Hill (between Carrot bay and Cane Garden bay) is not to be missed for its relaxed vibe and fab views. Cane Garden Bay has Myetts, Rymers and Paradise Club offering drinks and varied menus. Nanny Cay and Road Town offer many more dining options that we list on our website and can direct you to when we greet you. For excursions take a private motor charter with Captain Debs on Irie for a personal tour of your new favorite spots. Or a catamaran daysail aboard Kuralu to blow the cobwebs off while enjoying Natures Little Secrets which are all still here waiting to be rediscovered by you.....
